"car lifts don't go up that far" - - well this episode is the reason why the laws were changed

Despite the whole "car lifts don't go up that far" aspect, this scene is still quite disturbing. From the rather joyful music, to how Captain Black lifts the radio's volume so no one hears the mechanics screams. (Very horror movie like) Very spooky and suspenseful stuff.

Well this was dark for a kids show... But also - REAL HAND!

REAL HAND LOL !!!

I LOVE the cut to the full-size real-person hand, then back to the jittery little puppet guy. It's like they all have Parkinson's until you focus on their hands. I know, I know--Parkinson's is not funny.

The episode was "Seek and Destroy", in case you wanted to know.

This is why we have such extensive 'elf and safely these days.

these were obviously well story-boarded and thought out. More so than you can say about a modern Nicolas Cage thriller.

DarthPeppy - thanks for posting this clip. I have often quoted this scene with regard to on-screen violence and how censorship has changed over the years. I CLEARLY remember seeing this as a kid in about 68/69 when Capt Scarlet first aired on UK TV and was sacred 'shitless' by it for weeks! If you remade that now for an adult audience with real actors, it would still have the same blood-chilling effect - only now it would have at least a 15 certificate! Thanks once again for uploading.

I wonder if that was the inspiration for that scene in Scream where Ghostface crushes Tatum with the garage door.

Johnno9989 I wouldn't be surprised if "Scarlet" got into the heads of more than one modern director who saw it as a kid, then forgot about it later.

***** Captain Scarlet was easily the darkest children tv show of all time. When this was first shown in 1967, nobody batted an eyelid. It is the only kids' show to have a suicide bomber ! (In the first episode.) A series with such graphic violence would never be made today for children.

Rob Jones yeah, it's a shame about that. In fact, if this show was made now, it would probably relate to Al Qaeda.

Captain Black is a baddie alright, I remember him shooting someone, pouring petrol on them and setting them on fire! hang on... ....didn't I borrow that video off you?????

uh .... Justin Bieber. That would complete the sheer horror of the scene. Playing Justin Bieber on the radio while the lift crushed the very life out of the mechanic would have been gripping and horrible in the best, true sense.
