They are playing so well since the Miller trade! Fun to watch. Miller is great, but he was never going to be like he was with the Canucks. Good for him to get a reset with NY too.

So far I like Chitil between Joshua and Garland. There is some talk about how Joshua isn't scoring this season like he was last season, but again, people forget he had CANCER in the off season, and missed all of September, October and most of November recovering from CANCER, if you think he's going to have CANCER and not have that affect his season, I've got a bridge in New York to sell you. I think having a dynamic centre, and Garland does have the ability to drive plays, maybe not to the degree of a Quinn Hughes or an Elias Pettersson when he's healthy and gets going again, but he does. Joshua's also been on the lower lines and separated from Garland most of this season, and it was that Joshua-Garland duo that drove a lot of both of their production last season, so maybe being reunited with his chemistry player and a play driver like Chitil will be just the thing Joshua needs to get his game back on track. If not, we can always try out Keefer in that same spot -- or Suter -- or Hoglander and see if putting him on a top line with top talent will help him get his scoring touch unlocked again this year. We got options. That's the thing fans don't pick up on with what Alvain and Rutherford are doing, they're creating options, so if one thing doesn't work, they can pivot quickly and try something else.

I liked when Tocchet switched Garland and Boeser as it gave Petey's line more speed and allowed Chytil's speed to create more space for Brock.

@ and Pettey has good speed himself, so having slower guys on both wings can force him to have to slow down to allow them to keep up with the play. I know we haven't seen Pettey's full speed for a while, but again, he had a knee injury and that even slowed the immortal Pavel Bure the Russian Rocket down a fair bit when had his first knee injury.

Watched the Canucks vs Sharks game tonight in San Jose. One takeaway. Elias Pettersson, defenseman, had 3 SOGs. Elias Pettersson, 11 million dollar first-line center, had zero. In fact, Defense Pettersson outshot Center Pettersson's entire FIRST LINE, which had two SOGs from Boeser in the first period. The first line was playing against the worst team in the league. OMG.

@ Especially given how young Mancini still is and I'd rather we let him develop however he needs to and become what he has the potential to become then risk ruining him by throwing him to the wolves before he's ready. I mean, look what happened with Silovs earlier this season when we had to push him into the NHL before he's really ready for it, though in that case, it was an injury that forced our hand, but still. Soucy's a veteran, he can work his way through his difficulties and get himself back on track, a kid may not be able to yet.

In order to keep Quinn Hughes happy the Canucks MUST trade for Josh Norris who is Huggy's very good friend. There is too much on the line with all noise and commotion to risk losing their best player. Besides, Norris in a 25 year old 2-way centre with a high upside so Jim and Patrick have to try to make it happen, especially with Chytil's injury history! The Sens were shopping Norris earlier in the season but now that they're in a playoff hunt so it may take a while.
@satisfyingV
@satisfyingV 6 күн бұрын
I think Norris could be a very serviceable 2C. However, you speak about Chytil's injury history as a reason of concern, and Norris also has a pretty extensive injury history which is the reason he's never seen a full season despite playing for 5 years. Granted, they aren't concussions, but still seems very injury prone.
@slickftw

Brady Tkachuk is his best friend. Probably. Also, I do not want Josh Norris anywhere on our roster, but i'd sure take Tkachuk.
@Seriously_Unserious
@Seriously_Unserious 6 күн бұрын
@@satisfyingV I agree that Norris has potential, but he's not proven yet, other then one single, lonely good season, yet he has the same cap hit as Miller, and has a history of injuries over the last few seasons. Getting him COULD work out, but you're taking a HUGE risk of Norris turning into our new Louie Eirikssen, he can't produce, we can't play him, we can't not play him, we can't trade him because he's paid way too much money, and we can't keep better players like Hughes and Lankinin because our cap space is tied up in a guy who didn't work out. I prefer Chitil who's similar to Norris, but has only a $4.3k cap hit, so if he doesn't work, we can move him, and his cap hit and potential will make him an attractive offer to a team looking to get younger. On the other hand, his talent is such that if he can stay healthy, he may work out for us and be the 2C we're looking for himself, no further deals needed, and big cap space left on the table to retain our current talent, or bring in a different piece of the puzzle we need.

IF the intent is to slide Chytil to the wing eventually, I'd like to see how he'd look riding shotgun with Pettersson. I think Chytil's speed would open up some ice and opportunity for Pettersson. Too often these days Pettersson looks to be flat footed when he gets the puck. He rarely moves through the neutral zone with the puck at speed and that has to change if Pettersson is going to return to form.

Norris reminds me of JT Miller before he became what he is on the Canucks, big, great skater, sniper type playing the C/W position at 25.....only difference is Norris doesn't have Miller's abrasive personality, so it would essentially be replacing Miller with younger, mellower Miller if we can acquire Norris
@Seriously_Unserious
@Seriously_Unserious 6 күн бұрын
Norris also has injury problems the last few seasons, and one thing he does have in common with JT is the cap hit at nearly $8 mil AAV. He's only had that one good season before the injuries. IF he can stay healthy, he MIGHT get back to that form, but he's also a huge risk of turning into another Louie Eiriksen, looks good on paper, before coming here, but production falls off a cliff and next thing we know, we've got a 4th line guy taking up top player cap space and we can't keep our real top players like what happened with Louie Eiriksen and losing our top players and veterans after 2020 and losing the momentum of what we'd been building around. I don't want the Canucks to risk another big contract player who may or may not work and if he doesn't, we're stuck with him because nobody wants him at that price and we can't keep our better players, leaving us doubly stuck with him.

canucks didn't lose the miller trade. he had already quiet quit before the trade happened. he wasn't going to bleed for the canucks any more. put soucy on the trading block. they have a ton of cap space and are going to try for a top 6 centre imo.
@rowds
@rowds 6 күн бұрын
Nope, sorry they got torched on that trade. Should have *fired* Tochet and traded Pettersson's God awful contract for whatever. You'd get a 2c for EP11.6. Miller is only 31 and will out produce EP for the length of Miller's contract. Bank on it.
@Seriously_Unserious
@Seriously_Unserious 6 күн бұрын
@@rowds Really... trade the guy who's still putting out the effort and the coach, and keep the guy who's phoning it in every game and pissing most of his team mates off and probably on the verge of a nervous breakdown as he's cracking under the pressure? No thanks! I'd rather keep the guy who plays 30+ games through a major knee injury a lesser player would have sat out for, (yeah, I'll bet you forgot about Pettersson's crippling injury last season into the summer). I'd also rather have the younger players with trade potential and improvement potentian who are eager to play and come with an infectious enthusiasm that can reignite the rest of the team, thank you very much. Oh, and Pettersson's still only 26 years old, so not even at his peak yet, he'll be in his prime for the next 6 seasons while Miller's on the decline. Again, no thanks. Again, I'd rather have the young player who's already one of the best in the league, has scored 100 points before, and has potential to get even better, and perhaps will now he has a chance to put the injuries and drama of a full hear of hell behind him.
