Never regret the decisions you made because no one knew which was the best. This is told to you by an old man who has lived through many experiences and has achieved successes and failures. And the best of my life is when I loved and was loved. Now, in the fall of my life, I only live on memories. Very good memories, by the way.

I was sitting in a bar on Christmas Eve many, many years ago by myself. It was around 10pm and the place was full of people mingling, I was the only one sitting alone. This song came on. I remember leaving the bar while walking through fresh snow to my house, thinking about the song. It was such a surreal experience. I was 26. Now I'm...old.

A lot of immortal songs came 1984. Incredible this song will be 40 years old 2024. Amazing!
@user-en9qd5nx8w3 ай бұрын
I was 13 in 1984, 40 years ago, wow. Makes me think what was 40 years before 1984, that would be 1944. I think often that this last 40 years, not too much has changed compared to the 40 years from 1944 to 1984. Music, fashion, etc changed drastically from 1944 to 1984, I would say much more so than from 1984 to 2024. People are still wearing blue jeans, t-shirts, and listening to synth music.
@WallyPyneoil3 ай бұрын
@@user-en9qd5nx8w The technology has transformed everything since 1984 though. And, musically, you miss out the house and dance scenes of the mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s which have been tremendously influential. People were wearing jeans and T-shirts in the 1950s and the first flickerings of the synth scene, which rose to giddy heights in the 1980s, were first felt in the 1960s. The platform shoes, kipper ties and flared trousers of the 1960s and 1970s were actually revivals of 1930s and 1940s fashions. Many things you think were fresh and new in the decades before 1984 were not. I was in my mid-20s in 1984. Believe me, things have changed drastically.

This song will always be relevant. Who doesn't want to be forever young? Young people reading this, savor every moment. Treat people right. Be happy. No matter how hard it is, try to find a bright side. No point in living a depressing life, if you choose to keep living then choose to be happy and savor every moment.

I was 20 when this song was released. It’s timeless but oh how I don’t know where actual time has gone to. So many twists and turns, trials and tribulations, good and bad times, regrets…and yet other things I wouldn’t change whatsoever. Maybe it’s best that we can’t predict our futures because we have to learn from our mistakes so that we can grow but my mom is 83 YO now and, if there’s anyone in my life that could stay forever young, I would wish it to be her, as well as my daughter. I lost my paternal grandmother at 95 YO in 2016 and my maternal grandmother at 98 1/2 YO in 2018. Lost my dad at 78 YO in 2019. For as long as they really did live, it still wasn’t long enough. It was both heartbreaking and heartwarming to take care of them…but an absolute honor. Something I have no regrets about even though it was very difficult, at times. Also lost my father-in-law at 57 YO in 2011. I sure wish they could’ve all remained forever young and wish the same for other dear loved ones and friends that meant so much to me and always will until my last breath. I wish the same for others who have also lost those that dearly meant so very much. As another commenter said…we have to remain in trying to be young at heart. That can sometimes be the key to longevity.
@amazd76 ай бұрын
But thankfully there's a hope of living forever young.
Back in 2016 when my dad was hospitalized he was listening to this song, he then told me "do you know this song ? I want it to be played at my funeral". Few weeks later "Forever Young" became one of this song i cannot listen without crying. I miss you dad.

Being young is 100% better than getting up in years. But love this song so beautiful thank you for uploading it. I sold my 5,000-record album collection some years back. I now go to internet to listen to music instead of owning bunch of CD's and LP's these days. I did waste lot of money on Music over $15,000.00 maybe even more. But we buy what we love. I hope all are happy and grateful in their life's, wars come and go but to be peaceful thankful within is priceless.

My daughter Rebekha passed 21 months ago. I heard this song for the first time yesterday on a random Spotify play. Rebekha will be forever young in my heart and. those who love her particulary her children. If you are a young person reading this remember that life is beautiful and there is a world of great people for you to meet. Be kind in your words. and in. your deeds; do no harm for no reason and be at peace with yourself.

This song has been playing on repeat in my head after I just lost a dear old friend last night 9/13/2021. He was 50 and we grew up together. I hadn't seen him in some 25 years until I paid a surprise visit to him in the hospital on August 27th. We had a great one-on-one visit, a visit meant to be and a reunion with 17 days to spare. I told my old friend I loved him and he said he loved me too. Rest in peace, Robert Nielsen (April 19, 1971-September 13, 2021). You will always be "Forever Young"❤

This song was released in Germany in 1984 during the cold war. it's about trying to make the best of life amid the fear and paranoia of a possible nuclear extintion. 36 years later the lyrics still hits me hard it´s giving me a feeling of anexiety and powerlessness….. the fragility of my existence and that one day i will be gone and fade away. i start thinking about the absurdity of life… the conflict between the human tendency to seek inherent value and meaning in life, and the human inability to find any in a purposeless, meaningless or chaotic and irrational universe…….

I've learned that a quote often heard uttered in military and other circles is in fact true, and was long before it became a famous movie line: "what we do in life, echoes in eternity". Each one of us does indeed make a difference - the world is not the same with us in it. Though our names might not be remembered, the effect we'll have on countless others (and the fact that we were here) will be. The only question is - will our overall effects be good ones, or bad? They definitely won't be neutral. Nothing really is.
