Great reaction bro! LaMotta is like the anti-Rocky in a way. He takes punishment and he gives punishment to everyone around him including the people he loves. A very flawed human and anti-hero. The DeNiro-Pesci-Scorsese collab continues with Goodfellas, Casino and The Irishman. All great films. The DeNiro-Scorsese combo is also iconic. Taxi Driver, King of Comedy, Cape Fear and Mean Streets pretty much made DeNiro who he is. One of greatest living actors.

It's unbelievable there are no reactions for "King Of Comedy" or "Cape Fear" or "Mean Streets" (which you left out, but is definitely worth seeing). "Cape Fear" was his biggest hit, and "King Of Comedy" is one of the big influences on "Joker", so you'd think there would be reactions for those!

@@realmadridchannel10 "Mean Streets" is not the very first Scorsese/De Niro movie I'd suggest for a reaction, but eventually it's essential to hit and I feel worth seeing. More importantly, I feel to fully appreciate how great De Niro is in "Godfather Part 2", it's great to see "Mean Streets" which was released the year before (and which has aged much better than "Bang The Drum Slowly", which also came out that year. Three more different characters you'd be hard pressed to find!). I feel the same way with '72 Brando. To fully, truly appreciate his performance in "The Godfather" people should watch "The Nightcomers" which came out a month before "The Godfather" and/or "Last Tango In Paris" which came out a few months after. Again, three completely different characters/performances in the space of a year. Then it really hits home what Brando really looked like that year without the make-up, and how crafted that performance was. (he's amazing in all three movies)

Jake's "I could've been a contender" speech at the end is taken from the film "On the Waterfront" with Marlon Brando. If you are ever up to watching old black and white film, definitely check it out just to see one the greatest actors ever in his youth. Then watch the Godfather to see him older and just as great.

After Robert De Niro trained hard to get his body in tip top shape to become a boxer, later his crazy azz actually took time off to gain 60 pounds putting his own health at risk to realistically portray Jake LaMotta during his downfall post retirement years. The bloody brutal 1951 Valentines Day massacre boxing match between Jake LaMotta and Sugar Ray Robinson is my favorite scene! Keep it up brotha you are the MVP of KZbin reactions! ✊🏾

A few facts about Jake’s story translated to film - That crowd riot at the end of the LaMotta-Reeves fight actually happened. Took almost 10 minutes to get everything back under control. And most of the stuff that happens between him and his brother in the movie actually went down with his childhood (and probably only real friend) Pete Savage. But to make it a tighter story, that role was assigned to his brother in-movie. Savage actually has a brief cameo, he was the guy talking about the Oscar Jackson fight with Joey.

This movie was such a shocker, especially after the heartwarming success of Rocky, four years prior. Really showed how boxing movies could be about more than just uplifting tales and inspiration.

The movie was more shocking because of all the weight De Niro gained for the role. NO ONE had ever done stuff like that back then. Now, Daniel Day Lewis stays in character for the whole shoot and all that, but in 1980, this was the first anyone heard of someone going that far for a role. That was all anyone was talking about that year, he was practically a shew-in for Best Actor. Definitely there was talk, comparing it to "Rocky" and how different it was, though.

Raging Bull is definitely among Martin Scorsese's greatest achievements. If "Rocky" is a trip to the moon, Raging Bull feels more like the dark side of the moon. Next stop should definitely be "Taxi Driver", another iconic Scorsese-De Niro collaboration.

Yes, Raging Bull! Few, if any have reacted to this phenomenal movie. Imo, this along with Taxi Driver are the two very best Scorsese /DeNiro movies.

PS: Scorsese is great! Most definitely check his stuff out, especially the ones he did with De Niro, but also the movie "After Hours" is great. But obviously his mob movies of "Goodfellas", and "Casino" are side by side with "The Godfather" as best mafia movies ever. "The King Of Comedy" came out next, after "Raging Bull" and is a completely different character. Great, great movie! "Cape Fear" is crazy, intense and super suspenseful. "Mean Streets" is their first movie together, another mob movie, and a totally different role from De Niro than the one he'd play a year later in "Godfather Part 2". "Taxi Driver" is another one of his most iconic - and disturbing roles. And a couple of years ago they did another very good mob movie, "The Irishman". Other essential De Niro: "The Deer Hunter" (Vietnam movie, amazing performance), "Midnight Run" (comedy), "Jackie Brown" (Tarantino). There are so many! "Awakenings", "This Boy's Life", etc.

I've got a couple of cheques (checks) signed by LaMotta in my boxing memorabilia collection. They were for alcohol for his club in the 1950s. Also have an 8x10 of the Raging Bull poster signed by DeNiro, Pesci, and Scorsese (I really hope the sigs are genuine on that).

Fantastic reaction and brilliant post-film remarks: "they show us the story, they don't tell it." You just said a mouthful there! And all the stuff with his relationship with women, and weight. That's why De Niro wanted to play this role, he was intrigued by how a guy could lose so much just by letting himself go! lol. I was laughing in the beginning of the video thinking "Wow, you're not convinced De Niro can play a boxer huh? HA!" This is one of his most "iconic" roles, as they say I love how you were talking about how the fight scenes were shot. These are the best fight scenes ever shot, as far as I'm concerned. Definitely the most beautiful and "expressionistic" and the black & white just makes it. De Niro spent the 70s doing incredible role after incredible role, each one different from the last........he got his first Oscar for "The Godfather Part 2".....and then six years later, he got his second for this movie. It was a no-contest that year, every one KNEW who he was going to win./ That last speech is the famous monologue that Marlon Brando gives in "On The Waterfront". So De Niro is doing Brando (who was playing a boxer).....as Jake La Motta. Brilliant. And this is made extra cool because De Niro played the young Brando in "The Godfather Part 2". Plus Scorsese is in the tradition of the director of that film (and others), Elia Kazan. So that ending works on, like, ten thousand different levels, lol.

Since you appreciate good filmmaking and story-driven boxing films, PLEASE check out Cinderella Man. It's Russell Crowe at his finest, and is one of the greatest true stories in sports history. A man literally fighting to feed his family. Only one reactor has done this which is criminal. It not only is a powerful story, but has some of the finest cinematography you'll ever see, and very realistic boxing scenes. In fact, Angelo Dundee, Muhammad Ali's trainer, helped train Russell Crowe for the film and is featured in his corner during the fight scenes.
