What a great fiddle player he was. Marvellous. A lesson to all those posturing frantic players out there (and those who like them).

No I was never there, the nearest I got to these particular Rankins was standing in front of the painting of them outside Bobby MacMillan's shop in Mabou in 1996.

@battyboyzzz THIS IS NOT A SONG! The Rankins have a set of tunes begininning with the Lime Hill strathspey on the CD "Fare Thee Well Love" but the following strathspey is different with "Keep the Country Bonnie Lassie" in place of Calum Breugach. Jack Daniel's Reel is played in the set in the CD. "Molly Rankin's Reel" which is part of this set on the video is also on the CD but follows on from "Tell Me Ma."

Aye, ah agree with you "dkd24". There is another video on KZbin that I had that feeling about.Brenda Stubbert's reel played on the button box posted by "diaton" is worth listening to. I went to a concert where the Rankins were playing a few years back, it had a good atmosphere and I enjoyed the step dancing there too.

Oh Goodness! Why did ye have to leave us, Johnnie?!
@UISTMAN5917 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. There was an m.c. in the islands who used to say 'the next song will be a dance' and we always thought it was funny. I don't understand why some folk refer to 'tunes' as 'songs'. This is a set of tunes which - I think - comprises Lime Hill Calum Breauch King George IV Jack Daniel's Little Donald In The Pigpen Anyhow, go to lbrankinfiles for more tunes and songs from the Rankins. All I have I've shared I'm afraid.

Great singers the sisters were,not so great at Highland dancing though,and you aren't supposed to look stiff as a board.
@mrsfrisby37565 жыл бұрын
They're not "Highland dancing", they're step-dancing. All the action is from the knee down. The top stays still.
