No, that might be Major Stede Bonnet. He was a rich wannabe who commissioned a ship from a ship-builder (most pirates did not buy their ships but acquired them in other ways) and hired a crew who knew how to sail in 1717. He was very successful for a brief time. He was hanged in 1718.

As a hearing impaired person, I use subtitles and they are golden. The addition of “glug, glug” when Max was tasting the rum in this episode was a hoot. In other episodes the added “sound effects” in writing cracked me up also. Not sure if the subtitles are created by the channel itself or transcribed by somebody else, but whoever it is, well done and thanks for the chuckles.

Quick note; if you DO wish to use ice in this drink, or any drink using eggs, shake without ice first. This is called the dry shake and it allows the proteins in the egg to form a rich foam (which is what you're looking for if you use eggs anyway as the introduction of egg adds a negligible flavor). If you add ice first the egg wont emulsify and you wont get a foam, or you'll get very little. Adding ice AFTER emulsifying, however, won't break the foam. If you choose to do that, though, consider omitting the water from this recipe as part of shaking with ice IS about adding (cold) water.

The trick of using another country's flag is where the terms "true colors" and "false flag" come from. The rules of war allowed ships to fly false flags, but they were required to switch to their "true colors" before opening fire. An excellent example of this is the final battle scene in "Master and Commander".
