Canyoneering Pleiades Canyon | Moab Utah

Pleiades Canyon is a wet and wild ride. Sometimes more so than others. It depends on what time of year and how much snow pack the winter had. We like to hit it towards the end of summer each year for a fun time. Generally always wearing a wetsuit, although I've done it a couple times with low enough flow that we didn't need one.
This canyon is located just outside of Moab in San Juan County and has easy access. There is a short hike to get to the head of the canyon. The hike out on the other hand is about straight up some switchbacks. They've gotten worse (steeper) over the years, or I'm just getting soft. In good competent company this canyon is a 1/2 day trip and well worth it when the heat is out in Moab. Hope you enjoy the video :)

Didi this canyon in early June, with the temperature in Moab at 97 degrees. Up at Pleiades it was 68 degrees and the water was all snow melt - burr! At the last rappel we passed by a wall of ice!

That’s early in the year to get up in there. The flow had to be going pretty good at that time of year. I’ve seen photos of ice walls in there early on. Good on ya for hitting it. We’ve not been brave enough to try it that early

It can be slippery depending on how much moss may be growing on the rocks. It wasn't too bad this time around. Thanks for watching :)

Are wetsuits required?

They are early in the season or under high water flow. We have done it towards the end of the season under minimal flow with only neoprene socks and no wetsuits. It is a high altitude canyon and temps can be mild. The water is mountain run off so it can be cold.
