Great ideas! I would like to push back on one point: the idea of BMI. Here's my quandary : I am 73, very healthy, largely plant based diet, exercise almost daily. I am a big believe in strength training to mitigate sarcopenia. I maintain a high level of strength, ie muscle mass. That fact puts my BMI in the overweight range, even though I do not have a "beer belly", etc.

There a difference between having plant based fat possiblly from adding oils and animals fat. Your still healthier then someone who would eat eggs, that the animal fat,you dont want. The fat can come off,yu just eat some junk food and continue eating plant based, lose a few pounds a weeks, just cut your portions and stay active, but eat only when you are hungry.

This is a great idea! Another idea is we need to figure out a way to reverse the business model for medicine. Right now the big bucks are made on treatments and big problems and doctors are basically incentivized to not care about prevention. They don't make much money if they prevent something. We need to change that so they somehow getting paid more for that than for treatments. Right now from a financial standpoint, my dentist for example wants my teeth to have problems, their whole livelihood and industry is dependent on that. I'm sure she has good non financial intentions but the financial conflict of interest in medicine is just too great (it also makes me respect the plant based people that much more for finding a way out).

Where des one submit questions to Dr. Klaper? I have two: 1) What are the dangers or concerns of using enemas? and 2) I eat reconstituted wakame about once a week. Can this be considered a dark leafy green?

I don’t think that tax reductions based on health metrics would be very effective. Most people at the grocery store wouldn’t be thinking about their yearly visit to the pharmacy to get their certificates of low cholesterol to pay 5% less. Klaper’s last approach is much more realistic. What really needs to happen is stop subsidizing products that harm the individual and the society (not to mention the animals, who are always out of the equation) and make the companies pay for the externalities that they are causing (environmental and health issues that translate to costs of taxpayers money). Those subsidies could be used instead to create incentives and programs for them to transition to plant agriculture. If the consumer could see the real price animal products have (red meat in particular), many would cut a lot on them.

Tax reduction would definately work, because I would be paying 5% less or 10% for under 100n

Sure seems like Health Insurance Companies and Medicare would be receptive to a WFPB vegan message. It would save them money on health care costs. This could off set the lobbying by food manufacturers. Maybe educating health Insurance Companies and Medicare administrators should be a priority. Health Insurance companies might even push doctors to take nutrition more seriously by paying for nutrition counseling of patients.

Our nutrition science "leaders" are naive about the politics & marketing of meat & dairy. I sampled Chipotle's "vegan bowl" and was shocked on two levels...first, I noticed most of the crew is obese. And the most obese stood behind the trays of fatty meats and ask each customer "what protein do you want." Why aren't the plant-based gurus making an issue of this? They give their fellow doctors & food processors a pass claiming they don't understand nutrition. They understand nutrition. Maybe it's the plant-based group who doesn't understand greed? Stop preaching to the choir and campaign against the meat & dairy and nutritional ignorance hustlers. They are the ones dumbing down America right under our noses. Polite doesn't work when the opposition is a pack of sociopaths.

Health care costs are out of control. Going vegan can save money, pain and suffering from disease. Lower your chance of high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer by going vegan. Hospitals, doctors offices and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided not places that contribute to disease and obesity. It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care. Focus should be on food choices.

Most Biden supporters love their meat & dairy and bottled oil & processed carbs. Both political parties are governed by the meat & dairy industries, along with junk food processors, and the drug & medical industries. Passive plant-based doctors change nothing. Complain about local TV & radio for thriving on advertising money paid to mislead their audience. They look the other way choosing profit over the community's health and understanding of nutrition.

People are after the money so much because of their sickness, the food society is sticking in our face is why we got people with eating disorders and sickness. People who are healthy live with less, they dont need so much money because they understand health. People that have gotten sick over time live in denial, and they just get worse, their mental health is worsening their fear is worse they become bitter. They have mental illness and disorders because the food is distorting their brain and sense of reality so they fear and live in a illusion, they basically are living in a lie and they know it after living for so long but they just dont wanna make themselves look wrong about the way they have been living so they continue to lie and tell others they are wrong about eating healthy, well whats healthy to them? They are fat and sick and they tell you whats good for you,no thanks, plant based lifestyle is a good way of living.
