Awesome song! Cape Horn is almost 56°S and marks the southernmost point of the Americas. I'd love to visit someday...if I have the ability. 🙂

Thank you. A very remote and historical location in an amazing environment. After 50 years of dreaming of this place, I was there in October last year. I'm not a religious man, but that little church touched me deeply.

In all the books and movies I have ever read and seen that talk about Cape Horn they always say how windy and stormy it is. It's fascinating to see it this calm.

Environmental reasons I'm assuming. Dont want glacial ice to melt faster than it already is

Well, I'm totally confused. After hearing about and reading of the wicked storms that are so prevalent around Cape Horn I'm stunned to see it in calm weather and with tourists visiting no less. Just how frequent are the storms? I feel like I've been lied to all these years.

The landing site for Cape Horn is a stone beach made up of football sized rocks, and although we landed on a calm day, crew had to be waiting chest deep in the water, to control the zodiacs, which was difficult even in those good conditions. While the weather was fine the day before and the morning of our approach, the captain would not guarantee landing, and warned it may not be possible a number of times. At one point during our passage through the Beagle Channel, the weather went from 16 deg C, mild and still, to 2 deg C, very blustery, with heavy chop and extremely low visibility in less than 10 minutes. The crew remarked on how unusually good the conditions were for our trip more than once.

Dear Rrudy, Don't worry, you've not been lied to all these years! The lighthouse keeper confirmed that most of the time winds and waves are really heavy and calm days extremely rare around Cape Horn.

Though it will not be easy to restock or resupply (especially in the winter months)! And it better have a lodge in case it is hard to leave it due to shitty weather! 🤣🤣🤣

From this video it looks a very peaceful place.I have also watched the Documentary Ghosts of Cape Horn which tells about the days of the Tall Sailings Ships rounding the Horn hence The Albatross Memorial to those Great Sailors. There is also a song written by Gordon Lightfoot called Ghosts of Cape Horn.

Me olimme Hurtigruten-varustamon Roald Amundsen-aluksella. Cap Hornia ympäröivät meret ovat maailman myrskyisimpiä, joten valitettavasti rantautuminen onnistuu vain kuulemma vain noin joka kymmenennellä risteilyllä.
