I was waiting for a new Capablanca video in order to share with you a little story about him. I don't think Agad will see it, let alone read it, but I hope you like it. My great grandmother once played a chess game against him and won. Apparently, Capablanca and my great grandfather were friends, so one day he was visiting their house and saw a chess board there. Intrigued, he asked who played chess and was told that it was my great grandmother. So, while they were waiting for my great grandfather to get ready to leave together, they decided to play a game. Not a very serious one I presume but he lost. Funny thing is that he refused to ever again set foot in my great grandparents' house since it was "the house of a witch" in his own words. Unfortunately, I don't know the details of the game itself (and I personally suspect that he went easy on her or underestimated her, at least initially) but I find the story rather amusing nonetheless.

Wasn't Capablanca one those old chess players that was a dick, and thought of themselves as some otherworldly beings for being good at the game and felt insulted to loss to people? Or maybe I'm thinking of Rubenstein ¯\_(⊙_ʖ⊙)_/¯?
@delperalfanjul
@delperalfanjul 3 жыл бұрын
@@talphazero1036 Well maybe you are right. I really don't know much about him outside his games. Certainly, if what you say is true it appears to agree with what I tell in my story. Also, my great grandmother wasn't that kind herself either so I can easily see both of them clashing after such an innocuous incident.

@@talphazero1036 i think you are talking about Steinitz who claimed he had played and defeated god at chess. Capablanca definitely had a large ego but he always admitted his mistakes. He was the first person to include his losses in his own book. And once he said something like, it takes a knock on the head to snap back to senses admitting that he is overconfident at times.

Hello, agadmator. I am a writer from Brazil and I would like to point out the quotation mark you used on the quote above the board. On Brazil (and I think it is global) we use double quotation marks ( "" ) to quote, but when there is a quote inside a quote we use only one quotation mark ( ' ). That means the correct writing should be "I can see the headlines: 'Capablanca's is getting old'". Thank you for all your dedication on producing awsome videos!

Capa is still my choice for greatest of all time. You put every great chess player in a time machine and bring them to the present, all in their primes, and give them as long as they need to learn the evolution the game has undergone, all new opening ides and variations, then put them all in a giant tournament of individual matches, I say Capablanca would come out on top with Carlsen and Kasparov 2nd and 3rd (either one) and probably Fischer 4th. After 4th place I can't call it.

At 11:20 wouldn't knight to f3 check create a window of escape for the queen by losing some other piece(s) - 3 options move the king in which case queen gets a defended square d2 to move to where knight (at f3) guards her and if knight now captured she can escape... or if white picks up knight by queen then squares open up, and if white picks up knight by bishop then can try and bring rook into game by rook c1 and then if bishop back to e4 then queen captures knight c3 might be a tad bit better? Maybe you'd still lose in a rook and bishop endgame as your passed pawns will go but just a thought...

This game is a Sicilian Alapin by transposition in a line that I lost horribly as black to a well prepared strong player. For me Capa is the most naturally chess player of all time. Imagine how incredible he would have been had he had the application of an Alekhine or Botvinnik!

Hi Antonio! Did you saw the game between Fier and Dionisi?! When to promotion, Fier brought another dark square bishop, ending up with two dark squares bishops, never seen that before. . . #Suggestion
