Look, if you WANT a game to feel like it was programmed in 1988, then MM is your jam, but you also have thousands of games already with that system.

So , what I get from this is, whatever flight system we end up with will be called "master modes". That way certain people, who will not be named, don't have to backpedal. All they need to do now is make the button that changes the mode type go away....

Master mode is just a band-aid on top of many layers of band-aids, player should choose to slow down during combat NOT being forced to, there are much better ways to deal with jousting style combat, for example: sync top speed with the engine power input when you above SCM, you wanna go 100% top speed you need to reduce shield and guns in order to max 100% engine power or reduce aim assist when you go faster than SCM, forcing players to choose between two modes feels like a pvp on/off switch in those Korean MMOs, it’s not freedom
@kps393Ай бұрын
I agree that players learning how to dogfight is the answer to jousting.

Basically is that master modes are being renamed to operation modes, and just switches between shields and QTD, speeds are being normalized between the modes and like wise when landing gear are down you won't get speed dumped. If I understood, to me it sounded like they are bringing the base SCM speed up a tiny bit, then you have standard after burner, then finally you get QT boost and the benefit is that its slow enough to control and when you stop, you can full stop and not have to t&b to slow down. Now they are saying you can have weapons in QTB, I would assume this is so you might catch someone (or defend) that wants to QTB away or have weapons immediately available when you stop QTB. As for the crafting tiers, it sounds like it will effect how fast and efficient QTB will be as you are likely going to use QTB for majority of travel due to viability/availability of QT waypoints, with the major influence being on the profession and typical distance traveled per mission. When it comes to the crafting, it feels like crafting has to come with the new insurance scheme, specifically for the tier 2 insurance that covers components; things to consider here, insurance would only cover cost minus wear and tear, which makes player market value a consideration or just flat loss - the possibility though, is that players that want proper insurance coverage would need to purchase crafted items through player market places (player bases, player stations, the BMM, and Kraken privateer) so the value can be tracked- The next consideration is the "warranty", which I don't believe this would cover components, so crafting would only have value return and this would have to be needed to keep player markets active and viable. To cover player scams, the ROI for the player would have to be nil, have the player market prices set/standardized by the game economy, or have a system to detect and ban people for insurance scams. I've only been awake for 3 hours and have nothing to do, to typing it is.

Just do static markets, like rust, and have inventory advertised globally. If someone wants something, but doesn't want to go pick it up, then have delivery services either player or NPC, or have holding services or trading services on planets that will hold the items or sell them on consignment.

Subliminal mentioned that in dying in Eve, he learned little by little what to avoid doing in order to not die. For those new to Star Citizen, I figured I would offer what I've learned from just a few of my own many, _many_ similar experiences in dying in this game: - Walking on the surface of a planet or moon can cause you to fall into that planet or moon, leading to your death. So try not to walk on the surface of planets or moons. (It's the "The Planet is Lava" game loop.) - Getting out of a bed before the floor assets load into the game can cause you to fall through the floor and into the planet. So try to look around and make sure assets are fully loaded into the game before pressing "y". (It's the "Schrödinger's Floor" game loop.) - Walking down stairs can cause you to trip and die, so try to avoid walking down stairs. (It's the "Too Many Medpens Gives You Osteoporosis" game loop.) - Being on a train when you are arriving or leaving a station - and a ghost train from a parallel universe is present - can cause you to clip through and fall into the planet and die. So avoid taking the train when the bridges between universes are thin. (It's the "Everettian Train" game loop.) - Ships can randomly bounce and jitter, even when simply resting on a static hangar floor while being powered off (it's especially dangerous when the hangar elevator actually _is_ moving). Walking nearby your ship (let alone underneath it) when it starts jittering can cause it to kill you via blunt force trauma. So, avoid walking near ships as much as is possible. (It's the "My Ship is a Pips Energy Junkie" game loop.) - Getting on an elevator when there are a bunch of other people also trying to get on said elevator at the same time can cause you to clip through the elevator walls and fall through the floor or planet/moon surface, leading to your death. Avoid other players on elevators like the plague. (It's the "Macroscopic Fermionic Tunneling" game loop.) NB: if multiple players on an elevator are moving around a lot it will increase the expectation values of higher energy levels of the elevator-players system, increasing the likelihood that tunneling will occur. - Getting out of your seat during quantum travel can cause you to be teleported through your ship and left floating behind in the vast openness of empty space. In such an event if no one comes to rescue you, you will die. So, only walk around during quantum if you're feeling really adventurous. (It's the "Heisenberg Uncertainty Drive" game loop.) NB: if a Cutty just so happens to fly into you while you're out on a "floating in the vast openness of empty space" adventure, it will probably pick you up (no towel needed). The statistical likelihood of this actually happening to you, though, is abysmally small. Because space is big. (You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space...) - Bed logging can cause you to, upon logging back in, spawn with your ship at the center of the Stanton sun. One would think that this is a death sentence and hence backspace, but this is actually a rare and fortunate game feature. You can fly out of the sun without dying, and there is usually an excellent ship graveyard there for the looting. So try to bed log in a ship with a large cargo hold and have a MaxLift Tractor Beam on your ship at all times, just in case you get to be so lucky as to spawn in the sun. (It's the "Hollow Sun Theory" game loop.) There are many other such experiences that one typically encounters and could relate, but I'll let others do so should they feel so inclined.

@SubliminaLstv Yeah, I don't know if there is really anything out there that one _can_ compare Star Citizen to... :) Even though I claimed that this was aimed at new players, it was more of a nostalgia piece for those of us who - over the many years - have seen the wrong side of a surface normal a time or two before. Fond memories...

MM at present, makes all flying feel way clunkier and slower. Im no pvp sweat, but I do enjoy being able to fly quicker in combat, decoupled, and be able to take shots all around. Slowing down combat just made it feel worse, in some ships, granted.
@uddekАй бұрын
MM sucks. I want to be able to travel at my old 1250m/s with my shields up in my Vulture through asteroid belts looking for things to find salvage. There's no reason why I shouldn't be able to do that. Take my weapons off. I'm never going to engage in dogfighting in a fkn Vulture. I need speed and shields. If this MM2.0 enables that's, great. If not, it's another failure.

I had no idea what they said. They sounded like the swedist chief from the muppets, I couldn't figure it out. Also, We know what Crafting looks like for ship performance, Elite Dangerous has this system, and it borked that game hard when it came out.
@uddekАй бұрын
MM didn't NOT make the game better, net/net. The game is far more than dogfighting. For slow pilots, MM may have made dogfighting (one slice of the gameplay) better at the cost of dogfighting enjoyment for skilled pilots and (more importantly) for pilots who do literally anything other than dogfighting. So, you can critique other people's opnions, but know you're much more incorrect than they are.

It sounds like you will have to power on your quant drive to get the increase in speed. It should be a choice of weapons OR shield when boosting, IMO Faster fighters will screw over mutlicrew ships even more. Can we please get a huge buff to turrets. Fighters should not be able to kite HHs...
@Elias.BarneyАй бұрын
started playing 3 weeks ago. the master modes are really dumb. they feel like arbitrary speed breaks the only thing that should limit your speed is your acceleration and then the quantum mode. flying at 1500 scm makes sense. the game is space not ww2 why make it something its not. i dont get it....
@toymaker3474Ай бұрын
i would say go back to to old 1000kph + speeds . make the planets 2x the size. add auto aim to all turrets, if a player jumps in the turret boost the auto aim so u can hit someone at 8km.

Will we be able to have combat faster than 250m/s ? if it's around 600/700ms, that's good enough, if not, well MM is still here but with just a few tweaks.
@SubliminaLstvАй бұрын
What does speed have to do with MM?
@amineabdzАй бұрын
@SubliminaLstv I hate switching modes to be honest, but what I hate the most is the arbitrary speed wall and how immersion breaking it is. I agree that combat in the previous model was too fast, but with MM, it's waaay too slow and I think that most people felt that even when combat was too fast and had issues, you could do stuff when you have a large speed range, which was fun, most of the time it meant jousting, but when it wasn't jousting it was fun for most players. With MM, I can only describe it as clunky, it feels too limited, I think that increasing SCM to around 700m/s will do wonders.

They can't because they sold access to the PU as part of their packages. If they do that, they will be get lawsuits. They can (and probably will) make a membership mind you. One that gives you perks or something. But they will not "require" you to have a membership after they sold you the PU as part of some pledge packages.
@RycaveАй бұрын
@ there is no way in mind that the game will work without membership. They will have the ongoing server costs and by the sounds so much development is being said to be after 1.0, not just ships stuck in concept for nearly 20 years but major game play loops such as touring. When the game is finally released some people might still by ships because time vs money, but most people wont. They will need some funding, so they will either force everyone onto subscription like World of Warcraft or, they will lock major stuff behind a subscription to incentive it like Runescape. At the moment they are still releasing more ships, than features and more news ships than old concepts

Didn't touch the game that much after trying/using MM for quite some time. Star Citizen was supposed to be Spatial Exploration, Boarding other ships, different kind depending of the ship (size, power, role). Now, it is just a dog fight game where all ships whatever they are supposed to do, are limitated through the scope of the fighting ability. To say the least, it is about smoothen the fight (as they did many times, the ION, the weaponery, and so on), but it did make the game too sleek as well. A game without pro&con trades intuitively and not through "Modes"... that's not quite the neat experience. No ship has proper identity anymore. It has all nice cover and design from their own, but the gameplay is now "this mode or this mode?", the handling specificities of each ship, is not even a topic anymore after that...
@callsigngrimdollАй бұрын
They have repeatedly stated that they are working (slowly) toward ship specialization. But people ignore that and focus on the now and how long it's taking. Alpha testers want it now, CIG wants it right. They are building it piece by tiny piece regardless of what the alpha testers want.

This presentation was pretty awful. If I was being cynical I would say CIG came up with this idea a few weeks ago, during a brainstorming session. Then the people that were in that session made this presentation, but forgot to check if any of it made sense to someone that hadn't actually been in on the brainstorming session. There are so many logical steps missing to what they are saying, and so many open questions that can make or break this proposed plan.
