I believe this is called "Skye Waulking Song" because Gaelic women would sing waulking songs while they waulked, or fulled, wool with their hands. It helped then keep time together.

I love the contrapuntal sections in the intro and outro. It's my favorite texture in the piece, if u dont count the heterophonic instrumental, obviously. #GCSEMusic

I am no linguist but I think there is something inherently haunting about Gaelic / Gallic. This is a great track.

When you do GCSE Music and this comment makes you uncomfortable
@spentacle7 жыл бұрын
Why? It is a form of work song used by the women of the Hebrides when they gather round a table and waulk, or work, the newly woven tweed fabric in a group.
@OnumLCT7 жыл бұрын
We need to know that for our exam

Thumbs if you're watching this for music GCSE
@KeshHarp14 жыл бұрын
A gentle reminder..it's not a Skywalking song...the song is in the style of singing whilst 'waulking', working at wool to make it ready to spin and weave...and from the Isle of Skye. and this version is with sung with instruments as most waulking songs are 'puirt a bhuil' ( mouth music ) sung acapella. Also, waulking songs are usually far more lively and up-tempo...all that said, Karen is a right beauty with a voice touched by Heaven.

@domhessey19651 course she does. Have you heard her other songs?
@spentacle14 жыл бұрын
@KeshHarp Eh? Surely the tweed is waulked AFTER it is woven. However, I wish we could MAKE people who put up inaccurate titles see the comments and act on them. This title has been bugging me for a while.
@beanielala199612 жыл бұрын
@VeteranGoblin I do listen to it anyway because it's beautiful, but I came across it because of GCSE.

@VeteranGoblin I have quite a diverse taste in music but i'd still rather not be doing this song for GCSE. I'd find myself getting annoyed of the song pretty quickley (no disrespect to fans!)
