You do really great video, thank you. It's the best material I found to learn cantonese. My only problem for now is the pronounciation of jyutping that doesn't seems to be stable. Bui1 = bouille (written the sound as how I would write in French, my mother language) Sui2 = seuille (sui2 seems to be pronounced similar to heoi3) The u have two radically different pronunciation. I notice also this with the j in saan1 juk1 ngau4 yuk6 = san djuk ngau yuk. Is there rules to pronounce well or it's case by case ?
@5minutecantonese16 күн бұрын
These are my very early videos. Now I standardized all to jyutping. Thank you very much for watching

Thanks for your ongoing lessons, always very useful and the teaching style is great. Just been retreading some of the older videos to revise, I've heard 'and' as tung-mai before rather than just 'tung'. Sort of like how 'what' sometimes sounds like 'mat-yeh' or 'mei' (normally with an 'aa' after). What determines what kind of 'and' should be used?
@5minutecantonese3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, you are right! Tung4 and 'tung4 maai4" are interchangeable in any situation.

I know it's normal to pronounce initials N as L sound but can you do that for all words? Also is milk coffee fe1 naai5 or naai5 fe1?
@5minutecantonese2 жыл бұрын
normally when we say gaa3 fe1, we assume it has milk especially I caa4 caan1 teng1. otherwise you can say gaa3 fe1 gaa1 naai5 gaa1 means to add

@@5minutecantonese thanks! Can you please also answer my 1 question?
@5minutecantonese2 жыл бұрын
Not for "ng", for example, eye "ngaan5" . we couldn't change it to l. I would recommend learners to stick with the correct one.
@YRoshani11 ай бұрын
A few questions - Why is /n/ pronounced as /l/? Why not write the jyutpin with /l/ for words starting with /n/? I've learnt that 'black coffee' is called 'hak gaa fe'. Is that a wrong term when ordering coffee without milk?
@5minutecantonese11 ай бұрын
Hi! n is the official pronouncation. It might sound weird to you but to us Cantonese speakers, the difference between n and l is so subtle that we don't even realize that is wrong. 😅 if you say haak3 gaa3 fe1, definitely all people will understand what you mean as it's directly translated from English. But most of us would say zaai1 fe1 for black coffee or gaa1 fe1 zau6 tong4 tung4 naai5 which means coffee without sugar and milk.

I understand "dung sui" as room temperature water. Ice cold water or ice water would be "bing sui", right?
@5minutecantonese4 жыл бұрын
Hi! You are absolutely right! To be very precise, bing1 sui2 means ice cold water. The range of Dung3 sui2 is wider, from room temperature, cool to cold. For example, ice cold lemon tea, coffee or tea, we also use dung3 more than bing1. But you are right, if you wanna order ice cold water, Bing1 sui2 is a better option 👍🏻 well done!
