@@Kofhiliphus Yeah i thought this canto did a decent job of adapting the book's themes, though im still of the mind that it did miss out on capitalizing on cool side characters which the book was really good about since it was a series of vignettes and how important their stories are when contrasted against the insane quest of Don Quixote. This isnt to disparage how PJM adapted the book, though OG Don discovering a lust for life thanks to a human errs too close to Castlevania Dracula for my liking, instead of him self-initiating with his books (those this is used for Our Don when she was trapped in the lighthouse so it does get a pass)

The issue with Limbus Company Dulcinea is that the character she was based on doesn’t exist. Book Dulcinea was a perfect woman made up by Don Quixote to do heroics in the name of. Limbus Company at least tried an interesting direction, have their version of Dulcinea fall into bitterness at being a doll to admire. But there was only so much Limbus Company could do when pulling from a non-character like book Dulcinea.

@@Mikairium Not quite, the idea of Dulcinea del Toboso existed already in Don Quijote's head before he even saw Aldonza, which is who later Sancho says is Dulcinea, to trick Don Quijote into the idea that some enchanter's /mages had transformed Dulcinea into a farmhand woman. Dulcinea per se has never existed as a physical character, it's just Don Quijote's imagination, cause every knight must have a damsel to protect (at least in Novelas de Caballerías, which is the og genre of of these kinds of novels in Spain).

Hemobars managed to sate their physical needs but they simply cannot experience true joy without human blood straight from the vein. Which, unfortunately, also will turn the human if they aren't outright killed by it. Which is of course why you can never have dulcinia or the barber enact a standard vampire love story, beyond the fact I called dibs. We saw a little bit of this in the Warp Train event, where casseti was able to kill people despite the warp train's normal immortality glitch. They don't just need food, they need the emotions that make you human.

That way there's still the satisfaction from feeding on a body with emotions. I'm aware higher kindred turn you into one faster, but there might be hope as long as it's not immediate. That said, it relies on the fact that it's something that slowly spreads and not something that dooms your entire body from a single bite... Or becoming a bloodbag is something that affects the soul, cause going by pale damage that could be a thing

I see that both the criticism of Dulcinea in this video as well as a lot of comments defending it lacks serious context from the source material (the book). Dulcinea is really just a name in the book, but to say PM tried their best characterizing her is like saying PM did not understand the book. The reason source Dulcinea did not has any character is because she is the satirical representation of how old chilvary novels often objectify woman, viewing them as a names to save and not actual humans. PM Dulcinea is more of a interpretation to fit the context of the amusements park of the game and very much not a failed attempt at giving character to the source, as her lack of character is very much intentional like the source. She is the face of the parade but the parade is never-ending so people only know her as that and not as herself. She lost her identity being associated to the parade much like how source Dulcinea lost her identity being associated as a damsel in distress. The hate that boiled inside her when we met her is a interpreted logical continuation of that, like everything else in this canto, as she is now too tired of Don’s bullcrap and stop trying to show her character for everyone to see. . . . Her fight is indeed a slog though.

Not to mention the comments about how Sancho always looked at her as if she was a lesser, even when they were "equal", which may be a reference to how she was just set dressing in the novel and that compared to Don Quixote, a land owner, probably didn't give a hoot about her beside her role in his delusions since she was just a peasant. Or in this case, Sancho, someone who was just as much set dressing as her, looking down at her just because her because he was a Don Quixote's squire instead of a background character.

It may have that benefit, but I don't think Don is in a position where she even "needs" blood anymore, or at least not as she is. Both because of Rocinante and because Don has the void that is her emotional loneliness (Common to all Bloodfiends), filled via the rest of the crew. So long as they have conviction and purpose, I'm pretty sure Bloodfiends don't feel the thirst.

Though, the fact that they don't know that they're Bloodfiends probably helps, because they don't mentally associate blood (or hemobars) with fulfillment. Eating hemobars is like eating sawdust, not providing the actual nutrition Bloodfiends need and only serving to temporarily fill a hunger pang, but because Don Quixote and Sancho were already getting the emotional "nutrition" they needed they didn't notice that the hemobars were doing nothing.

a less talked about part that I love about canto 7 is about how they improved both don (obviously) but also sinclair as characters. seeing the shy traumatizing boy finally showing the bravery everyone wants to see from him, with the big pep talk scene being the biggest example of it as for the canto as a whole, I loved it, it was both a real fun time, especially when sanson is around, and it also got me emotionally choked up, which only really happened with canto 5 in limbus I'm not sure if it dethroned canto 5 for me yet, but maybe I need it to simmer in a tiny bit more

Dulcinea is only ever mentioned in name and vague descriptions of beauty, and the only one who ever talks about her is Quixote himself. A lot of productions and adaptations completely miss the point of dulcinea's character simply by making her exist, and her limbus iteration is barely a character because she doesn't want to be on the pedestal that other iterations of the story of Don Quixote tend to do. Tl,Dr: she's barely a character cuz, in limbus, she's tired of being a character, and, in Don Quixote, that's the point of her (nonexistent) character. (Note, I have not read the book, this is simply a lot of what I've gathered from discussion about her. I very well could be wrong)

To be fair, Esgoo, Dulcinea isn’t a character within the book either. She is simply a fantasy of a beautiful maiden, a lady in waiting, a god to knights. This fantasy is laid over a common maiden and is never met by Sancho or Don Quixote. What’s interesting to me is that they seemed to really focus on the fact that Sancho was always the one sent to contact Dulcinea, but was always mislaid by the Priest or other trickery. Which reflects nicely in why she hated Sancho in PM. She hated Sancho because they didn’t have a dream, she herself symbolizes the ideal dream for knights, for men, for those with drive. So the apathetic Sancho simply pisses her off for existing as a listless puppet by her father’s side.

Personally Canto 7 was my favorite, clearing even Canto 6. (Which I didn't know would even be possible) Don has been my favorite since the beginning of the game and I think that emotional attachment to the character made all of the stuff that happened to Sancho and Dad Quixote hit even harder for me, especially at the end.

Dulcinea's hopeless "carried by the parade" vibe, the way it seems like she lost her identity as anything but the pretty set piece of the parade, her relationship with our Don, and her quiet hatred made her a very fascinating character. I get if you prefer the Heathcliff? fight because he has a very different tone as a character (and also has more plot relevance), but she was a lot more unique for me. Whether you like Dulcinea or not is an opinion but she undeniably has a character, and a pretty unique one at that. Personally, I thought that the first two parts blew Canto 6 away, with Sanson moments, the attack animations, Jia Xichun, the Barber, the music, the backgrounds, and way too much other stuff to list here that is just a lot more memorable than the beginning of Canto 6. Maybe its just me, but apart from things like Little Sir Squirrel, Heathcliff?, the setting, the general tone of the Canto, and of course the plot (which is amazing but so is Canto 7's), Canto 6 was less engaging than 7's. Though I don't really get why you like the first parts of Canto 6 that much, so I guess it's just taste. Except for Dulcinea though. She is objectively hot... uhhh i mean interesting

i think the preference between canto 6 or 7 depends on the person. canto 6 is more story and theme driven, while 7 has that 'anime-esqe' kinda feeling.

I think the big issue is the fact that there are too many unbreakable coins If they were used more sporadically in certain fights, it would be fine. But especially in the final boss second phase, they put a lot of attacks which are full of unbreakable coins and that's super awful. Unbreakable coins are often used otherwise in places which would have an unclashable otherwise... Which makes it feel like constant unclashable attacks

Blood for Bloodfiends seems to exist more as a psychological/emotional need than a physical one. it's not a nutritional problem for them, but drinking blood from humans is what makes them happy, and being deprived of the chance to feed on humans directly is denying them that happiness. It's not so simple as saying "They don't need it," because they clearly do. Which I guess separates the difference between "Gluttony" and "Lust" here. They're not gluttons craving a food, they have a lust for something that fulfills them.

@@azeria1 Given that she's a Standard Fare ID, probably just a random, ordinary Zwei West Fixer. So far absolutely none of the Standard Fare IDs have been at all relevant to the story, just stock examples of their respective offscreen faction. Cinqsault and Zwestclair are an exception solely because they're directly based on Camille and Paula - they're more akin to past seasonal IDs like the Rosespanners.

A couple of notes I've got, if you will. -I *think*, based off of Zwei Sinclair (The Good One)'s uptie story, the fixers that betrayed the Fanghunts mighta been Paula and streamerboy. Less an active betrayal, more letting the line break. I could be completely wrong, too. -I agree with the rating of the canto below 6. For one, 6 set the bar real high, but also I felt like the main meat of the canto didn't hit as hard. The dungeon made up for it, but the non-dungeon was a touch lacking. -I absolutely didn't realize you could hold space either.

Dulcinea is the first character in Limbus Company I found I only really appreciated once I understood the connection between her and the literary inspiration. I think the execution, given the context of what I now know about the original Don Quixote work, is very interesting and cool. However, I don't think she stands very well on her own. The Priest is a tragic and sympathetic character, and the barber is at least somewhat entertaining. Dulcinea has plenty going on, but it's more or less all subtext. I think it's good subtext, but I think her not being engaging enough on her own merit is worthy of criticism. After all, every canto thus far has stood on its own without relying on the reader's knowledge of the works they took inspiration from.

1:11:30 I think that what it boils down to is that most part 2 bosses have some "cinematic" (for lack of a better term) quality that makes them stand out from just their gameplay. Dongbaek was the first character in Limbus Company to manifest her own E.G.O and changed the landscape you fight on, while soft-then-intense piano music plays in the background. Being the first of the "part 2 boss" achetype certainly helps. Ricardo being the first true showing of the infamously insane middle finger syndicate made him immediately appealing, and add onto that him kicking the sinners' asses, the mid-battle cutscene, the amazing ost, and the fact that we don't even fully deplete his healthbar, and it just goes without saying. Heathcliff? (or "Mirror Heathcliff" as I like to call him) was a massive reveal in the story and the fight makes that clear. He had intense orchestral music to go along with his fight, he had that extended beat-down from sinner Heathcliff, he had the memetic "every cathy... was destined to be miserable... due to Heathcliff", line at the end of the fight, and was essentially the catalyst for the game's first sinner distortion, and he's essentially the entire reason the "man, what a canto," "that was only part 2" meme exists in the community. His reappearance in part 3 with that famous final boss at the end only helped. Dulcinea, on the other hand, really only has her connection with the focus sinner, her difficult fight, and her music going for her... which are traits most of the part 2 bosses already have. And unlike the other part 2 bosses, she doesn't even have a combat cutscene, making her stand out less. I guess you could say the fact that she's a second kindred makes her stand out a bit compared to the other bosses...? But other than that, she doesn't really stand out. Or maybe I'm just being too harsh. Also, that Gone Angels cover was actually pretty good, even if you were off-time a bit! I wouldn't mind hearing an unironic cover of it.

Pretty spot on, I was underwhelmed with Part 1/2 aswell. And part 3 really pulled through. Maybe for a future stream/video ranking the individual parts of each chapter against each other. Part 2 of Ishmaels Canto is by far my favorite with epic story moments, fun times and great fights.

Reminder that one of his passives in 6-41 was "Eyes of a Friend that ■■■■". Assuming the length of the empty space is any indication... well, "died" would fit snugly there, wouldn't it? And it could explain why he expects Sancho to instinctively recognize his eyes as those of a First Kindred...

I think the reason big part of community disliked unbreakables was combination of all 3 - AOE, Bleed and, well, the unbreakable. I don't know how many people picked standard pass, but i did, and it's was much more annoying (because it gives +4/4 bleed/count at the combat start), and then proceeded to pick whip in confession (+10 bleed to highest %hp sinner at TURN START). For some that combo legit might have ruined the run and forced reset. (56 forced damage to one of your sinners, how interactive). It's much less annoying without those 2, especially since we also get small healing gift later in the dungeon. If PM just does combination of 2 out of 3 options, it'll be fine addition to the game.

The fact they got their hands on ego gifts and know what they do (not really how to use it properly) makes me think that. Also the fact they fucked off somewhere else…I still think Camille backstabbed Romero, don’t think any run of the mill fixer be able to leave after or atleast leave a lasting mark. We saw what happened to Hugo, and we don’t know how they were backstabbed. I really do like unbreakable coins because I have to do more than spam win rate because they are just IN YOUR FACE, and you either have to face tank then, heal them up or evade them. Don't know if Vergilius is a Bloodfiend since by now you'd figure he'd have symptoms of the Thirst, but based on what we find out he said to Don, his eyes are of a First Kindred. Given that he is a Colour Fixer though, it's not impossible he killed one and had the eyes surgically implanted for whatever reason.

He managed to avoid distortion, and Limbus Company arguably gave him a new focus, but Vergilius seems the furthest thing from having overcome loneliness by the time of the game, in fact he's deliberately trying not to get close to anyone else.

25:50 I forget where it was said, probably in Distortion Detective, but iirc the glowing red eyes some people in the city have (including Verg and potentially Ryoshu) are a result of a combat enhancement procedure. They don't go into details on how it works, just that red eyes are the result of it. With what Verg said there I guess the procedure is done using Bloodfiend blood. This would also explain why the Tingtang gangsters back in Canto 2 were interested in Don's eyes.

I really like how sancho and Mr. don quixote use unbreakable coins (would recommend doing the last fight sancho solo too for various reasons) since it lets the fight stand out more than just mindlessly rushing to stagger thresholds. - with dante’s skills making me question if the last one were gonna get will be angelica’s, lob protag, or … perhaps that ladys’. With the only gripe I can say with this canto being that cantos as a whole are meant to bring a spotlight to the character, with don liking to steal the spotlight since day 1. So by the time we got here I had already gotten use to tuning her out. But the last two fights made that up for me. Glad we got to fight the “windmill” too.

As someone who didn't enjoy Canto 6 as much as seemingly the majority, this is my new favorite canto since 5 hands down. Maybe I'm biased because Don has been my favorite character since I started, and Sancho's design is one of my favorites, but I honestly couldn't find much wrong with it (all the unanswered questions hopefully just weren't important, otherwise I might have to revisit my thoughts especially if that VIP is super important). The Dulcinea thing I agree she didn't have much character outside wanting to be the prettiest, but honestly that's an interesting spin on the original idea of the character. My biggest issues were that I feel Rocinante was not adequately explained, like what is it really? I'm assuming it's a construct Don Quixote made, but how did he give it the ability to stave off the hunger? Maybe I'm missing something, maybe it'll be explained later, really my biggest issue is the whole thing of bloodfiends being bad for drinking human blood, and all the themes related to that, meanwhile Don rides around on a bus that eats people for fuel. Feels a lot like double standards, and really would it be so bad for her to just take the shoes off and be a bloodfiend full time, if the people she drinks are the same people we feed to Mephistopheles? I mean this is more of an issue I have with early Limbus and the reason it took me a while to get into the story after Lob Corp and Ruina were so great, but I feel it really muddies the messages of this otherwise great story.
