As a temporary fix for your dodger, use A high quality seam sealer for use on tents! The stuff is amazing and I’ve used it to repair all kinds of fabric tears!

Glad to see you downsized to the right size!!! Look forward to seeing your Mexico ventures, again. Relocated back to USA from Thailand. Spent 10-yrs there caring for my wife's dad who passed away last Aug. Got her another Green Card and loving Vermont. I had emergency colon cancer surgery 06 Apr, plis a Colostomy bag. Started Level 2 Chemo for my remaining liver cancer. Maybe I can get an Alberg 30 next year...Happy sailing...

Glad to have found you guys again. Love your new boat! I also have a Silica Dune dodger to replace as one of my next sewing projects. Like yours... my existing dodger top is super tight and detoriated. I just finished a stackpack as my first ever sewing project (oh my)and hope that I have what it takes to replicate the dodger top. We might have been the only two boats in San Diego with Silica Dune. Good job on yours!
@AdventureAdriftSailing3 жыл бұрын
Awesome job on the stack pack! I bet that was a project - the large things are always so tough to wrestle with all the fabric. We really do love the silica dune color - looks nice and you don't really notice wear/fading!
@svbarryduckworth6284 жыл бұрын
Our dodger is pretty darn tight too. It was made otit of a fabric called Stamoid Open which is sort of like vinyl but it has extremely strong fibers embedded into it. It is stronger, more waterproof, and UV-resistant, and makes the price of Sunbrella seem "economy" in comparison. Also, it is only sold wholesale to professional canvas shops and can't be purchased by us common people. There is a lesser grade of Stamoid that is available to the public but it is thinner and not as super. It still is extremely expensive though. No worries. The boat canvas business is a bit of a racket IMHO. Most of their customers are extremely well-heeled and money is really no object to that class of boaters, so the costs follow that trend. I'm sure you have also run into this phenomenon in the US. We may have to go with sunbrella if we re-make it someday, or do a midnight heist on the stamoid warehouse if they won't sell it to us :D
@AdventureAdriftSailing4 жыл бұрын
Oh great tip - we’ll definitely look into that fabric, sounds pretty cool! Agreed that the boat canvas industry is definitely in a lucrative business!! If they do good work, good on ‘em, but certainly not in our budget to be able to regularly spend that much! Next time around, we’ll have a plan for a hard dodger.

Good job, Hillary. Did you think about making it just a little looser, or would that not have worked? Some of those stitches are a little crooked, but mine are never that straight either. :) Hey, you guys should update the web site with the new boat info
@AdventureAdriftSailing4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, these stitches definitely weren't perfect, but they'll work... I added a few millimeters to each side, but was nervous that the shape would be off and zippers and snaps that I was reusing wouldn't line up. And you're right - we DO need to get the website updated! ;)
