When you think about department stores, you think high-quality clothes, bags, brands, etc. But in Japan, you're also thinking high-quality top-notch food! Today I'm at the Mitsukoshi Department Store in Tokyo, and I'm getting everything [that I can carry ;)] that looks good.

The month in Tokyo this year cost me about 4000 Euro, that includes about 750 for the flight (which is decent compared to prices right now) and 800 for the hotel (I was lucky and found a really good and cheap one). But that's alot more than you actually need, I just brought alot so I can spend alot on food, Tsukiji, all the food courts, A5 Wagyu and so on.

Mitsukoshi is considered one of Japan's best (luxury) department store brands; the other is Takashimaya. Depending on where I am visiting, those are my two favorite "go-to" stores for shopping. The level of service and quality of merchandise cannot be found anywhere else in the world. As for the overall excellence and caliber of food in Japan, that is not surprising. Tokyo alone has more Michelin stars than Paris, London, and New York combined - but the most wonderful aspect of that, is the fact that one doesn't have to spend a fortune to experience such high quality. I do have to comment that you have one of the best appetites that I've ever seen. I can't believe the amount of food you consume. It's as if eating a "Thanksgiving meal" (when many people overeat) is commonplace for you. I actually feel satiated watching you eat. Thanks for the tips on what to look out for in the Mitsukoshi food floors on my next visit to Tokyo.
@staticcharm3808
@staticcharm3808 6 жыл бұрын
Terry Highwell You pay for it thought. Both are expensive as hell. And you actually have to spend a fortune. Tokyo is the most expensive city to shop and eat in the world. So man you are off. Also there is a lot of controversy as to why Japan gets so many Michelin stars. Michelin is heavily biased for French and Japanese cuisine and definitely overrates Japanese restaurants.

I actually have no desire to visit Japan. However, I admire their skills at creating amazing things to eat. Unlike the USA, where cheap and fast seems to be food creator's main goal, it seems that every business that makes food goes wayyy outta their way to create delicious masterpieces. From the vending machines to the gas stations to department stores to restaurants, everything presents as being wonderfully fresh and colorful and delicious.

Daniel Sullivan that literally has nothing to do with progress. Japan can be homogenous and still appreciate other cultures. In my opinion japanese culture is fine as it is and the only thing that needs work is their overworking part of culture, which is partly the reason why they're 20 years ahead of time.

anon Not really that expensive as you say it is. In Tokyo, yeah it's comparable to living in maybe a cheaper manhattan or cali. People have higher average earnings as well, and unlike americans, their food is generally healthier by far and you have a wide choice of aforementioned, healthy, and delicious food. The amount of food he bought, is probably $50 in the US.
