Loved watching this now even more than i did when it first came out. After watching you get up to the tip many times, I got to experience it myself for the first time last year. with the wife and kids too. And I gotta say, now I have a totally different and an even better view of Cape York. Love the place mate. Thanks for inspiring me all those years ago.

Did the trip in 1975 in a '58 Land Rover with 2 others, all 18. Very, very different to what it's like now so it's interesting seeing the contrast. A hard and very demanding but exciting trip.

Hey Roothy have seen the Leyland brothers to the Cape 1972 on KZbin. What a trip . It's incredible how they got a Landrover across the Jardine River . They even brought the wives and kids with them .It's worth a look..

As a kid I lived in Cairns and in the 80s Cairns was still a large country towns and we had family friends that lived in Cooktown and we done the trip a few times up to cooktown and up to the Cape I'm surprised a lot of it still looks the same but thanks so much for this video and reminding me of how lucky I was as a child and seeing all of these places and I would love to see it all again.

I did my trip in 2006, Jackaroo with Campomatic camper. Went up the tele track though, came back on the development road, and went to Weipa on the way up. The Tele track is a must do - it's not a Cape trip if you just drive the corrugation highway up and back.

Most of the issues with stopped vehicles in the outback these days are computer related!!! Old trucks can usually be fixed and driven home.

I had to laugh ...A trip to the "tip" in nZ is known as a saturday morning drive to the local rubbish pit. Enjoyed the vid ,brought back memories of the FJ40 work horse in the hey day , The townies here fancy them fully restored in showroom cond/all show and no go,lucky if they are seen about sundays .Owers known as Fendalton farmers .Fendalton being a posh suburb in chch. keep up the good work John.

Over here if we loose a plate - and I've lost heaps - they sell us another one with a different number. We actually have to pay even more to get the priginal number back. I prefer your UK system.

Ha! Sprung - I use an Enfield Himalayan trail bike for shopping trips and lately have been testing a Mahindra Pik Up for heavier stuff - two Indians! Milo2 only gets out on trips - otherwise I spend all day talking ....

Any idea how old this episode is. It wasn’t yesterday. Also it takes two to tango, don’t ride down a dirt road shared by cars if it’s likely to be dirt. Common sense applies.
