My stamping group and I do something like this. We call it "shopping our stash". At the beginning of each month each of us goes through her supplies and makes up a kit. This allows us to use what we already have AND limit what we use because we all discovered that, ironically having unlimited supplies actually gets in the way of creating. And I find I really like making my own kits because, unlike purchased kits, I love everything in MY kits. So yes, I think this is a great idea.

I'm super excited about this challenge. Mostly because I haven't really crafted since my husband passed away. I still continued to buy products for awhile, which was OK, seeing as I can no longer afford to buy things now. Though I love watching you, Gina K, and others, but you all always have everything new, which I can't afford. That discouraged me even more. So I think seeing you use what you already have, with be exciting, encouraging, and might give me the kick in the bim that I need. Thank you so much! 🤗❤️

I usually start with much less as a basic choice, but then do not limit myself beyond that. A basic patterned paper selection, 3 or 4 stamp sets, and then all else is open to use. It is so FUNN to take bits and run with them. Enjoy your creative expression. You go, girl!

I agree with many of the other comments already posted. Many of us have so many supplies that sometimes we just don’t even know where to start and I think this is a great way to find our focus again. Also, I think it shows someone coming into card making that it is possible to only have a few supplies and still be able to make beautiful cards. Looking forward to the coming month with you Kristina!!

Fabulous challenge Kristina! ❤ I had to create a craft capsule of sorts when I travelled to see my Dad for two weeks last year. It was not easy to make the initial decisions on what to bring but it worked out great!! This year I am challenging myself to make more cards from card kit contents only vs mixing and matches (searching) for other things in my stash. Thank you so much for this playlist. 😊 I discovered it today and plan on watching all the videos in order. 👍🏼

You are amazing--you are not fooling around! This is such a brilliant idea. It's definitely overwhelming to choose between so many supplies. I always enjoy when I challenge myself to make something awesome out of a couple of random things I have laying around. Amazing how it's pretty much always do-able--proving that we don't need every single thing to create something amazing. I'm so impressed with the order and structure you have imposed within just a day or so.

I sincerely love this idea. I don't have a lot of space to put things after I've pulled them out, but while I'm still working on them and just need to set them aside, so having something curated like this could really help me, while also encouraging me to use the things I don't tend to pull out.

I've done something similar before but I just picked out 7 stamp sets and did a card a day. I had to pick 7 sets that I collected and didn't use. I think in February I'm going to do the same thing but do a card/project a week and combine it with your idea of using just a few supplies. Maybe I'll break out my Dr. PH Martin watercolors that I've never used lol This is a really great idea and I'm excited to see what you come up with!

WOOHOO! I LOVE THIS IDEA, Kristina! MANY of us can be SO OVERWHELMED with ALL of the wonderful supplies we own~~~and THIS FOCUS for a month is a PERFECT WAY to “really dig in AND USE what we have”!! Limiting in some areas is a terrific thought as well, be it inks, colored pencils, watercolors, images, stencils, etc~~~I LOVE IT and I’m VERY EXCITED to see what YOU do as well as TRY SOME of it myself! YAY! I’m a very “seasonal” stamper/cardmaker so THIS FORMAT seems to “fit in PERFECTLY with my style”....but in a better organized fashion! Whatever happens, I KNOW your creations will be wonderful (hope mine are, too!) and WE’LL ALL LEARN A LOT! Let’s get started Lady! Have a FABULOUS DAY w/HUGS from Madison, WI!! :-))

I love this idea. I am so overwhelmed by all the supplies that I own, I feel shame and guilt for buying new things without having used the old. I've been doing something similar recently: I choose a theme for the month (Ex: January was winter / snow) and put all those stamp sets, embossing folders, stencils, etc. into a box and I choose from those for my cards. I love your idea of also choosing seldom used products such as color mediums, embellishments, and tools. THANKS for encouraging us to USE what we HAVE and be grateful for those things we've been blessed with. You are a great inspiration!

I love your comment about getting to know your supplies. I jumped into card making about a year and a half ago. I've spent lots of time collecting all the things - stamps, dies, inks, paints, tools - in all the colors. And when I go to make a card I get stressed out because I am overwhelmed with ideas and techniques and I don't really "know" my supplies. This is an awesome idea - spend a few weeks just using a limited number of things - and get really comfortable with them. Great inspirations!!

Very interesting concept, Kristina. My cardmaking style has been slowly evolving to a similar process. I have been doing something like capsuling with my holiday cards, pulling a selection of stamps, dies and accessories, and putting them in an open box for the current holiday. Although I started out making multiples of the same card, which was becoming boring, I soon started to create variations. The result was that the experience was probably more creative, relaxing and fun than if I had not pulled a starter "capsule" of supplies. Thank you for giving us a springboard from which to start jumping! :)

I love this idea! Sometimes I get overwhelmed with too many choices on where to start so your idea of limiting supplies is a great challenge. It would be hard to select only 24 pencils or inks, but then again, colors can be layered to get new colors, so you may find you have a gazillion colors from which to choose. I’m looking forward to the next steps on this month’s journey!

Hi Kristina, I discovered this video 2 years late, in March 2022. I am going through a "minimalist card making" and "capsule crafting" phase now. I was also thinking of creating a blog series for a brand new card maker with a very limited budget and space. Your blog series on capsule crafting are excellent! Thank you for your lovely design ideas. I went to Michael's store this week and the paper crafting section was thoroughly picked clean. I asked the store cashier if the store was discontinuing the category, and was told they are not but they can't get any replacement supplies! So the minimal supply series will also be helpful after 2 years of Covid, when stores are running out of inventory. Happy crafting. Jennifer Y.

I love new ideas to challenge ourselves. Many have expressed that they bought products believing they were going to get to using them but never did. (Probably because the next new product came out!). I am there too! I think what I’ll do is pick a type of product and develop that over the month. I’ll choose limited colors and inks and stick to them. I have tons of birthdays every month and cards for our church that have to be produced so I may have to fluctuate some. But I think you have a marvelous plan that I can work with too. Over the summer I also found myself with the quandary of too many choices affecting my crafting experience. I noticed that I started falling into a rut; so I would choose one stamp set or die to create with. I tried to make 10-12 different cards. My rule was I could grab what I wanted to go with it but I had to make that item the star of the show and yes it helped. I really like your challenge it takes it a step further. I hope you continue this as a series.

I haven't made a card in 3 years mainly because my space is a mess but also because I have been focusing on other things in my life. I have been working on decluttering my house and my mind keeps going back to my crafting supplies. I am definitely more creative when I have less options and yet I always feel like I need more stuff so I can make the next card/page/project. I have more image stamps and some alpha dies and stamps for titles along with an old set of journalling stamps I haven't used in ages. ,. I have got most of my kit so far into a 12x12 box with a tray to store any embellishments, only my Big Shot does not fit!
