I drop this comment under so many Fisher vids and vids about the Atocha and the fleet. Mel is the sole reason I became navy diver certified back in 86 His story, trials and tribulations are the primary inspiration for me becoming a diver. Rest in peace, Mel. Today's the day.

Thank you-a forensic analysis is sometimes the best way to portray what happened, and yet there is so much more to the story.

I can't get enough of this stuff. Finally made it to the Keys after 40+ years of being on my bucket list. This past April. We went to both fisher museums. And the shop on Duval St. I have to get back again.

Went out to dry Tortuga's last week. Saw a salvage ship out there and got a warm fuzzy feeling.

@@atochatreasureadventures6030 I guess it’s safe to say the other stern castle big pile, is completely scattered and no “pile” is there anymore. And in the last 40 yrs has been just picking up the pieces.

You see small boats hunting gold right beyond the breakers in vero and ft Pierce all the time. Fisher owns all the keys contracts and has for decades.

AWESOME JOB. This is one of the MOST FASCINATING FACTS about the wreck, and I haven't seen it discussed anywhere else, don't even recall seeing anything about this when I visited the Key West Museum in October 2015. THANK YOU SID! (By the way, I had already purchased your book, looking to add to my reference collection on the wreck from 15 yrs ago when I bought my first coin from the wreck. Very much look forward to reading it when it arrives.)

Thanks- my problem is there is so much information about the wreck that I have to condense it so it doesn't get boring! I do cover more of this in my book...

Dan, Thanks for your kind words, appreciate it. Would also appreciate it if you would please post a review on Amazon. Did you get a copy of KT's "Coin of the Lost Galleons" book when you got your coin. It will help explain some of the history hidden in the markings. Syd Jones

Hey Syd! New subscriber here. Great layout and description of the events leading to final deposit areas..love it! I'm a land Treasure Hunter, but would love to dive on the Atocha!! Wouldn't that be a hoot..! Question: what percentage of the Atocha do you believe was carried away with the 2nd storm and not found as yet?
@atochatreasureadventures60302 жыл бұрын
Tom, KT here answering your question. As far as manifested goods; missing cannons, several hundred silver bars, chests of coins and what we would assume-a lot of personal gold. The Margarita had a lot more gold on her and she was salvaged 400 years ago. Of course, much of the gold was not manifested but personal "carry-on luggage" . Was the Atocha salvaged by others over the centuries, maybe, those who found her riches aren't telling.

So hard to tell. Definitely manifested material yet to be recovered but also untold amount of non- manifested artifacts. The search continues.

@@atochatreasureadventures6030 with the sophisticated sonar of today, I’m surprised more main pile wrecks haven’t been found lately. There’s hundreds of them out there. There’s gotta be more silver bar reefs out there somewhere.
