Capsule Hotels in Tokyo Japan are a unique aspect of Japanese culture. I had one night in between an apartment and a flight so I decided to go experience a capsule hotel first hand.
The Capsule Hotel Featured: Capsule Hotel Anshin Oyado Shinjuku
www.anshin-oya...
Price: One-night rates start at around $40USD
*Many capsule hotels in Tokyo are men only.
If you ever come to Japan, experiencing a capsule hotel (pod hotel) is one of the best things to do in Tokyo.

If capsule hotels came to the U.S. I'm certain it'll be destroyed. Americans aren't all that respectful of public spaces and I could already hear all the complaints about it being too small. :( But I do love the idea

Japanese capsule hotel looks way better than any normal hotel I've been to. The services and stuff it provides amazes me. Like you actually get stuff for free.. Just goes to show how the economy in Japan is above many other popular countries. Awesome video as always.

Japanese staff tends to care more about the service they provide rather than the money. I’ve been there before and when I asked for something, the staff freaking bolted off to get what I asked for. I was like 0.0

Not FREE, DIP SHIT! They charged it to his ROOM, he said. Japan is so expensive to live there, they shove most of their elderly out onto the street into the cold when they cant work anymore. Japan is/can be just as cold as anywhere else. Their homeless population is ALL ELDERLY.

I stayed at the first cabin kyobashi in Tokyo, it was an amazingly unique experience. I love it! It was what living on the death star would be like. The bathroom was like a day spa for sure. They had every kind of shower or bath you could want and free toiletries.

I’m honestly a big fan of the Japanese culture, architecture and just over all how things are done there. Iv always wanted to travel there from the United States but I don’t feel like I would get a full experience on some stuff and I say that cause I have a memorial tattoo for my great grandparents on my right forearm and shoulder so all these places that say no tattoos I wouldn’t be able to enjoy and many of them actually has cultural values that makes it worth visiting and seeing.

@cherryJ0lt

I’ve looked online for reviews of this specific hotel, and I’ve seen multiple tourists say that the hotel didn’t care about their tattoos. To be blunt, they probably only care when Japanese people have the traditional yakuza style tattoos, and aren’t even thinking about a white guy (or other non-Japanese, really) because they don’t mean the same thing. I’m not saying that’s true for every place, but it’s probably the case here, and likely in a lot of tourism heavy areas.

In Japanese hotels you typically remove your street clothing and wear their hotel clothes and shoes. Its partly hygiene (they sit on floor), partly hospitality to give you comfy clothes so you don't have to bring your change of clothing, and partly so as not to offend other guests with offensive/dirty/inappropriate clothing. Japanese culture is based on harmony within the group. This means not offending anyone. USA is exactly the opposite, and our culture is based on individuality, non-conformity, and to hell with everyone else.

Maybe... But have you slept on a bunk bed, on the bottom bunk, with the curtain closed? I have severe claustrophobia as well, but I have also had to sleep on the bottom bunk and if there is a curtain, I always close it for privacy... Never had an issue. This seems to be a similar type of atmosphere. The idea of the capsule is it's only for sleeping, so you don't really notice once your eyes are closed and your brain turns off. If you are staying awake and just sitting in the bed for some time before sleeping, it may help to turn the light off sometimes... Even if you're watching TV or playing on your phone, you don't notice the walls when it's dark.

I remember hearing about this idea years ago, so glad to see what became of it. Very nice. Always fascinating how well the Japanese are organized. Silence is of the utmost. How about a stack of 3 foot dia. Concrete pipe that's easy to wash with a firehose for the homeless here in the States. Make them work for their keep.

Why no tattoos in the tub?
@A_A610
@A_A610 6 жыл бұрын
Long standing association of tattoos with the yakuza (Japanese crime family), so it can be uncomfortable for some people to share intimate facilities like onsen with someone that likely has ties to shady organization. Tattoo bans were put into place to prevent yakuza from entering baths and provide peace of mind for everyone else. Some onsen are totally fine with tattoos, but the stigma is still pretty heavy.
