Cantor Fitzgerald's Lutnick Is Ready to Take on the CME

Howard Lutnick is lining up some of Wall Street’s biggest power players for a fresh challenge to the behemoth of futures trading and interest-rate derivatives, CME Group. The Cantor Fitzgerald CEO got the backing of huge banks to launch FMX, his new futures exchange. He speaks to Bloomberg's Sonali Basak about that, monetary policy and the upcoming presidential election.

OTC markets are bespoke, they offer tailored products and BGC is a broker to find a counterparty. Obviously there must be some standarisation otherwise one counterparty is not going to create a market. There needs to lots of buyers per offer by a seller and lots of sellers for a buyer. So for example the Llyodes of London Insurance market operates an OTC market in insurance products for a number of markets that are needed by the vast majority of key insurance risks. No one is asking or demanding a futures exchage in insurance contracts where liability can be traded until it is called and whoever is holding bag has to pay out. Kind of like Musical Chairs 😂😂😂.
