I love Jack Lemmon's performance in this film. His anxiety, exhaustion and desperation are written all over his face. It's impossible not to sympathise with him. One of the all time great actors.

I liked how his character was still using the tired, old lines from his salad days when he was a successful salesman; lines that now no longer work. The big tip-off was hearing him call his phony secretary "Grace" which is a name that hasn't been popular in years.

At this point in Lemon's career, it's simply an amazing performance 🎭. He delivers his lines with lightning speed, his emotions are so convincing, and this one of his finest performances embodies the human spirit in the throes of desperation. He deserved a damn Oscar for this. I don't know what else to say. R.I.P the Great Jack Lemon!

I did direct sale sin the 80's. This movie is 100% on point. I have met each of the personalities in this film, including Alec Baldwin's, who DID make the same car reference. Was the high flyer, also the guy on a rainy night in phonebox, fighting tears just wanting a decent lead or facing the chop the next day. You are 100% right, everyone should do sales at some point... you learn so much about people and learn to understand different perspectives. If I had one takeaway, it was to not pre-judge people or judge the book by the cover... you have no idea whats going on in peoples lives. Yes, we had a manager once get his assistant to fill out 'lead forms' with random names from the phonebook because he didn't have any real leads. The stories I could tell....including having a salesman's jealous wife swatting her husband, and a young hotshot salesman doing a lead at a house 2 stewardesses lived at. He went missing for a week, but eventually turned up tired and full of smiles (with a new postal address)

Can we admit - when it comes to being a "bad-ass, cold motha-fu--a" - Alex Baldwin hardly gets the credit he deserves for his speech in this movie. As for Roma in the bar - what is he talking about - he hardly seems to be trying to sell - EXACTLY. Sales uses the same skills as con-men, you know that is short for something right - it's conFEDINECE. You have to get the mark to trust you, to see you as a pal, an ally, someone you can trust, aka - someone you can put your confidence in, that is the game. ABC - Always Be Closing - always be working the mark - moving them to trust you, and say yes.

Back in 1984 I was 19 and was a Salesman for a new company that sold home security systems. After three days of training we all went on our first calls. At my very first call I sold a system, they sold for $1800 and I got $400 for each one I sold. Two days later I sold three in one day. I worked with other guys who were all much older than me and had sales backgrounds. Most went weeks with no sales. I was the top guy making $800-$2000 a week then the company came under investigation for dubious practices. They changed the name of the company and changed locations but I didn't want to risk going with them. It was great for awhile and it really was a rush making a sale.

Alec Baldwin has like 5 1/2 minutes of screen time and he won the Best Supporting Actor Academy award with it :)

2:52 I never waited for the credits to see if Alec Baldwin's character was credited as "F*ck You" since that was the only name we get for him.

Wonder how many folks remember those seminars at hotels where they trapped hundreds of unfortunates lured by the siren song of free vacations? How many still "own" those Time Shares? Such stories were prominent during the '90's. Most hilariously portrayed on "South Park".
