The narrator makes such a huge deal out of Cook's weekly Bible readings, without noting that even the most atheistic captain in the Royal Navy would've done the same under pain of death because the very first article of the Royal Navy's 1749 Articles of War demanded he do so unless he happened to have a real chaplain on board which he did not. By most accounts, he was not a particularly religious man. He was a great seaman and obviously an even greater cartographer, but that's about the best thing that can be said for sure about him with any level of objectivity.

Captain James Cook was a professional seaman, navigator and explorer. He lived in a time when these were highly dangerous occupations with scurvy, tuberculosis and plague affecting many sailors who traveled to distant lands. He has never seemed to me to be overly religious, but I have always admired his leadership and humane treatment of the "Indians" as they called the Aboriginals at that time. As an Australian woman with some Aboriginal ancestry, I gave up worshiping male gods a long time ago.

@@johnnycash1365 Nope, never had any of those either. Thankfully, in today's world I can live my life without the need to worship any gods and hopefully, I won't be burned at the stake.

Thank you for a really good video about Capt. James Cook. I was encouraged to hear he took his Bible with him. I felt sorry for his wife left alone (like all navy wives) with the children only seeing him betweens. Thanks again for doing a good job.

Well done. Our people and young people need to know about Christians such as Captain Cook who made a difference in his day and even in our days. Their lives are worth study and many cases emulation. Keep up the good work!

Tupaia from Raiatea Tahiti navigated cook all through polynesia but was purposely left out of the whitewashed history books how do you discover a place that has already been discovered, Polynesians had already sailed and populated all of polynesia thousands of years before cook, Polynesians also meet with the natives of south America 3000yrs before Columbus, maori also have the kumara (sweet potato) only native to sth america and we did this by using astrology and science, Polynesians are the nomads of the sea and the greatest seafarers to have ever existed. History is wrong, This is the real history cook and columbus didn't discover anything.

Excellent presentation. Thank you, however, though I am a devoted Christian, I express my concern about the way in which you have used this footage to spread the word. Just doesn’t feel pure or right. Comes across as a con-though I realise that you no doubt are only trying to share righteous principles.

Cook was killed by Hawaiian natives because he was not quite as humane as this narrator would have you believe. This story leaves out a lot of the killing of indigenous peoples that was done in the name of Cooks exploitation and domination.

Cook was not the navigator of the South Pacific ,that title rightly belongs to a tahitian mariner and navigator named tupaea, and unfortunately because he was a native English white christian narrative paints cook as the finder of lands like new zealand and Australia and because of the christian doctrine of discovery, and a papal bull known as terra nullius to lay claim to countries already discovered by 1st nations peoples which is my reason to say how our history is slanted to a white christian narrative and as much as I admire cooks adventures it always remain my endeavour to rewrite our history which allows for a true representation of truth

Captain came to South Pacific in 1768 -69 to witness the transit of Venus. He left England with many Portuguese Maps. He didn’t discover too much at all, sorry to burst bubbles here. Do a bit of research, the Portuguese (firstly) and Spanish, French and then Dutch all traversed many of the places that apparently Captain Cook discovered, and hundreds of years prior. I don’t know why people persist with these fanciful tales about Cook. Google the following asking about the discovery of Australia Collingridge, Major, McIntyre, Trickett, Barros, Cristovao Mendonca, Diego Pacheco, Look at a Map Of Portuguese discoveries in South East Asia. Cooks discovery of Australia is a modern day myth. I just suggest you research and read.
