Tony Stark is my favorite out of the group. Went into this in theaters Team Iron Man, but I have to admit, I'm on Capt's side on this one. But you have to remember that this wasn't an Avengers movie. This was Captain America 3. So you could almost predict that Capt was going to win this one.

I saw this in theaters. the reaction to the "QUEENS" title card alone was worth it. I remember it as he last MCU film I saw at the movies that didnt leave me disappointed - the Bucky/Steve friendship carries the Cap movies, the rest of the franchise lacks that sadly...

52:39 -- RE: Steve drops the Shield; Personally, my favorite moment in this film. Tony is altogether too accustomed to swinging his "I paid for that" attitude around, especially when he didn't exactly pay for it in a direct manner. Here, for example, he reminds the Captain that Howard Stark gave him the Shield, and because that's Tony's Dad and because he is also Dead, Tony claims the shield as if it is his to take back. Steve could have thrown into his face again but that would most likely have been murder what with the helmet being removed, so he drops it and walks away. It's an important moment for planting the necessary seed within Tony that he's been terribly wrong about something.

This movie is basically a parody of how dumb and stupid the masses are, with some help from the government. They're basically pinning all the blame on the Avengers for the bad things that the bad guys did.
@Michael-dy2lb
@Michael-dy2lb Ай бұрын
Exactly right. And that's another reason why Team Cap is right. He didn't mention it, but when people inadvertently die in the next altercation, do you think the council in charge of the Avengers is going to take the blame for it? Nope. They'll pin it on the Avengers whether they wanted to be there or not, whether they'd have done things differently or not. Politicians are the least trustworthy people out there.

Okay. I'm with you. Team Cap. My reasons... well, to start off, the governments of the world aren't necessarily wrong in feeling the way they do. But a scene from Rick and Morty comes to mind. Rick saves the universe by killing the threat and then sets up a bunch of tests that kinda scream "saw". At some point it's said that whether or not he had saved the universe isn't the issue, to which he responds "ehh, it would have been if I hadn't." That rough summary is sort of what is happening here. The major threats, defeated by the Avengers, are no longer there to have the blame placed on them. So, the people blame the Avengers instead, since they did have a direct hand in all of it. It wasn't a malicious hand, but they were involved. Regardless, Steve makes an excellent point in explaining his opinion on the matter. Nobody on the planet (LEAST of all politicians) can be trusted with the kind of power these people possess better than the Avengers themselves, because their agenda, unlike the agendas of governmental entities, won't ever change. Signing the accords is tantamount to trading liberty for security. "Those who would trade their freedom for security will have and deserve neither."

As a very old comic fan I find a lot to be happy about with these early MCU offers. The powerful villains are a treat to watch, like Ultron. But, I appreciate the truly intelligent manipulator as the most dangerous villain. The way the movie handled Zemo was great. It's the behind-the-scenes villains that may not be the most visually appealing, but they are the most dangerous.

Exactly what the Marvel press teams is praying you'll believe. Back in 2021 Sebastian Stan said on record Mackie hadn't texted him for months. One of the big reasons they paired Sebastian Stan with Anthony Mackie for every interview is because Stan is known to be extremely laid-back and gets along with everyone. He makes a point of really knowing every member of his film crews and makes sure everyone -- from the director to the makeup artists to the studio cleaners -- receive "wrap," or end of shoot gifts. Mackie is known for very opposite behaviour. Yet, Mackie knows he has a show and an image to sell, so buddy-buddy it is. 🤷‍♀

They don't mention Uncle Ben at all in this film; for all we know, he could be on a business trip to Kentucky or wherever. But those of us who know the Spider-Man story know he's probably dead, and when Peter talks about how if you have the power to stop bad things from happening and you don't, then it's your fault, he's most likely blaming himself for Ben's death. Tony misses that, though, and thinks it's just a general sense of responsibility. Which makes me feel Peter's lonely guilt all the more.

@@nkosikhonangidi7251 No he didn't, and no he didn't. He knew HYDRA was behind killing Tony's parents. He didn't know it was Bucky; really, it's pretty fucking stupid to blame Bucky. Tony did Bucky and Steve wrong by blaming the 100 years tortured POW for being beaten, tortured, and brain-washed into doing Hydra's bidding. There's a reason Tony is the villain in the Captain America movie: he's operating on dark side emotions like anger and hatred, lashing out in his grief at those who don't deserve it. Low-key, Tony sucks. He's the worst.

One of the things I loved about this movie is that it showcases Tony's and Steve's character arcs really well, tying all the previous movies together. In Iron Man 1, Tony shouts in court about having privatised security. But because of his guilt, he is now the one arguing for them to be constrained by a central Authority. In Capt America 1, Steve is the embodiment of the good soldier. He listened to Authority without hesitation or question. But because of his experience with SHIELD, he is now arguing to remove Authority from controlling him and to have the Avengers remain their own private security organisation. It's really clever storytelling how they've developed these perspectives over multiple movies to have it culminate in this one.
@flatebo1
@flatebo1 Жыл бұрын
In Captain America 1 Steve ditches the USO show and heads out without orders to rescue Bucky and the other prisoners. Yes, he turns himself in for disciplinary action as soon as they return, but Steve has always been a guy to do what's right, not what he's told. So when those in authority are just in the exercise of that authority, i.e. when they are also morally right, Steve will obey that authority. And when they're wrong, he won't.

If Wanda didn't contain RUMLOW 10 times more people would have died and been injured on that crowded ground area vs the building offices (which wasn't her intent at all). I was split. My head was with Team Cap but my heart was with Tony, not TEAM Tony, just Tony. A line that people kind of gloss over is what he says right after "Oh! You two knew each other?" He says, "He mentioned you just a couple thousand times. God I hated you." Tony must've had a BITTER resentment for Steve growing up, and that resentment probably shaped much of his life. (Of course, that's obviously not Steve's fault) He's a fragile psyche that's lost everything in his life except his money. And as Howard himself said, "No amount of money ever bought a second of time."
@insertnamehere2746
@insertnamehere2746 Жыл бұрын
I do remember that line, and then you see Cap's reaction cause he kinda realizes another reason why Tony has been so hard to get along with from the beginning. No matter all the good Cap did back in WW2 in how he saved people, Tony would never be able to appreciate it and have respect for Cap because Howard spent so much time talking about him. Then again, Stark does not have respect for many things because he is so smart that he can create extremely powerful things.

Peter tells him "when you have this power, if you don't do anything with it, then it's your fault when something bad happens." You know, the literal opposite of what Tony wants in signing the accords; he wants to absolve himself of responsibility because he feels guilty about how he's fucked up. And so he wants to give the responsibility of controlling his power over to somebody else, ANYBODY else, rather than take responsibility for himself. (For his own power. Tony's philosophy in Civil War, if we could sum it up in a pithy manner, might be said as "with great power, comes no responsibility, give that to somebody else because it's really heavy".)

This might be my favorite MCU movie if only because it does go in such a different direction from what we'd seen. Great idea to use Ant Man and Spider-Man as the comic relief during the airport fight. They're the ones with the least amount on the line, so them being more light hearted works wonderfully. Something to note is that Tony and Steve are both in very emotionally vulnerable places at this point. Tony's lost Pepper and we've seen 3 movies shows us how important she is to him. Steve loses Peggy in this movie and she was the last real connection to the world he used to be in, which makes his search for Bucky so much more important to him. So they're both already on edge and now in a very difficult situation. Adding to that is Vision's growing feelings for Wanda and that clouds his judgment too. He's basically a computer, he should have calculated that Sam would dodge the energy beam causing that to hit Rhodey. In a sense, this movie is about the people who need to be laser focused at a critical time, aren't and how badly that affects those around them.

Yes. Rumlow’s super villain name is “Crossbones”. That awkward scene with Tony on stage not mentioning Pepper has to do with the fact that in real life, Gwenyth Paltrow’s contract ran out with Marvel/Disney. She was in talks of renewing her contract. That’s why she was absent from the film. In Black Panther’s solo film, they’ll explain how Black Panther has the same abilities as Cap and Bucky.

About BP's abilities matching Cap's and WS's super soldier serum boost: IMO BP film will not explain as you probably expect, between explosion and first photo of bucky there is definitely not enough time whole BP to happen. Tchalla still had no his inauguration ceremony, still haven't consumed magic vibranium "tea" (local equivalent of SS serum). At most BP has his costume, which makes him more like Iron Man than Super Soldiers. Scaling wise they might match, but nature is completely different.

@@yaroslavpanych2067 in this movie T'Challa already has BP abilities, he already consumed the herb. That's why he' can run and jump like Cap and Bucky and has super strength. His father T'Chaka has given up the protector of Wakanda role to his son, but was continuing to serve as king. In the BP movie we jsee T'Challa crowned king after his father's death. The vibranium BP suit doesn't enhance physical abilities. It doesn't make the wearer any stronger or faster, it simply makes them bulletproof and provides surveillance/monitoring capabilities (night vision, communication etc). In that sense it's kind of like the Iron Man suits but it doesn't have any built-in weapons other than claws. The Black Panther himself is the weapon, the suit is protection. In the comics (as opposed to the MCU) the suit has more offensive and defensive abilities, but still doesn't make the wearer any physically stronger or faster.

Technically BP's abilities exceed that of Bucky and Cap, it's just in the MCU they decided to boost the definition of "super soldier" significantly. In the comics, he would be no stronger than DC's Batman, only a peak human in the physical sense, but no innate combat ability. In the MCU, they keep making them stronger and stronger, to the point where in F&TWD they were straight mini-Spider-Men.

Fully on Tony's side. All Steve needed to do was talk to tony and be honest. Instead he chose not to talk to him, keep the reason for his Parents death a secret, keep the existence of the other soldiers secret, and he ended up siding with tonys parents' killer, whether bucky intended to do it or not. Tony on the other hand saw the calamity in their wake and wanted to reduce the number of civilian deaths by allowing the UN some oversight, something Cap was also completely against. Let's also not forget that Steve was starting a fight over Wanda being confined to the Compund instead of in Prison, something that escapes my mind completely. Not to mention that Tony ended up offering his help to Steve and was completely blindsided by Steve's lies. There is no way in hell that this entire thing could not have been avoided by Steve and Tony sitting down and talking without Steve behaving like a complete asshat.

Agreed. Steve was super antagonistic and stubborn in this film. If Stark had been in charge of the Lagos debacle, Cap would have torn him up, since he did it every Avengers movie, despite all the times Stark saved the day. I can respect standing up for what someone thinks is right, but Steve's lack of compromise in the face of 117 sovereign countries diplomatically protesting the Avengers, flagrantly disregarding Bucky's decades of terrorism, lying by omission to Stark about the murder of his parents, and his unwillingness to have a conversation about the accords puts him in the wrong. Steve complaining about people having an agenda, but not including himself in that analysis...sounds like something a villain would say.

Ross showed a lot of footage, but he overlooked Thor’s fight with Malekith in London, Hulk vs Hulkbuster in Johannesburg, and the Avengers vs Ultron and his sentries in Seoul. Steve and Tony swapped ideologies. There was a time when Steve trusted the government, but the times have changed in more ways than one. After what happened with S.H.I.E.L.D. in the present, he knows better than to trust the powers in charge. As for Tony, he always did what he wanted and refused to listen when people tried to dissuade from going overboard. He’s late but he’s finally starting to take accountability and wants to able to continue as Iron Man. Vision delivered a good argument without being hypocritical. He literally knows his own strength. To ordinary people, he’s basically god-level like Thor. For Sam and Rhodey, they didn’t have much of a choice. Even if they did, they were still gonna side with their respective best friends - and not just because of their friendships with them. Rhodey, for instance, is still an active member of the American military whereas Sam has seen the things that Steve saw during the HYDRA uprising. The language T’Chaka spoke is Xhosa. It’s widely spoken in South Africa which is where his actor John Kani is from. Zemo’s actor Daniel Brühl grew up speaking German through his father. He also learned Spanish and Catalan from his mother. Daniel reprised his role as Zemo for the German dub. Sebastian Stan is good at speaking Romanian because he grew up in Constanța, and unless I’m mistaken he did his own motorbike stunt. The elite death squad included some of the actors’ stunt doubles at the time. In a deleted scene when Clint and Nat were fighting: Nat: Don’t you think Laura would be disappointed? Clint: Who, in me or you? In another deleted scene, Nat watches the fight in horror after recovering from Wanda’s attack. While evading War Machine, Cap loses his shield. Bucky grabs it and throws it to War Machine. It bounces off of him and Falcon throws it back to Cap. Cap: Nice save. Bucky: I gotta get me one of those. What’s most interesting about Zemo is that he messed with the Avengers without laying a finger with them. CinemaWins goes into further detail as to how and why his plan worked. In the Latin Spanish dub, when Tony grabs Bucky in the silo, the dialogue gets changed a bit but holds the same meaning: Tony: Do you at least remember my parents? Bucky: I carry them in my mind, too! I also think that Nat and Sam knew about it as well. Nat was with Steve when Zola showed them the article. She also dug up some info on Bucky which might have included some info about that night. And of course, Sam would help Steve look for him. “Tony Stank” is still my favorite Stan Lee cameo in terms of comedy. Also, you know it’s a cool scene when you put three legends in the same room.

@@DCMarolas it's one of the reasons that the comic book world and the real world can't coexist. The comic book heroes don't need oversight because it's the heroes that are the 'higher authority' and intrinsically trustworthy. While I get what you're saying and even partially agree, the accords could have still been reworked without too much fuss, had the Avengers sign the original draft or even just be more open to compromises and discussion. But Team Cap didn't try to use diplomacy, didn't show up to the UN meeting (the one where King T'Challa died) where they could have pleaded their case of why the current form of the accords didn't suit them or even about why they were against the idea of the accords (However, considering 117 countries sign on. Legally, it wasn't their place to decide if the accords would pass or not; even if I still agree they should have had more of a say in them from the start). Steve went straight to "my way or the highway", and I'm going to break the law/use violence without trying for more peaceful and lawful solutions first. I think this movie did a good job showing Steve's vulnerabilities and flaws (his stubborn self-righteousness, for instance) and made him a more complex character. So I'm not really into the "Paragon of Justice" Steve version some fans prefer (which is their right and perfectly fine; only speaking of my preference). Steve is a good man, but he's not Superman.

Oh yeah Spider-Man showing up was insane people went mental at the cameo in the Civil War Trailer. For legal reasons with Sony owning his movies rights they simply couldn't introduce Spider-Man into the MCU unless Sony agreed. Andrew Garfield could've been the MCU Spider-Man as when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 VFX's were being worked on Marvel came to Sony to see if they could add The Avengers tower into the Manhattan Skyline connecting The Amazing Spider-Man films to the MCU but they were close to finished so it never happened. In terms of Tom Holland he's a very good Peter Parker and Spider-Man. The big difference being his connection to Tony Stark at a young age and how the Civil War event has pretty much kick started his career as Spider-Man from Tony developing a 15 year old Peter a high tech suit to going up against the Avengers in a civil war conflict. In the comics Peter was more mature in his early 20s in Civil War so I know alot of people were not too big on this aspect and preferred Spider-Man to start out low tech and Independent from The Avengers and then make his way up after a few years Spider-Man. People would've preferred at least a trilogy of films building Spider-Man from 15 to starting college at 18 where he'll become closer to the Avengers as he's older and more experienced and then taking part in the Civil War event when he's maybe early 20s. So we have time to see this Spider-Man being more low tech on his own and then connecting with the Avengers, still love the later Spider-Man films though but yeah this Spider-Mans early years are much more high tech compared to the comic and other Spider-Man movies simply because of how long it took Sony to finally allow a Spider-Man in the MCU. In the comic The New Warriors (Night Thrasher, Namorita, Speedball, and Microbe) battle a group of villains (Cobalt Man, Speedfreek, Coldheart, and Nitro all B and C list Villains and hero's) in Stamford, Connecticut, while filming a reality television show. Nitro explodes, killing more than 600 people (including school children and all of the New Warriors except Speedball). The rest of the superheroes appear in Stamford to search for survivors from X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four, and other solo hero's, The X-Men are overseen by Sentinels. The Superhero Registration Act comes into play with many hero's agreeing to sign after what happened in Stamford while other hero's decide not to sign as that would mean registering with the federal government as a "human weapon of mass destruction," reveal their true identity to the authorities, and undergo training. Iron man is pro signing while Captain America is anti signing same as the film. So the MCU Civil War is more in relation to the events we've been seeing in the Avengers films along with Winter Solider etc. Fitting the Civil War storyline into the MCU instead of coming up with a storyline closer to the massive Superhero Civil War in the comics it's more of an Avengers Civil War. The MCU instead of the The Superhero Registration Act we have the The Sokovia Accords. The Avengers Will No Longer Be A Private Organization And Are Subject To Government Oversight, No Superhero Is Allowed To Operate Outside Of Their Own Country Without UN Approval, Using Superpowers To Break The Law Or Engage In Vigilante Activity Means Indefinite Detention Without Trial, The Use Of Technology To Grant Superpowers Will Be Regulated, Section 36B: The Creation Of Self-Aware Artificial Intelligence Is Prohibited.
@CaptainAmercia
@CaptainAmercia Жыл бұрын
Follow up but yes this is the first introduction to Spider-Man in the MCU so don't worry about missing a Spider-Man film. With how plans were going for Marvel there were actually two scripts for Civil War one without Spider-Man and one with Spider-Man just incase the Marvel and Sony agreement never went through. Antman would've been Team Ironman instead changing his character going forward. Spider-Man films were only added to Disney Plus not that long ago as they're Distributed by Sony Pictures, Sony Pictures Releasing and co produced by Columbia Pictures and of course Marvel Studios. So Sony is heavily involved with these films alongside Marvel Studios. So for a while you couldn't watch anything Spider-Man related under Disney Plus but you're all good now for everything MCU Spider-Man related.

Well I don’t think that the imperfect rules are the problem. The way the accords were was the problem itself. Working under the government full control and having rules are two different things. They could’ve set rules without having full control over the organization. There should have been more negotiation seen or had before a had to make a decision. For example infinity war was a good example, Ross was telling Rhodes to arrest the same people we needed to help prevent a massive threat. Tony in civil war also disobeyed a couple orders. Natasha had the best compromise in the movie of having some of the avengers on and some off in a break case situation. I agree that imperfect rules are better than no rules but, total control is just as bad as no rules. If they avengers under the accords actually followed the accords all the way with listening to Ross orders the story would’ve been a lot worse.

Moreover, the accords would have applied to potential future superheroes too. And no one could know in advance how those superheroes would turn out. Steve talks about governments being made of people and people having changing agendas... but Steve, you're people too. All the Avengers are people, with people's weaknesses. It's a bit arrogant of him to say that, IMO. I don't think hoping for them to have some legal supervision is a bad thing. People go to the extreme of what the accords could become, but that is the worst-case scenario with the Avengers (and other superheroes) not having been able to use the not difficult legal means to amend the accords, all the while keeping their spirits (of the accords).

Or a backup power source, maybe? Or an ejection seat, at least? Also, Rhodey is the one who commands Vision (Why? How?) to take this ridiculously dangerous shot at Sam. The highly-decorated military officer just expected this other decorated military man to just stay still and let Vision shoot him with impossible accuracy? So, 1) Karma - Rhodey proves once again, why, outside of proposing nipping the Thanos problem in the bud, he has never been the sharpest bullet in the arsenal; and, 2) How would Rhodey know/memorise the exact schematics of Falcon's wings? Dude couldn't even stop the HammerTech suit he traitorously wore in IM2, from trying to kill his "best friend." (Maybe that's why no parachute? Tony never really got over it? 🤣) I guess nobody wants to talk about Sam racing to try to save Rhodey from his own stupidity (Which Saint Tony, nor Vision, who can change his density and travel at speeds of 700MPH, failed to do). Sam, who easily could've been the one of the ground instead of Rhodey, is a trained military medic, moves forward, hands down, and apologises for the accident which was not his fault, and true to his "brilliance," good guy Tony attempts murder him by shooting a repulsor ray blast -- without warning -- directly to Falcon's chest, that knocks him backwards, off his feet, tumbling through the air, where Sam could have easily been killed or broken his neck. When I first watched it I was Team Cap, not that I blame Tony at all. After viewing it multiple times, omg the betrayal and hurt that Tony must have felt when he found out Steve knew this whole time but did not bother to tell him. Throughout the movie, Steve could’ve just told Tony, and trust him to do the right thing but he just never did. It was the whole trust issue and honesty that sent me fully to team Iron Man

The movie does well in creating a no win scenario. I was essentially on Tony's side somewhat, Captain America self appointing himself judge of Bucky's situation and deciding unilaterally his innocence is unacceptable. Caps argument boils down to "Too bad for Bucky's victims, too bad for Tony's mom and dad, Bucky's my friend and he was under drugs and abused/manipulated so i say he doesn't need to face justice. did you lose anyone? too bad...he's my friend and if you don't like it I'll hit you with my Frisbee." Simply unacceptable under any circumstances. Of coarse the best part is this is essentially what happens to Tony in the end, he does exactly what Cap does and decides that he will be Bucky's executioner which is also wrong. Bucky and Tony are the only characters with solid mitigating circumstances. Bucky was druged and mind controlled and Tony was emotionally compromised at finding out his mom and dad were murdered 2 min ago and that his "friend" is helping the killer escape the law. Cap's case is the weakest based based purely on loyalty and not wanting want to lose his best buddy and acts as if only he knows whats right no one else's opinion matters, including the law. Cap feeling alone, lost or separated from your time are not strong mitigating circumstances for hiding a fugitive. That said we all can relate to cap's struggle. in retrospect you'll see story wise why this low was worth it.

Dude... Buck WAS innocent. If you think that the right thing to do for a POW who was tortured for 100 years is to punish him to make other people feel good, then you're wrong. Steve being loyal doesn't make him wrong; he's so obviously in the right in CAPTAIN AMERICA: Civil War that I'm staggered every time people don't see Tony was the villain of the movie. Cap *rightly* thought that the government - who wanted to nuke New York in Avengers 1, who wanted to weaponize the Hulk, who created the Abomination - wasn't trustworthy. Tony, on the other hand, felt guilty the entire movie and was operating on dark side emotions the entire movie (not just the end, the ENTIRE MOVIE) and just wanted to cede responsibility to somebody else. THEN he lied to a 14-year-old child to involve him in a fight between superheroes. You think TONY is the responsible one [when he got Peter to fight on the side of "with great power, comes give your responsibility to somebody else because it's heavy and guilt sucks"]?
@darktread2136

@@SchulzEricT The reason you're staggered at people giving Tony a pass is because you missed the point. The point is not that weather Cap is wrong in Bucky's innocence. The point is he doesn't get to decide on his own for all the world on what to do about Bucky. if you are my best friend and you kill 100 people because of "reasons" would i be right in hiding you from the feds in my basement, or on a farm out in the middle of no where. no, it would make me a loyal and good friend, i agree 100% but i would also be wrong as it's not my job to decide your guilt or innocence, it's the job of a judge and jury. i don't think anyone thinks Cap is bad, but it's not his place to decide Bucky's fate. i agree with you 100% about Tony feeling guilty and that he shouldn't have involved a 14 y/o into what could and did turn into a superhero fight. i think you're spot on with that. Which is why i don't support tony 100% ether. the difference is Tony chose to side with law and order into bringing the group in check instead of turning into a vigilant superhero gang, better or for worse. i also think you are 100% right that the government in Marvel is shown to be untrustworthy, a contestant theme in Caps comics since the 80's. we cant say because of spoilers but we both know what happens and that this story is made to cause divide in the fans. the movie did what it was meant to, make us all frustrated with everyone's choices and actions. but the payoff was worth it. 😉

@@darktread2136If the "reasons" are: he was tortured and brain-washed for 100 years by a proto-Nazi organization, then yeah, he's 100% absolved from blame. @@darktread2136 Yeah, Tony chose "Law and Order", which is code for "breaking the law and getting away with it, being above the law, enforcing laws in a racist and classist way". The gov't is every bit as corrupt in the MCU as in real life (maybe less, but pretty corrupt nonetheless) so... siding with a rotten-to-the-core gov't against vigilantes who have mostly done a good job of minimizing collateral damage (save Tony himself) is... a bad choice.

@@SchulzEricT "he's 100% absolved from blame"...says who? Cap? Why does Cap get to decide for everyone? Cap doesn't represent the victims. He doesn't represent Tony's mom and dad. That's why we have a Law/justices system. Cap doesn't represent the law. Cap has zero authority to decided anything for anyone, including Bucky. Cap's rogue at this point and causing millions of dollars in damages to an airport resisting the the government representatives that do represent the law. that's the problem. it's not up to cap to decide anything. Cap is at best a witness to the horror Bucky went threw but that's it. To Top it all off Cap decides he's just going to hurt anyone and brake anything that tries to bring Bucky to justice, Cap has basically turned himself into a violent fugitive. That's just wrong...there is no way around it. I'm going to take you side for a min here though and say that i hear what you are saying. Cap is doing what he feels is ideologically right. The same way Batman operates outside the law. Cap knows the government has been infiltrated by hydra, he feels Bucky will not get a fare trial (he's probably right), Bucky may kill people in the process of bringing him in because his head is scrambled, they may kill Bucky to protect the fact that Hydra has infiltrated the government. The government may just sneak Bucky away and try to make more super soldiers from him. So cap is doing the most logical thing in his own eyes which is to get Bucky to a neutral spot (Wakanda) and let them see if the can unscramble Bucky's brain. It may be the only fair shake Bucky can possibly get. I don't want the back and for forth to get to long even though i think your very bright and have excellent points, So I'm going to agree and disagree with you and leave it their. A lot of people seem confused when Cap says he knew Buck killed Tony's parents, but it was one of the stories brought up in The Winter Soldier when Cap infiltrates the old hydra base. He learned the Winter Soldier killed the Starks, not long before finding out it was Bucky who became him. Spider-Man was the real selling point of this movie when the first posters were released. He was _instrumental_ to the comic storyline that inspired this, so much so the story was essentially a battle of who could win him over and therefore win the fight. Back in 2016, Sony was messing up bad and it looked like we'd not get a Spider-Man for a while. Then Marvel dropped the first poster with an Iron Man arm and Cap arm grabbing at opposite ends of Spidey's arm, and it broke the internet. Not only a new Spidey, but also, finally in the MCU. Him catching the Winter Soldiers bionic arm like it was nothing is still in my top 5 MCU moments, the rest of which come after this movie.

As for me, I’ve always been team Cap. I could never sign something that takes away my free will. And especially not for the United Nations which I’ve seen do some dumb things over the years. I totally understand where Tony was coming from but I definitely would have sided with Steve. I love this movie because it really packed an emotional punch with the investment we all had with these characters going in. I think that this is one of the greatest movies ever made in how they handled that many important characters. You don’t feel like anyone was really neglected or mistreated and they all were true to their characters. It is basically a perfect film! I can’t wait for Dr Strange. That one is different than anything else you’ve seen so far in the MCU.

Tony is the villain, and Ross is clearly in the wrong; the movie is showing him being wrong because he IS wrong.
@misty3195

@SchulzEricT actually, if you ever have the time to watch the interviews from the writers and directors, that isn't what they were doing. Yes the Ross's Brothers favorites Steve and this movie is were they took over and changes some of the storylines that had been set up earlier in the franchise. But they tried to make in where neither side were wrong nor right and pulled in a lot of real world laws andstuff like that. They did a couple of screen tests to make sure the audience were split 50/50. It is a Captain America movie because it is his fall from grace and where he had to finally make a selfish choice over his duty and hold to it. He walked away from his duty to the people and embraced his own wants and needs. He decided he would do it his way. Throughout the whole movie he's world was being thrown apart. Peggy's death, Bucky being hunted and the team falling apart. But the most crucial part is that he himself is compromised by it all and making poor choices left and right. This is a call back to his first movie. A good man vs a good soldier. On the other hand were Steve does get it all in the end, Stark had to face just as much loss as Steve gains throughout the movie. His part shows what true accountability is. He lost Pepper and his place on the team after Age of Ultron. He lost the team in the end and will have to stand alone holding the world up. He essentially became the last one standing against the bad.

You mentioned Tony and Steve being like siblings. That's 100% accurate. Steve was Howards biggest creation. And he would tell Tony about Steve all the time. His entire life, he felt that his father was more proud of Captain America, and loved him more. Tony always felt like the little brother in his "perfect" older brother's shadow: always not good enough, and constantly needing to prove himself to a father that wasn't there anymore. Tony always acted towards Steve with sibling rivalry; angry that Steve was the pride of the family, and he being the forgotten son. And he was always trying to outrun that ghost. That's where a lot of Tony's damage/trauma comes from. Steve always acted like he didn't understand why his brother was acting like that because he'd only been kind and understanding and fair towards him. And in this movie, Steve "choosing" Bucky over Tony... that actually broke Tony's heart. He felty abandoned by Steve when Steve didn't sign the accords. And choosing Bucky was the final nail in the coffin. Tony felt betrayed and abandoned by his brother. It parallels Thor and Loki's relationship a tiny bit.

And Tony has spent about 40 years dealing with the ghost (who has a freakin' exhibit in the Smithsonian!)…and then Steve turns up, alive and buff (and incredibly self-righteous) and Tony has to interact and make friends with him. And Tony gets to "pay for everything and design everything and make everybody look cooler" (Age of Ultron), but everybody treats Steve as the leader. And Steve gets to snap at Tony for being a "big man in a suit’ (Avengers) and blast him for "keeping secrets" (like YOU'RE one to talk!) and make Tony feel even guiltier about Ultron (which was Tony's fault, but literally nobody else was even trying to do something to stop the aliens from coming back). No wonder when Wanda puts the Hex on Tony, he imagines STEVE blaming him for the world being destroyed. Meanwhile, Steve can't even say "thank you" for a damn pen. FFS.

Yeah Civil War is widely considered one of the best MCU movies. It just does everything so well. It was a little odd that Tony would bring a teenager into all this out of nowhere but this also has to do with the licensing for Spiderman. That property was owned by Sony for years (previous Spiderman movies were Sony) so everyone thought there was no way for Spidey to be in a Marvel movie even though he's historically a Marvel character. Because the MCU was becoming so successful the two companies worked out a licensing deal to bring Spidey back home to Marvel. And that is where "Homecoming" comes in.

Yes it would have been worse if they had done nothing or lost, but the damage was still done. Steve and Tony were both correct, they had to be put in check but not through the government. As for why Thor and Hulk weren't in this one: let's just say they were a bit busy.

Also, your reaction to each new character that (unexpectedly) showed up was worth watching the whole video. Especially when you saw Ant Man appear. 😀

Bucky is one of my favorite MCU characters because of his tragic story arc. And Sebastian Stan plays that pain and anguish so well.

I was Team Steve all the way. This remains my favorite MCU movie - it was a theme park ride start to finish. At the end when Steve lifted his shield to bring it down on Tony, I wasn't sure if he was going for a kill - then I realized he was just trying to create an opening to go for the reactor to shut down the suit. I was stunned that I thought Steve might have been going for a kill, and then the camera focused on Tony's face for a moment - he looked like he was thinking the same thing. It was a cool moment.

@@juako3191 except he is wrong. remember the government is being controlled by the remnants of hydra and the scrolls so if they all signed the accord then they would have been doomed. its literally one of the main themes of secret invasion.

Rhodey said to turn him into a glider. Sam would have still been able to glide down. The iron man suits cant do that especially if the arc reactor is shot out

Still a crazy risky shot to take at that range. If Sam had moved the wrong way (which was obviously possible since he moved completely out of the shot) then it could have instantly killed him.

I get such a kick out of your reactions! You're so cute how you talk to them, then anticipate where it's going. You're editing is excellent, with all the self-depreciating comments. Glad to be on this Marvel ride with you. Keep enjoying ... and you really need to watch the Hawkeye series, and I can't wait until you get to Black Widow (which precedes Hawkeye). You are going to LOVE both of them. And I will love watching along with you. Lamby must have been taking a nap ... was a no-show, or did I just miss it?

Worst reactor on KZbin hands down. So fake, she acts up so much for the cameras. None of it feels genuine, she'd act all 'giddy' if the wind changed direction.
