I was there that day! So many squid! Caught a 40lb beast at 5am and a few other good ones. It was an epic day. Lots of big fish.

Is penn slammer 3 5500 too small for canal? Or should you push it for 6500?

vsonic86 I landed multiple fish over 40” that morning with zero issues. Plenty of line capacity on that reel. If I get spooled, it’s going to be because I hooked into a marlin or tuna.

Cevan42 alright man, because I just picked my delivery of penn slammer 3 5500 today! I was using penn slammer 3 4500 the other night. Oh man, it is such a struggle just to pull fish. So I thought I might need to push it up to 6500 or something like that. Glade to hear your response.

Lol reason I asked is because last season I was wading the west end at 3 am n something grabbed my 5 oz gags mack pro on a jig head it ran then dove and held down for few mins then I let the line loose off the spool of my vs250 n then 20 seconds I find my self back on line n the fish took off like a torpedo it gave me a quick 4 seconds of hope n then just hauled n line snapped but my drag was screaming rod felt like it was gonna explode... big bass?? Or you think Tuna or marlin at 3 am on west end of canal

It's just up from the Sagamore heading twds Bourne Bridge. Most likely accessible from the hockey arena along the canal. At 7:02 the Sagamore is visible.
