Cape Floods: 'Relocation is the only solution for Lwandle residents' says councillor

Cape Town residents are mopping up after two days of inclement weather which caused widespread disruptions and damage, including loss of shelter, localised flooding, fallen trees, electricity outages, and road closures. Lwandle informal settlement near Strand was one of the hardest hit areas.

The land is not meant for occupation - it is a wetland so no proper natural drainage exists - the water stays above ground when it rains. It is the same every winter - same sad story.

I used to live in Gordons Bay and and personally witnessed flooding in this area. Driving off the N2 the whole road was flooded because of a blocked drainage canal and municipal workers were busy clearing the canal . Why don't people put their garbage in the bins provided.? Don't they realise that it is for their own good.
