Never heard of anything about this movie as a kid until i found it at a video store on vhs. Intstantly fell in love with it. I had already actually had a little experience in the art form so the movie really hit home for me. About 3 years later i actually got to meat Al Dacoscos (Marks Dad)in vegas, for the gathering of eagles convention in i think 2001-2002. Very nice man with tons of knowledge. I was super excited to meet someone that close to Mark. Would really love to meet him one day and tell him how much of an impact him and this movie had on my life. Great interview can't wait to the next one!!!! Thanks David!!!!

when I saw the movie I was mesmerized and wanted to start capoeira, after training tae kwon do and pencak silat for 10 years I needed something new. I moved to the other side of the Netherlands just for capoeira and I started in 1999. I have traveled all around the world because of Capoeira. 10 years ago I sent Mark a message and thanked him for introducing me to this amazing art and he replied that he was proud of doing capoeira because of him. and told me to keep going and doing what I do. 24 years later and I still practice and play capoeira, although there aren't a lot of groups in Thailand I didn't stop and also taught Thai students. Now I am back in the Netherlands, so I can start practicing whenever I want at various groups. Thanks David for this amazing interview. you rock as always. AXE

Awesome interview yet again Viking Samurai, thank you also to Mestre Amen Santo, for his personal insight into how Only The Strong came about, also as to how he began his Capoeira training, back in his youth as a child. Looking forward to the next interview video of course 🥋🇲🇽🇦🇺🙏✝️.

It's actually derived from N'Golo from Angola in Africa. It was banned like mestre stated along with stick fighting and many other African martial arts. They disguised N'golo/Engolo which became Capoeria as a dance. They also have another takedown grappling base form that went along with it. My mestre had it in his system from his mestre. Trying to think of the name. Starts with a "B" but it's pretty sweet. There is a fighter in the ufc from Brazil in the MW division uses capoeria effectively. Won many of his mma pro fights for many who claim styles don't work. Its always on the practitioner. Great interview as always VS! Will be looking for PTII...lol

Such a excellent part 2 interview with Mestre Amen Santo. It's very interesting on how Santo meet and worked with Mark. His passion for caporia is such amazing. Only The Strong is a classic movie. Wish Mestre Amen Santo could have gotten more camera time on the movie. I pray we get Only The Strong blu ray soon.

Viking Samurai is the BEST channel of its kind, for sure!! Only he has interviews with guys like Don Wilson, Marc Damascus, Amen Santo, and other great, if obscure, underrated martial artists and B action stars!! He always has insightful questions and I like how he always lets them answer however they want and in their own words. He doesn't try to heavily "platform" the conversation and doesn't restrict them to two minute answers, or anything. GREAT job!! Keep up the awesome work!!

This isn't the only Capoeira movie though. There is a Brazilian Capoeira movie called "Besouro". Edit: it is a 2009 movie called "The Assailant" in English.

Thank you! I've been trying to find more full on Capoeira movies. I found this movie, but I forgot the name. The only thing I kind of remembered that it was about an afro-Brazilian slave. (Maybe based on the origins of Capoeira?) *But, how the hell hasn't Lateef Crowder not been utilized more for lead actor roles in Martial Arts films!?!?*
@kbwablzomhebkpumjiwsoypp9220 Жыл бұрын
@@Brooklyn_Bleek yes. The movie is set during the slavery period. This is a sort of epic about the Capoeira origin, I am not a fan of it though as I don't like the fantasy elements in it. I think the most interesting period of Capoeira history was in the 19th century or early 20th century in Rio. Indeed he should have been in more movies. The truth is that most directors don't know much about Capoeira or they might not see much potential in it like they used to see in Karate and Kung Fu. Anyway, the time of martial arts movies has passed. In Brazil there are a lot of documentaries about Capoeira, but the country has no tradition of martial arts movies, I think "Besouro" must be the only one of that genre.

A few of them that actor is Lateef Crowder. An excellent capoeria mestre severely underrated and actor. He's in several movies MJWs Falcon Rising, Undisputed 3 which is one the best along with the first two. The Assailant, The Quest who actually has his mestre doing capoeria in there. Just to name some other's. Red Sun Rising with Don the Dragon had a capoerist in there as well. Just a minor role though.

@VikingSamurai Жыл бұрын
Hey Pereira, love your enthusiasm and passion for Only The Strong, but there's an issue what writer Luis Esteban explained to me in the past. Since the team already has so many great ideas and have been working on continuing the series, they really don't want anyone to send them anything bc then one of the people who sent them a script, idea, etc, could try and come back and claim their idea(s) was taken from them, then it could just be a potential legal headache.
