Ok so I put this video up on my new second channel and it has gotten 38 views so far and I am probably 4 of them... So change of plans. Since these topics discussed during IAE are so important I will release these vids here on the main channel so we can actually talk about it and use it as a way to inform users who like this style of content to subscribe to that channel. The rock paper scissors solution is the best for game balance. Also each category could kill the other in the same category Big ships = Rocks (Large+) bombers = Paper Fighter = Scissors Big ships (rock) and their turrets should absolutely wreck fighters. (Tie weapon range and velocity to powerplant size!) rock can act as blunt instrument**Vulnerability:** Slow speed Bombers (paper) can come in with size 7+ weapons at long range or launch a wave/wall of torps to kill rock. **Vulnerability:** medium speed horrible maneuverability (They like to go in straight lines) Fighters (Scissors) are high speed to intercept bombers and are far more maneuverable so that bombers can't really fight back and must retreat. **Vulnerability:** Short range and no armor/low HP

I’m kinda surprised you didn’t notice the 2 times that the MISC Fortune was name dropped! Beyond that though, I feel like you have a very reasonable take on a lot of this stuff. It’s nice to hear them having actual plans for features like Hologlobes and support ships, and hope that they’ll actually work on making all of that a reality.

@45:55 That guy is Jax McCleary and that part is from the video Star Citizen - Galactic Gear Reviews the Origin M50 at about the 0x46 - 0x47. I've been trying to tinfoil hat this MISC Fortune teaser since I saw it. Based on the order things popped up, my best guess is the vulture means drake day, the cameo from Jax is Origin day, so we can expect something about the Fortune after that or that on drake day we will get more info about the Fortune during episode 2 of the IAE show. The stormwhalls are from Mahli Goes To Orison: Part 2 which could be either an teaser to seeing those or siege of orison returning. All tinfoil hat stuff for sure, but thought I would document my crazy somewhere.

The Guardian is a different ship/variant than the silhouette you where referencing JC showed the name Guardian and and confirmed it would release this year then went on to show the next set of mystery ships that would be coming I don't understand why people are not understanding this.

@rooster1012 I agree that people are confusing the yellow and blue silhouettes. Mirai guardian is a yellow ship silhouette 2953 that they already showed at citizen con. The new blue silhouette that Sub is comparing too is either a new ship or variant of the guardian. Maybe Sub was just trying to make sure it wasn't the newer blur ship then.

I absolutely enjoy CIG's approach to cap ship gameplay, dog fighters shouldn't have any chance to take on an idris/polaris, and polaris should have help to even tackle an idris. just as an idris has no chance to take on a jav..

On the topic about the social element and how people will join up, there's a simple way to drive this and they already have it baked in with the reputation system: factions. When you're in the verse and your allegiance is setup, you will have the various groups that you're on good terms to operate with for contracts. Using that system, there will likely be big ship events that will have incentives for both sides. So say you normally take part in the CDF and help UEE. There's an event that kicks off asking you to fight some alien invaders of a protected system on the side of the UEE. On the opposite side, this alien faction does business with certain other systems or has allegiance with pirates, so anyone who has those contract reputations can jump into the game play for the opposite side. Suddenly something that started as PvE turns into an actual PvP event. Where the key here will matter, is regulating the number of certain ships permitted to show up to these events. You don't want to prevent anyone from joining the event if they wish to be a part of it. However, you also don't want to have everyone show up in the same ship, the same class of ship, or have one side overpowered with too many ships (then again maybe you do?). In my opinion, they need to figure out a way to create fleet limitations. I've seen this done two ways in other genre of games: Traditional FPS style fire team / squad will have limiting slots for a type of role. The way this would look in SC would be like, you have have 3 heavy fighters, 6 medium fighters, 10 light fighters, 1 capital, 2 corvette etc. that are permitted to register for the event. When someone accepts the contract, they are either onboard (shared with the person who took the contract) or they are bringing their own ship to the fight and registering its class. Side note, this type of breakdown would allow you give out different levels of payout for the type of ship one brings to the fight, as well as based on how many crew members they are sharing with type of thing. (contract + X for every shared contract to an active member of your crew) The other method, and what I think will lead to more dynamic fights (and thus what CIG will likely choose): the world of tanks (WoT) / war thunder (WT) method. These systems basically assign a point classification to every level of ship, similar to the way chess gives points rated to each type of piece. The difference is that chess has a regulated setup every game (same amount of pieces and points), whereas games like WoT or WT basically say this "fight is X amount of points", and then the collection of ships add to the point total. As long as that point total is under the point amount for the type of fight, the ship and the diversity of them can attend the fight. What will be further interesting is if CIG will allow rogue factions to get involved unrelated to the event contracts? Like if a gang of scavengers or pirates were around the area when a battle takes place, will they be permitted to jump in and just start attacking anyone they want? Or perhaps they will just wait to steal things from the battlefield when both sides are distracted in their engagement? I imagine the answer is yes, but its possible CIG might want to limit outside interference into these events, to prevent clan / guild ally intervention getting out of hand. Still, gameplay that might not be here for another 3-4 years at least lol. We're getting better though!

I think the preview from last year is this Guardian we're seeing now, and the new preview from this year is a racing variant with different shaped wings (more aerodynamic?), mostly due to the wing differences we see between the Fury and Fury LX. Then from leak data, we also know there is a 'Qi' variant that's probably more like the one we see here, but with one S5 hardpoint swapped to a bespoke QED. I'd expect the racing variant to be similar to a 350r in that the interior is smaller/limited and it uses the space for larger fuel stores, maybe for long-range or endurance racing.

They have said there is 2 variant of Guardian one is heavy fighter with 2 gun and then another with 1 which is more interdiction I believe

@19:02 this topic of “what capital combat should look like” is confusing for a lot of people. The thing is, if this game is trying to have “fleet dynamics” they need to understand how a fleet with these capabilities would even work. Looking at history, the reason fighters are so prevalent and important is because they are in fact the most dangerous part of the fleet itself. They carry weapons that can destroy large ships, and they are also the best option for destroying other fighters. Captial ships may in their own right be better at destroying another large ship with the larger guns/ missiles that it would have, but the amount of firepower and precision that fighters bring to the table is hard to beat. In top of that, just like how it’s been since ww2, a competent admiral would keep his fleet at a distance and engage with fighters rather than committing the whole fleet, if possible. Fighters should remain extremely dangerous. PDC should be easily penetrated by high volume strikes/ electronic warfare jamming the PDC.

This is a very difficult topic to go through actually because what they are trying to emulate does not have historic precedent. There was no world in which gunships stood next to carriers and where not vastly outclassed by said carriers. The only reason gunships existed next to carriers in World War II is because carriers where brand new and everyone still HAD gunships, and for many purposes such gunships where simply... good enough, and well, they where already paid for. And sides, you can now mount more AA to your fleet to keep next to your carriers for defense against the enemy's carriers. But carriers where the queens of the ocean the moment they set foot on it. Then missiles came and brought this entire conversation a second time, only to essentially settle onto "well, why don't we mount missiles to our fighters". But all of this is precedented on one crucial fundamental factor of the warship-fighter dynamic that just does not exist in space: Fighters, in a wet navy context, are stronger and nimbler, not because they are smaller or somesuch, but because they are fundamentally passing through a different domain. They are capable of three-dimensional manouvering, and manouver through very thin air, where ships have to deal with very viscous water. This simply inherently brings advantages that do not exist in such inherentness in space, because everyone is in the same domain. In that way, fighters in star citizen are more comparable perhaps to patrol- and torpedo boats then true fighters in a wet navy context - and yea, patrol boats and lone torpedo boats weren't exactly much of a threat to a prepared capital ship.

This kinda stuff is why the social features are needed and why Mercenary will be a very important job title in the future. If a smaller Org decides we can't afford a capital ship so we are going to take one. Cool. Title to put out that APB for boarding soldiers or fighter squads or whatever. They hope that mess all works out. And at least when it fails you can pay all your debts from salvaging your failure. And influencer lady is the one that was trapped on Orison during the Siege of Orison preview videos. So looks like she is still in Orison.

The silhouette is not the Guardian. In the silhouette on the bottom starboard "arm" you can see a little curled fin (?). There is no similar fin on the Guardian on that arm and there are several good shots of that arm. You also can't see the large engine pods on the silhouette. Here's my theory. Mirai is MISC's alien-inspired line of ships right? So what inspired the Fury and Guardian? My guess is the silhouetted ship - it's the alien original.

I think capital ship gameplay is dead in the water until they introduce effective AI blades and NPCs. No way you'll get enough of a player base to man the bowels of a capital ship day in and day out. Not long term. Not consistently. I mean every one of them pledged their own spaceship to be their own captain. Now CIG thinks you'll have a 20:1 ratio of bowel workers to every 1 fun position on a capital ship? I mean I'll do it a couple times for kicks. But no more

NPCs will be post 1.0. We need social features. You have no idea what you are talking about. You talk about shady business practices well if they go hack on this type of gameplay they will have shat on EVERYONE who has backed the game up until recently. It is not there fault that people fund an open development game and then don't educate themselves on the vision. This isn't what MILLIONS of people paid for. Your not even educated on engineering. Dude you just have no idea about the endgame goal. That's not 100% your fault. But educate before you speculate.

@@SubliminaLstv What does this post have to do with shady business practices? Although I 100% agree with you that they've been very shady the last 18 months or so. Surprised you're recognizing it. Regardless I know what all of that is. Engineering? Jesus dude they've been talking about engineering forever. Plus individually controlling your subsystems like life support per room, gravity, etc, etc, etc. I'm telling you it's not sustainable on a ship the size of a Polaris let alone an Idris or Javelin. No one is going to sign up to live on your Javelin long term to just to wait around for some fuse to change or some component to fix while you make all the decisions. That is going to have to be NPCs in the long run. But the way Chris Roberts is talking about the recurring cost of NPCs that's going to be very difficult too. So either something drastic changes. Or capital ships are a fun every once in a while thing.
