It was a neat ending, but it completely violated rules set up earlier in the film. Steve would not have appeared on the bench in the original timeline after staying in the past and changing what happened in the time between then and the present day. Per Hulk's earlier explanation, he would have created his own parallel timeline that didn't intersect with Sam and the rest sending the borrowed artifacts back to where they belonged; unless of course, the movie is trying to tell us that the exact same events happened in multiple parallel dimensions and we weren't actually witnessing the original MCU timeline, but one of the branching paths created by all the time travel shenanigans.

@La Catrina there is another way to perceive this. Our Steve traveled to another reality. The Old Steve on the bench is not really the same Steve, he's a Steve Rogers from another reality, doing the same thing. So you can perceive this as an infinite number of Steve Rogers doing the same thing, coming to another reality to be with Peggy. There may be a starting point tho, I mean there was someone else who was Peggy's husband in another reality, that reality is the starting point that started what Steve is doing, it's just that the timeline that we've been following since 2008 is not the starting point, there is, it's just not this one

Bucly was frozen after falling on the Swiss Alps and then in cryo after being recovered then captured by Russian Hudra for most of the 70 or so years only being activated when needed for specific assignments. so maybe a total of a year or to since Zola recovered him? Of course Steve was in the ice for 70 years as well so in winter soldier they were relatively the same age still.. but when Cap goes back to the 40s and lives out his life he is 70 years older than Bucky and in his 90s

Disney, is about making profit, story lines can be changed, Steve Rodgers was put out to pasture. Black Panther is the highest grossing superhero film of all time in North America.( It made 1 Billion dollars in 26 days at the Global box office). With such STAGGERING profits from Black Panther, the Shield may have been given to the falcon to go after that Panther audience. Many people out there like Bucky Barnes aka the Winter soldier, and thought he should be given the shield. For you people out there whining, complaining against woke issues, liberal issues,etc. falcon getting the shield, again Disney is about making Profit.( Chris Evans did not want to play the Cap. America character any longer either).
