And if Dexter was ever caught Matthews could have potentially faced accessory and obstruction of justice charges. Matthews always came off as cold and calculated. He knew that if he warned Dexter about La Guerta he'd end up getting his position back seeing as she'd end up dead.

I don't think he knew, but it's possible. If he knew, that's a stain on his character as it makes him complicit to a degree in both Doakes' and LaGuerta's deaths. Maybe his loyalty to the Morgans was stronger than his moral compass. This was the case witih Quinn, but we knew how crooked Quinn could be. I think Original Sin will clear up exactly what he knew and didn't.

I think he diden't know and diden't want to know Harry was his best friend for years and he looked out for his family even after his death He woulden't want harry's only son being arrested especially when odds are he agreed with harry that too many monsters get away i believe there is a flashback where harry says that someone getting off is madness and mathew agrees so it could be he believes dexter would never kill someone innocent which in fairness is semi true and he doesn't want to find out if he really is the killer.

I think it is HIGHLY unlikely Harry would have told Dexter's secret to his partner because that would always represent a level of danger for Dexter. However, I do think he probably pieced things together as the series progressed, and he decided to save Dexter. The boy who suffered so much and the boy his Partner loved unconditionally.

his character is there and is barely addressed and pretty much a background character in original sin, i wish he gets to become more prominent in future episodes, tho it seems like they put his character off to the side which i hope changes soon, i mean he was already important in miami metro and was relatively close to Harry from what we see in the original show's flashbacks, i dont rlly think they did a great job w the casting for him but lets see where it goes, just hope the writers wont disappoint fans again with this prequel.

@@TRxh98 I'm thinking Dexter kiIIs Captain Spencer. In the original series, Harry's decision to off himself came after he walked in on Dexter dismembering a body. When Hall first narrated that story 15 years ago, he said the person was a "drug dealer" (at least I think that's what he said, it was something like that). That's a story that could easily be retconned. They already retconned the Nurse Mary story (in the original series, it was Harry who figured out what she was doing and told Dexter to stop her. In the new series, it was Dexter who figured it out, took it to Harry, and sort of nudged him into giving permission to kiII her.). So, I'm thinking Captain Spencer is a bad guy and Harry walks in on Dexter slicing him up. The reality of what Dexter is finally hits Harry, and it's too much to take. He knows these bad guys deserve what they get, but he just can't live with what Dexter has become and his own role in shaping Dexter into an efficient and effective serial killer Again, that's just my prediction. It's also possible that Dexter's boss, the Buffy actress, is the bad guy (or one of multiple bad guys), but I think she's a red herring. I predict something will happen that will make Dexter suspect her of something criminal, but then she'll turn out to not be a criminal. I predict Captain Spencer's going to turn out to be the big bad for the season, and Captain Matthews will be introduced in the final episode as he takes over the precinct and steps in as Dexter's new father figure in the wake of Harry's death. I'm curious to see if I got any of this right Edit - keep in mind that Harry's death at the end of the season wouldn't mean the end of Christian Slater's involvement in the show. If anything, his role as ghosts Harry could be even more prominent than the original Harry was in the original series.

I wonder if in future original sins episodes, one of the flash back scenes would show that Harry would save Matthew’s life during a shoot out, or save his career politically, & covered him, & that made Matthew feel like he really owe Harry & always made sure to keep the Morgan family safe which would explain his loyalty to the Morgan family over his morals, & throughout the ending of original sins, we’d get flashback scenes of this theory of Harry opening up to Matthew about Dexter’s behavior which then Matthew would connect Harry to Vogel. But, it wouldn’t make sense only because the whole premise of the show was about Dexter’s life flashing before his eyes, & I don’t think Dexter would even know that Matthew knows about his ‘dark passenger’. There were a few details throughout the show where I’m like ‘How would Dexter know this, & why would he flash back to those moments?’ Especially with some of Harry’s flashback scenes

I think Matthews knew. Wasn't it him who had the really loud conversation with Harry in front of Dexter and Debra on Debs birthday? In a not very subtle attempt to get Dexter to 'take care' of the criminal that got away, without directly telling him to. If that was him, then he knew! He also made a point of steering any speculation about Dexter away from him, like he knew but can't exactly say he knows. Wouldn't surprise me if he pops up in resurrection to save Dexter somehow. And when Laguerta was investigating Dex, Matthews fed him all the evidence she had, and all her theories, which Dexter immediately covered up or planted evidence to redirect. It was his way of giving Dex a heads up. I think he knew, he was in on it with Harry and Evelyn.

Timeline all over the place tho, Hes the one who tells Harry the pimp is gonna walk, Harry walks in on Dexter all proud with the pimp in pieces.. Later on the Dr says he deserved it , He killed his partner, sep Dexter was at the crime scene, & had to sneak up to see the body( not yet MM) .. But Harry killed himself 3 days after walking in on Dexter in the act .. could be wrong

Yeah Lundy was too strait-laced to let Dexter slide. Only leg that theory had to stand on was Lundy’s ability to profile. He had a bad feeling when he ran into Trinity without any real reason. Writing has a lot to do with that but still. So I guess he could have known. But he would have acted on it.

I think Matthews knows about the exact circumstances of Dexter, the death of his mother etc. He connected the dots a long time ago or knew from the beginning. At the end of the day, I think many cops would turn a blind eye if there was a serial killer going after horrible people that manage to evade the justice system. In a way Dexter is the dark passenger of us all.

None of them knew except Harry, Doakes, Laguerta, Debra, Evelyn and Camilla. Doakes caught Dexter red-handed, Laguerta found out in the later season, Debra caught Dexter and Dexter told Camilla after giving her pie. Matthews would've arrested Dexter had he known, Maria tried arresting Dexter and Debra couldn't turn him in. Evelyn created the code.

Unfortunately I think it is just a drop the ball moment from the writers. As epic as the show has been, there are some things that just didn't make sense and had nothing to do with subplots or intrigue. How about making a video about the things that just didn't make sense. A good example would be when Dexter is taking Deb's body out of the hospital on the stretcher. That was one of the least believable scenes and with some time invested, surely a list of other examples could be made to illustrate the point; that some of the story was just not thought out very well.
