Finding this video at this time took my breath away. I had decided to go this way (I am an old crafter) to merge one room into another. When I saw stickers so high I gave up and decided what I wanted to do will be way beyond my budget. I saw another video yesterday that piqued my interest. But got busy in family life. The first two videos in my feed today were yours. I am happy dancing. This will be perfect for both rooms. Thank you!!!

Just curious; what kind of polyurethane do you use? I need it to be durable enough to withstand a high traffic area but I'm worried about it cracking if it's too hard of a finish. Thanks!
@canvasrugs3 жыл бұрын
I use an oil-based polyurethane from Lanco in costa Rica. I have used Minwax water-based polyurethane with success but the importation was discontinued. Be sure your paint dries for several days before varnishing. this is the most important step to prevent cracking. Let each coat dry for at least 12 hours and let the last coat dry for 5 or more days before walking on it. I have these in hotels so they can withstand high traffic areas!

How do you do a wash after you are finished with the main pattern? So it looks antiqued or worn?
@canvasrugs3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I actually do the wash before most designs. I like to do it on the tiles for the Mexican Tile design or before I apply the jute stamp on many of the borders for the Cowrie Shell Design or Banana Tree Design. But it can be added afterwards, only use less water to control the application.

I'm sorry I must have missed it, what's the purpose of the wash?
@canvasrugs4 жыл бұрын
I like to use this technique to give more texture and life to a design. sometimes I feel an empty space in the center is boring so I tinted it to give it more detail. I also like to use this and put a stamp on top. It's something many of my rugs have and I wanted to explain how I do it.

@@canvasrugs I have been looking at lots of videos and I'm a bit confused. I just want to make a small area rug to go on my kitchen floor. The theme is kind of herbal plant so I have a cricket so I was going to create my own stencil design and paint it onto the rug. What I don't understand is do I need to use gesso, or do I just paint it and then stencil the design on top of the paint and then put polycrylic on it? Or do I need to do any of those steps?

@@barbra429 I use 3 coats of latex exterior house paint as a base. Then I paint the design. Let dry for 3-4 days. Then varnish. I use 5 coats of polyurethane.
