I agree with you on them working best as close friends rather than any romantic shipping. Nat has lived as a spy using seduction techniques of being whoever or whatever a particular guy would want. When she says to Cap "Who do you want me to be?" She's leaning back into that. So his "how about a friend" drops her guard.

I like how cap dropped her guard down because she so use to guys wanting her in a sexual way that besides Clint cap doesn't see her that way and wants her to be a friend, a partner that he can count on.

That reaction to finding out Fury was alive is everything xD I'm glad you enjoyed this one. It's still one of my favorites today, and I think it holds up well. It just feels more grounded than most MCU movies. Steve is definitely my favorite avenger. He's just so good through and through, and that's something people can actually aspire to be. Great to see you and Lamby as always.

A few fun, disparate facts: The voice narrating at Cap's museum is Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump) who, in real life, does a lot of work for veterans. For Cap's list that he adds Trouble Man to, the filmmakers changed several elements of it (i.e. artists, pop culture points) depending on what print it was for different movie going regions of the world.

I thought the use of Gary Sinise was perfect, because if Cap was real, of COURSE it would be Gary Sinise speaking at his museum. It's absolutely on brand for him in real life.

Wow, I never knew that, but I think I inherently knew it, if you know what I mean. His voice is so iconic. I never really thought about that voiceover, but if I was watching that part & you asked, “Who’s voice is that?’ I would immediately know it was Gary Sinise.

When Chris Evans played as The Human Torch of the Fantastic Four his life is Fun & Games. But when he play as Captain America in the Avengers he takes it seriously. He's a talented Actor.

Chris Evans is truly talented. When I saw that he was going to be be Steve Rogers I was disappointed that they chose someone who'd already played a Marvel character in two movies. They a friend pointed out that he was in "Scott Pilgrim" and I was confused because I didn't remember him. And there he was, as Lucas Lee! That was the moment I knew I was wrong and that Chris would be amazing as Cap.

41:05 The Winter Soldier’s metal arm at that time was made of Omnium, a steel alloy of immense strength. Hydra got the recipe for it from Obadiah Stane after he died by stealing the remains of his Iron Monger armour

Hey, Jacqueline! Marvel films hit their stride with "Winter Soldier" and it remains one of the highest regarded films in the saga. The movie represents a tonal shift in the MCU towards mature, gritty storytelling with real-world consequence which roped in many non-superhero enthusiasts. It was made in the style of 1970s political thrillers like "Three Days of the Condor" and "The Parallax View" with a healthy dose of "The Manchurian Candidate". As with all the best espionage films, the story was expertly filled with twists, double-crosses, skullduggery and shocking revelations culminating with an incredible race-against-the-clock crisis. Showing Captain America break faith with the institutions he serves due to his disillusionment with systemic corruption is extraordinary and demonstrates his integrity. The plot is drawn from 'The Winter Soldier' arc of Ed Brubaker's legendary 134-issue run on "Captain America" during the 2000s. Paired with the moody, naturalistic illustrations of Steve Epting, the duo revitalized the character and his supporting cast for post-modern readers. The bold move of resurrecting Bucky Barnes and reframing his legacy was a stroke of brilliance that left an impactful mark on latter-day Marvel comics. The element of SHIELD being infiltrated by subversives is drawn from the 1988 limited series "Nick Fury vs. SHIELD" written by Bob Harras and illustrated by Paul Neary. The Triskelion as the headquarters for SHIELD was lifted directly from Marvel's secondary Ultimate Universe line although the film locates it in DC on the Potomac whereas the comics set it in New York Harbor. Similarly, the technological interpretation of Falcon is a nod to the Ultimate iteration of the character whereas the original Marvel iteration can telepathically communicate with birds and has a glider harness with mylar wings and titanium ribbing. Co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo were untested filmmakers who landed the plum gig after Kevin Feige saw their two-episode stint on the TV sitcom "Community"! Nevertheless, the brothers knocked this film out of the park and were tapped again to continue guiding the good Captain's adventures down the line. The action sequences are phenomenally staged but grounded enough that you feel the weight of each impact and only realize you're watching a superhero film when Steve intermittently exceeds human limits. The opening hostage rescue, the Fury ambush, the sniper attack, the elevator brawl, the Quinjet takedown, the freeway chase, the underpass shoot-out and the climactic Triskelion assault are all top-tier set pieces that are thrilling to watch! Despite wall-to-wall action, there is enough downtime to prevent fatigue, to advance plot like Hydra's insidious long-game and to build character like Steve's bedside scene with a senile Peggy. I especially like the use of the real-life 'Operation: Paperclip' in which 1,500 Nazi scientists and engineers were granted immunity and recruited by the CIA's precursor, the OSS, to work for the US government. In the film, Hydra scientists like Arnim Zola use the opportunity of this brain-drain to embed themselves in SHIELD from its very inception. The cast is remarkable. Steve Rogers comes into sharp focus here and Chris Evans truly made the Captain his own the third time around. Carrying over from "The First Avenger", Sebastian Stan returns as a grimly resurrected James Buchanan 'Bucky' Barnes aka The Winter Soldier, Toby Jones lends his voice to the disembodied digital form of Dr. Arnim Zola and Hayley Atwell briefly appears as an aged Peggy Carter. Anthony Mackie makes a strong, likable impression as Sam Wilson aka Falcon as does Emily VanCamp as undercover Agent 13. They join returning allies Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill and Samuel L. Jackson as Col. Nick Fury who gets showcased in a hair-raising action sequence all his own! Having an actor of Robert Redford's stature play Alexander Pierce was not only a casting coup but paid tribute to his role in "Three Days of the Condor"! Rounding out the villain roster is Frank Grillo as a pre-Crossbones Brock Rumlow and UFC welterweight champion Georges St.-Pierre as French mercenary Georges Batroc the Leaper, two traditional Cap antagonists. Callan Mulvey plays the itchy trigger-fingered double-agent Jack Rollins. Maximiliano Hernandez as Agent Jasper Sitwell, who was introduced in "Thor" and was seen throughout the saga in films, One-Shots and "Agents of SHIELD" episodes, is revealed as a Hydra sleeper along with Garry Shandling as Senator Stern returning from "Iron Man 2". The head of Hydra himself, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, played by Thomas Kretschmann, puts in a cameo for the end-credit scene as do the Maximoff twins, Pietro aka Quicksilver and Wanda aka Scarlet Witch, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen. World Security Council members leave their shadowed holo-conference screens to show up in person this time with European representative Hawley, played by Jenny Agutter, being the only returnee from "Avengers". North American Councilman Rockwell is played by Alan Dale, South Asian Councilman Singh is played by Bernard White and East Asian Councilman Yen is played by Chin Han. Steven Culp and Nestor Serrano have bit parts as irate Congressional Committee members who grill Natasha. Gary Sinise lends his voice to the Captain America Smithsonian exhibit as narrator. TRIVIA: 1. Nick Fury relates that his grandfather was an elevator operator which is what Samuel L. Jackson's real-life grandfather did for a living. 2. When Alexander Pierce opens his refrigerator, a jar of Newman's Own sauce is clearly visible as an homage to the two times Redford and Paul Newman shared the screen. 3. Steve's catch-up list differed by country but had seven fixed items: Thai food, Star Wars, Star Trek, Nirvana, Rocky, Rocky II and Troubleman. The countries for which items were added to the list include the US, the UK, Australia, Italy, France, Spain, Russia, Brazil, South Korea, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking countries of South America collectively. 4. Nick Fury's tombstone bears the epitaph "The path of the righteous man. Ezekiel 25:17". This was Jules Winnfield's favorite verse in "Pulp Fiction", a character Jackson is famous for playing. 5. The Winter Soldier's moniker comes from the Thomas Paine quote that "the summer soldier and sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman." 'He' is the winter soldier, the inverse of 'the summer soldier'. EASTER EGGS: 1. When Steve and Natasha enter the old SHIELD headquarters at Camp Lehigh, they find portraits of SHIELD's three founders: Colonel Chester Phillips, Howard Stark and Peggy Carter. 2. Sitwell reveals Zola's algorithm is targeting potentially problematic persons of interest like Bruce Banner and Stephen Strange. This is the first reference to Doctor Strange in the saga. 3. Agent 13's real name is revealed as Sharon by Natasha. This hints at her familial tie to another MCU character for comic readers who know the implication of the name. 4. Although corrupt in the film, Jack Rollins is the actual name of a heroic SHIELD agent from the "Nick Fury vs. SHIELD" comics who alerts Fury to the enemy infiltration. CAMEOS: 1. Co-director Joe Russo plays the underground doctor tending to Nick Fury during the scene where he reveals he's alive. 2. Captain America scribe Ed Brubaker plays the bearded Hydra scientist tending to the Winter Soldier during the scene where Pierce orders his mind wiped. 3. Stan Lee plays the Smithsonian security guard who discovers that Cap's World War II uniform has been stolen. END-CREDIT SCENES: 1. Hydra leader Baron Wolfgang von Strucker plots to sacrifice minor Hydra cells to the ensuing manhunt while consolidating remaining resources to advance their research on the Chitauri Scepter and the two surviving guinea pigs of their human experimentation, the Maximoff twins, who are seen exploring their nascent abilities to move faster than the eye can see and to manipulate objects probabilistically. 2. Bucky visits the Captain America exhibit at the Smithsonian to learn about his and Steve's past. The next chronological stop in the MCU are Episodes 17 - 22 of Season 1 of "Agents of SHIELD" which complete the first season of the show.

I just found your channel and I love your reactions! You care about these characters and you love the MCU. You GET references, they don't just all fly over your head! I've seen all of the MCU movies and during this movie a lot of your reactions made me say... well... "not yet" lol Once you've seen all the movies, you'll know just how often I said that XD I'm subbing for sure! So I can watch all your reactions! I just LOVE geeking out over these movies! With Bucky, they would freeze him for years, let him out to kill someone, then freeze him again. That's why he didn't age. In the comics he was a teenage assassin. One of his assets was he spoke English without an accent. He and cap speak several languages. But in the books he's not augmented. He later becomes Captain America. And Wolverine isn't Weapon X, he's Weapon 10, roman numeral.

There are still a lot of pictures ahead (including TV shows) and I will be glad to see every reaction to them (and not only in this franchise). Captain America all the way up to Civil War is peak Marvel. For sure because of the grand scale end game is hard to beat, and the unorthodox plot and ending of infinity war make that one by far the best, but apart from the last two movies Winter soldier and civil war are 9.9/10

Loved your intro, really warmed up to the movie before even starting! Steve and Nat's chemistry is terrific. Yes, they are much closer friends now and trust each other 100%. I think about the scene in the car when Nat asks "Who do you want me to be"? I believe she was testing the waters. If Steve had been interested in her, I am sure she would have gone for it, but they are both stronger as friends.

IDK if someone has said it already, but I always loved that bucky recognized Steve, not Captain America. He recognized the beaten up kid who would never back down from a fight. I think it says a lot about their friendship. That's all :)

Okay, fun fact. The U.S. military scientific development division, DARPA, has been able to build a Helicarrier since the late 1970s. But they are forbidden to do so. The power source for a Helicarrier would be (two nuclear reactors). So, if it ever crashes, wherever it crashes, that crash site will instantaneously turn into another Chernobyl.

Had to pause the reaction, not the first time watching you reacting to this movie, but it registered what Sitwell says on the rooftop explaining about project Insight, every other time I had missed him saying the name of Stephen Strange right after Bruce Banner, thank you for keeping that in.

@@reactswithjax I think that it is something many miss, I noticed it at the cinema, but most reactors does not think of it or they have not seen Pulp Fiction. There are many "easter eggs" in these movies, I am sure there are people out there who made videos detailing every one lol

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the spy thriller of the MCU. That's why there's so much tension and the characters can't tell who to trust. It's my favorite of the marvel movies.

This one, and Ultron, are my mid-phase favorites, Ultron & the first Avengers might be my overall favs. Though, the first Iron Man really does hold a special place, being the start of the entire adventure.

Charming reaction as usual. The next movie in release order, Guardians of the Galaxy, while another great movie has nothing to do with the movie preceding it - CA: TWS - or following it - Avengers: Age of Ultron. Meanwhile, Avengers: Age of Ultron begins with the Avengers tracking down the last remnants of Hydra, who Nick Fury called "a lot of rats who didn't go down with the ship" at the end of CA:TWS, so Avengers: Age of Ultron picks up where CA:TWS left off. Also, in the after credits scene you saw the evil Strucker and Dr. List in their secret lair talking about "The Twins", and it showed those twins as caged subjects. The Winter Soldier was arguably the best movie in the MCU. It really fired on all cylinders in a way that most others fall just short of reaching. The highway/ bridge fight between Steve and Bucky is one of my favorite fight scenes, of any movie. It was fast-paced, exciting, tense, The Winter Solider feels like a legitimate threat to Captain America, and edited just so that you're really not quite sure who is going to come out on top. The only other contender for a movie experience on this level is Guardians of the Galaxy, in my opinion.

You asked how much of the story line was planned ahead. I remember reading about Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D., Red Skull and Hydra in comic books in the early 70’s? I remember being heartbroken with Bucky’s death in an episode of the animated Captain America. Imagine having to relive that again when I experienced Bucky dying again in the live action film 40 years later! I was shocked finding out Bucky survived to become The Winter Soldier in 2014! I had long ago stopped reading comic books in the 80’s. Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes have won me back again. This my second favorite Marvel film.

For me, Winter Soldier is the best solo Marvel movie in the franchise. Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame are right there with it, although they are ensemble films. Winter Soldier also marked the Marvel directorial debuts of the Russo Brothers who arguably helmed the top four Marvel films in the franchise.

Adamantium and Vibranium are effectively the same thing; Marvel couldn’t use the name adamantium at the time due to copyright issues.

Nice reaction. However I'm surprised you didn't give Falcon any kudos for how incredibly adept he was at flying. Without being covered in any protection he was outflying and outmaneuvering high powered ordanance that would take out military aircraft not to mention the buttload of tracking missiles on his tail that he tricked into hitting the enemy targets. He might not have the full body armor Stark has..yet Sam was doing remarkably well without it.

The reason this, the next Cap movie and Infinity War/End Game are always at the top of everyone's list: The Russo Brothers. They're next level directors. Also, the inscription on Fury's tombstone is a line from Pulp Fiction. And in the after credits scene with the twins, they used the word "miracles" because at the time they couldn't use the term "mutants"

This is one of my favourite movies out of all the MCU. Glad you liked it. :) You'll see more Cap, more Bucky and more Natasha in Captain America Civil War movie. If you liked this one, you'll like Civil War for sure. :) Some fun facts you might like: * The program that Wolverine was under was called Weapon X program. It didn't just change Wolverine, but a bunch of other characters too. They call him X, meaning Ten in Roman numerals. So there were at least nine other characters in the program, and I think Sabretooth was one of them? * At 1:03:11 on the gravestone it quotes the "Path of the Righteous Man" scripture which is in reference to Samuel Jackson's character in Pulp Fiction - Sam's character quotes that verse in that movie * We never really find out what Bucky's current arm is made out of. I think it's just a industrial grade army metal as far as I know. I think it's his original arm from WW2, so probably not a special type of metal. At this stage, Fox was separate so they couldn't even use Adamantium because rights were with Fox still. Some people may have already said this stuff, but this is some nerdy stuff you might like to know. Excited to see you watch other movies too. This age of MCU is best age so far. :)

Now that we know what happens to Steve, she was technically telling the truth. He was one of the men saved that day. He saved himself too. A lot of men from that group were vaporized by the weapon Red Skull made. With Stark's resources it would have been no problem just to change his name to one of the MIAs

I've been doing my own first-time MCU journey. Just finished phase three last weekend. Overall, Endgame and Infinity War are tied for my favorite and, just of the movies you've watched so far, Iron Man 3 is on top. With that said, Tony is by far my favorite. I'm looking forward to continuing to watch your reactions and can't wait until you get to Civil War. It's my favorite of the Captain America movies and definitely make sure you have tissues handy for that one. That's the first one that made me *cry* cry and not just get teary-eyed.

Most consider this one as the best Marvel movie to date. I think because it is not a superhero movie but a spy movie... if you think about it, the whole thing could totally work as a James Bond film. Also from all the reactions channels you have the most detail analysis of them all and have an incredible memory to characters and events. Really impressed

Wolverine is not a super soldier, he is a mutant that has been enhanced by experiments from the Weapon X program, he is probably the most skilled hand to hand combatant in all of Marvel due to his long life having fought in just about every war and studied just about every martial art, in a fight with no powers for either he'd easily beat Cap

The guy refusing to launch the carriers is one of my favorite moments in the MCU along with the old German man who stood up to Loki in the Avengers. There is just something about the simple normal people who aren't the main characters making a stand against the bad guys regardless.

That and during Caps speech the two SHIELD guys that quickdrawed on the STRIKE crew that gunned them down, the quinjet crew that said "Cap needs air support" before Winter Soldier killed them and the guy who shouts "Close the bay doors!" at the control room only to get shot because they were Hydra agents.

If you want more of this whole Hydra-S.H.I.E.L.D. infiltration story (and also more Coulson), you have *got* to watch some Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.! It strived to tie into the films as each of them were coming out for a good portion of the show's lifetime, and the arcs that happened as a result of the tie in with this film were some of the show's best.

I served in the army, and there's a certain way that soldiers interact with each other. It comes from knowing you have that experience in common, even if you just met. The thing I love about Sam is that, from the very beginning, he doesn't treat Steve like a superhero, he treats him like a fellow soldier. That's the immediate bond you see between them.

That soldier bond that Anthony Mackie portrays towards Chris Evans' Cap was the same portrayal that Terrence Howard showed towards RDJ's Tony Stark in Iron Man. They had such good chemistry, you can really see their friendship. I kind of miss it actually, sad that Don Cheadle doesn't give the same level of portrayal. Hard to see any friendship between his version of Rhodes and Tony

I love how even though Bucky isn't any stronger then Cap when he hits something or someone it sounds way more violent. I think the reason why Bucky seems to always have Cap on his heels when they fight is Bucky is a ruthless assassin who isn't pulling his punches while Cap has probably always pulled his punches for fear of hurting people.

Yes, Cap was clearly holding back a little, especially in their first fight. When ultimately he needed to, he overpowered Bucky and rendered him unconscious. Had he wanted to, he could have killed Bucky at that point, but was obviously not going to do so.

My wife and I have watched Winter Soldier so many times. It's one of our favourite Marvel movies, because top down it's perfect. From the writing, acting, story, pacing, music, sound, suspense, Sam, Steve, Nat, even that wonderfully heartbreaking scene with an older Peggy with dementia, and the shocking reveals that we didn't see coming. And the feeling that the good guys are in over their head against the Winter Soldier who is a seriously deadly person. If I could forget I saw a movie so I could watch it again for the first time, this would be one of them.

@@testfire3000 Absolutely. The concept of reactions to me initially was not positive. "People watch people listening to music or watching movies? Are you kidding me?" When I found the first reaction channel I liked I realized it's the "honest" first time viewer reaction that reminded me of my first viewing. To see their joy of discovering a new song or their emotional roller-coaster watching a great movie is entertaining. Alternatively, it's just not as fun watching someone react to something they've seen before.

This movie is still in my top 3 MCU movies. It's exact place shifts around some. It is so well crafted, and the relationship between Cap and Nat is fantastic. It is a wonderful work wife/work husband relationship. They are very close, but it always revolves around the mission. The moment were Peggy forgets everything, and thinks she is seeing Steve for the first time is one of my favorite moments in the MCU, just watching Steve react to it, and that pain, but putting on the smile.

P.S. There was a planned scene involving Hawkeye that they never filmed. After the elevator fight, and Cap is on the run, SHIELD was going to dispatch Barton to hunt him down. He catches up to Cap in a sunken roadway or drainage pass or something or another, and they start fighting towards one another, him firing arrows. They finally get up close and Cap takes him down, when Barton whispers that there is a tracker in his suit. He's actually helping him out, and tells Rogers to knock him out, which he does before escaping. That is why we never see Steve in that dark blue Captain Rogers suit for the rest of the movie. The scene was scrapped though.
