I am a former Vet Tech and that swinging method is what we were taught to do to help clear the airways when an emergency C-section was performed. The pup/kitten was wrapped in a towel with the whole body secured with both hands and you swing them very similar to the way you did followed by vigorous rubbing. You did a great job and I'm very happy to see Mom and puppies are doing well! CONGRATULATIONS!! 🤗

Do you learn much about dog nutrition in veterinary school? I'd heard that it's not really discussed, regardless how crucial it's shown to be in people, implying it would be just as crucial & beneficial for any species. Just curious because I don't have the experience of veterinary school or medicine. BTW - bless you for your dedication to a species that's not your own. There are probably pitfalls (like lesser communication) that make it challenging. A lot of people would give up the fight. I think it's a honorable dedication. And I love animals! They deserve a lot more than most people tend to give.

@@cudawantd1 That's awesome! My other dog had to deliver one puppy via C-section because she was too big for the birth canal. That's prolly what the vet had to do for her and she is a healthy dog at 2 years old now! I'm thankful my neighbor had told me about that when I told her we were expecting pups that next week or we wouldn't have our big boy, Houdini.
@victoriaderaemaeker5 жыл бұрын
Lucky enough she had you there to swoop in to help. Unfortunately I had a similar incident that didn't end so well with my kitty when I was only 5. My cat had given birth to 4 kittens perfectly until one more took her over 25 minutes to push out, my family was panicking and me, the youngest wasn't gonna sit back and watch my love in pain. So I pulled the kitten out of her and fortunately he was healthy, but then she had 2 more kittens left to deliver. Because of the one little guy struggling to come out was in there so long the next kitten to be birthed ended up with both eyes infected for being outside of the sac so long and was told it wasn't going to make it, and the next kitten after was a still birth. I spent the whole night bottle feeding the infected kitten with kitten formula up until he died in my arms. As a 5 year old who loved her kitty unconditionally that morning was me experiencing my first heart break.

Kittens can't digest the formula, this is one of the reasons it is very important they are with their mother for as long as possible in their first few months and especially important in their first few weeks, more so in their very first moments... Only kittens around 3-4 weeks of age are supposed to be fed kitten formula... Most people do an emergency foster mom cat if there is some reason their actual mother cannot/will not take their own kittens.
@victoriaderaemaeker5 жыл бұрын
My aunt called her vet and they said to feed it, and just comfort it with formula cause it was going to die anyways and they would retrieve the kitten in the morning. So that's what I did.

I found a tiny kitten outside my chicken house years ago. Let it there thinking mom would come back. She didn't. He was cold and not doing well. His eyes weren't open and neither were his ears. I went to the store got a bottle and kitty formula. Took over a day to get him to eat. Finally he got the hang of the bottle. He survived! My entire family took turns bottle feeding him. We used warm, wet cotton balls to stimulate his bowels and bladder. He lived 10 years. Got diabetes and was on insulin for three years. He died from kidney failure. Maybe his momma knew he was flawed and abandoned him. We'll never know. But he thrived on the kitty formula when he was very tiny.
@kimdawcatgirl5 жыл бұрын
@@Geminei Sadly, you are misinformed about kitten formula. It is given to newborns just fine, and some have colostrum in the formula. Kittens need that for the antibodies but, if careful not to expose the newborns to diseased cats, can survive quite well until they can be vaccinated. Intranasal vaccines can be administered to 4 week old kittens when necessary and because they are modified live, can produce immunity within 48 to 72 hours. I know because I have fostered many, many kittens from the nearby dairy barn and from purebreds that didn't produce enough milk to one who wouldn't care for her kittens due to extreme bloodloss.

The fact that you knew what to do in what some call a controversial technique for getting fluid out of their airway is done by breeders and vets all the time. I took care of show dogs and horses and sometimes no matter what you do you can lose one or more but I’m glad you didn’t!!

Omg I'm so glad you did that.... after he started struggling, the whole time I was hollering at the phone, "WING HIM! YOU NEED TO WING HIM!"(I didnt know what else to call it, but as a vet tech I knew it worked and had done it on a litter of c-section kittens and one of my own pups that had the same issue yours did)..... when you finally did I was so relieved especially once it began to work, as I knew it would after you said you could hear the fluid. Now I was never told to blow in the lungs first. I was taught the opposite, that you never do that with fluid in the lungs but hey, IT WORKED! Good looking out!

That was really awesome to see you not give up on the pup. I hope they turn out great for your family down the road!

**Thank you for watching. I hope this video helps. I wasn't gonna share it but i felt it needed to be out there for people to see and learn from it. Im sure it won't get the best response but im ok with that. Not everyone who hasn't experienced this will understand. Most breeders wont share such things and don't want the public to see their mistakes or tribulations. We feel the best way to improve is to learn and share. Intuition does not disregard logical thinking, rather it allows us to transcend its limitations. A moment of insight is very often the product of a lifetime of experience** Thanks for watching
