The St. Roch and its captain Henry Larsen were the first to travel the Northwest Passage from west to east and the first to do it in a single season. Larsen and his crew weren’t explorers, they were RCMP officers who established Canadian sovereignty at a time when few people even cared about it. It’s a uniquely Canadian story - and one that’s not widely known - about charting new territory even as they dispensed justice, delivered mail, ferried supplies and people between remote communities.
