Cao Wei is No. 556 ITTF ranking for men, not 100, not 200; 556. Sun Yingsha is No. 2 ITTF ranking for women. Cao Wei who has access to less coaching, less exposure is able to take two games off her. Think about that. Men and women are not the same. I doubt Sun Yingsha can beat any man in the top 50. Impossible in a serious match.

ITTF ranking can be very misleading, especially when it comes to CHN. Because TT is a national Chinese sport, there is a certain quota of how many players can represent at the national level. There is no limit to outstanding state and provincial players who are really talented and can play at a high level but who have not had as many opportunities to play international events. Imagine being able to compete against Chinese national players or other best of province players on a regular basis - that's what makes these seemingly low ranked ITTF CHN players so good.

Stop the bullshit. At that time Cao Wei was around the 500th place because he didn't participate in a lot of tournaments (@matmagix3845 gave the reasons why). That does not mean he was at the level of the other guys ranked around the 500th place, he was already way better than that... Wen Rubio and most of the other top chinese players aged between 15 and 19 are currently in the same situation (Xiang Peng, Huang Youzheng, Chen Yuanyu, etc.) than Cao Wei when he lost against Sun Yinsha. Wen Ruibo currently plays like a top 50 players at the very least but he is actually 97th in the men ranking or something like that because in the past 12 months he only played in something like 5 or 6 WTT events (and half of them were WTT Youth Events, which gave you a lot less points than a WTT Feeder => a winner of a WTT Youth Contender earn half as many points than a quarter finalist in a WTT Feeder if I remember correctly...) while the vast majority of the players in the top 50 played in at least 12 WTT events in the past 12 months (for example, Felix Lebrun played in 17 events in the past 12 months, Harimoto in 21 events, Calderano in 15 events, Lin Yun-Ju in 17 events, Freitas in 14 events, Anders Lind in 20 events, ...). The more WTT tournaments you play, the more points you earn, and the higher you will be ranked. Also, do you know Zhang Yining beat Błaszczyk in a tournament in 2008, and at that time Błaszczyk was around the 50th place in the men ranking (three years before that match he was a quarter finalist at the 2005 WTTC...) ? She beat Lei Zhenhua in the same tournament, who at that time was ranked between the 50th and the 60th place in the men's ranking. You can find a video of her match against Błaszczyk on KZbin if you don't believe me... Another thing. A few years ago Liu Guoliang (head coach of the Chinese Men's National Table Tennis Team) said that the women of China A team would give a really hard time to the men of China B Team (the men of China B Team are all among the best 100 players of the world, some of them in the top 50...). But I guess your opinion is way more relevant than Liu Guoliang's opinion, who is one of the best player and coach of all time...

@@michaelfarmhand I would say that saying that it is "IMPOSSIBLE" for Sung Yinsha to beat a men in the top 50 is an insult to her (and you said that without any proof or argument...). Don't you agree ?

What rank is Cao Wei in CNT? Certainly not A team. B or C team?

This dude ranked 560 did well to take 2 games off Sun and win 53 of the 113 points played for. Sun turned up the heat and won the sixth game easily though. I suspect Cao is a lot better than his ranking as Sun beat XX recently finishing him off with 5 straight points.

Perhaps Xu Xin was trying to boost her confidence. In a game with rankings at stake she’ll struggle to cope with Xu Xin’s serves let alone his topspins. Point is, when men play with women they find it hard to put on their game face; they’re simply not up for the game but do it because they’ve been asked to.

ITTF ranking can be misleading for the players off radar, because of the sheer number of potential professional TT players from China. Think about it - there are only 7 players from CHN in the top 100 men's ranking. It means that a lot of CHN players represent in regional and provincial state tournaments but might not necessarily play international events.

Sun played XX in handicap, totally different. This one was straight.
