Mike is missing important special moves of Punisher and AVP but stating those are lacking. CAPCOM's AVP specifically resembles fighting games, so Mike didn't know anything about that but "Woo, this game is a bit monotonous !" He's a know-it-all in this review.

1:51 Actually, Guy was trying to beat some sense into Cody because Cody didn't wanna stay with Jessica (the girl) and wanted to keep cleaning up Metro City. This became an obsession for Cody in the Street Fighter Alpha series to the point that he would rather go to jail while fighting rather than settle down into the quiet life with a girl.
@RoyStantz7 жыл бұрын
And since then, Maki has been trying to defeat Guy in order to claim the title of Bushin Master.

Akio Furukawa Thank you! I posted the same thing before I saw you actually beat me to it but i'm glad people agree. Does Mike know Cody's love for fighting landed him in prison? XD
@figment19885 жыл бұрын
and this was something which Capcom would parody in the arcade adaptation of Little Nemo where if you manage to beat the game without continuing, you'll be able to see two ending parodies, and one of them is a spoof of Final Fight's ending where Flip assumes Guy's role while Nemo assumes Cody's role.

I once finished it with one coin. I was playing with 2 more friends, though. You can cheat the bosses by having a char punching off screen, while the second or third character covers your back. Works with *almost all bosses. Plus, you get 1ups at 50000 points, and then another one at 1m. This game and Final Fight 3 on SNES are probably my favorite beat them ups ever!

Single pauldrons were common in the middle ages: they were heavy, so having only one allowed the fighter to be less encumbered than a knight in full plate, coupling it with a particular fighting stance allowing the unprotected side of the body to remain out of harm's way.

There's a pretty huge oversight in your Punisher mini-review here, Mike. This game had not only normal attacks and specials that consumed your life gauge. It also had command specials, like Guile-style somersault kick (even done with similar input: d,u+A), and pretty descent combo potential for a beat-em-up game. The same goes for Alien vs. Predator. Huge combo potential and command specials like dragon-punch-like uppercuts or knee attacks for the Predators, dive kicks, and other cool gameplay mechanics, that you seem not to even be aware of. It's a shame you completely missed that.
@tartrazine57 жыл бұрын
And Punisher does crazy stuff like jump-kicking his way into a building when there's a perfectly good door right beside.
@PotatoMcFry7 жыл бұрын
I think 90% of the people that play these games are unaware of these special moves. I know that I never found out until I read about the game a decade later on GameFAQs. The games needed a move list on the cabinet, like fighting games used to do.

Exactly - Running moves - which in this game are rolling moves. Grabbing, grab and throw from combo to which ever side you need to. jumping with grabbed opponent - with 3 different moves. Rolling special, etc. It's like Mikey never played the arcade.

Look at the jump in quality of the sprite work from 1986 to 1994. I remember it felt so exciting to see arcade games progressively get better and better back then. It felt like 2d style beat em ups would always be around. And then it all fell apart and went away seemingly overnight. I miss these games terribly.

Hope you get to make more like this, Mike!!! I remember when I was like 7-8 years old in the local skating rink, stunned in disbelief at how awesome the new TMNT arcade game looked. I know it's not Capcom, but it was one of those moments my young, video game-loving mind was completely blown. It took a couple weeks before I got to play it since the bigger kids surrounded it constantly, but when I did it was so worth the wait. The first time I made it to the Rocksteady and Bebob boss battle and seen them accidentally run into each other head-first after I jumped to dodge them I was mystified that was even possible in a game!

Because he might have? @@earthwormjim91Why would that be strange, people on camera usually do it all the time, but when a KZbinr does it it's weird? Great vid! It is a little heretical to state that Alien vs Predator and The Punisher are lacking, though. IMO those are some of the best beat em ups of all time. They don't need branching paths when they have such immense gameplay freedom. Some people play AvP and do giant combos on par with a fighting game's. You should do a Konami beat em up video now.

@rcso20107 жыл бұрын
11:30 In The Punisher I was able to finish it with just one coin at the arcades. There's another attack Guile's flash kick style that doesn't consume healt. When you grab an enemy, you can keed him until cutting his throat, shotting at his face or, my favorite, do a special attack to knock the surrounding enemies; the funny part is you can grab kingpin and perform a special attack and you will see the kingpin swirling around all the screen. To defeat the robots, move in middle of them and hit them twice and move vertically to avoid being hit.

Love this! I always love Capcom's beat em ups, particularly Knights of the Round and Warriors of Fate (I played Tenchi wo Kurau, the Japanese version). In the Knights of the Round, if you string kill the same type of enemies (e.g. soldiers), you get score multipliers. The tougher the enemies, the higher the multipliers. If you successfully do this, you can collect higher scores and level up faster.

The dude in the Punisher game with the tank treads is actually an X-Men antagonist, he's Bonebreaker, one of the Reavers. The Reavers were a bunch of cyborgs, and actually had a portrayal in the recent "Logan" film. The main antagonist in that film, the guy with the cybernetic hand, was a depiction of Donald Pierce, long-time leader of the Reavers, who in the film were cyborg mercs (Although no where near as cyborg-y as the comics.)

Streets of Rage 2 is the GOAT. Tight controls, distinct characters, tough bosses, and one of the best soundtracks of all time.
@beanwithbacon7 жыл бұрын
ROFL, it expanded greatly on the theme. Final Fight has extremely shallow combat compared to SoR2. Streets of Rage more or less perfected 2d brawler combat. Not to mention what the SoR series did for video game music. It completely changed what people thought could be done with it.

Final Fight was always better than Streets of Rage. Better controls, larger sprites, better character design and gameplay.

I don´t like the fact that the character doesn't move a little between attacks at SOR2. if you start to punch at wrong place, you are screwed. The time that takes to character move again, is huge. SOR3 is way better in gameplay.
