This brought back so many memories…. The good old days when we raced in SF bay on saturdays. Thank you. The grid was way ahead of its time. Bilge is sooo clean. Great interior too. Wish I was younger, but glad for the memories. This boat is in great shape. Love the LORAN…. Wish they kept the system up… one day when Russia kills GPS signals we will wish LORAN was still active.

Good one! I remember those 32/28s quite well. I bet you raced against my friend Hume Wells, Pegasus, on his in the Marblehead race? My gang was a little out of sync, we went from a Paceship 29 to a C&C 29, and then a Kirby 30. Those were some fine times for sure! I think we all mastered the broach back in those days.

@@YachtHunters If I were a little closer I would go explore the archives at the Squadron. I haven’t been there in two years. What year would that have been in the mid seventies? I am trying to recall Pegasus, I think she was white. Hume had a C&C 38 and C&C 40 that were both dark blue. He would likely have been sailing with his sons, Mike and Bobby I think. And he might have been seen standing on the foredeck in the fog with his Whistler radar rig around his neck.

What a happy accident to come across your video. As I’m approaching birthday number 85, I understand your lingo. I still have the itch. Cruising was my thing. I sailed the East Coast from Clearwater, FL to Penobscot Bay, mostly offshore. Occasionally inside. Of the boats I’ve sailed, my favorite was and is my Stone Horse, hanked on tanbark sails and simplicity. How my late wife loved her! My favorite spots: Maine, Narraganset Bay, and Chesapeake Bay. Can’t do it anymore, but the memories are still vivid. Thanks for your efforts. Good thing my driving is limited, as I’m not far from Bridgeport, and the venue is tempting.

I’ve been thinking about and procrastinating about getting my first sailboat for awhile now. Do you believe this is a good fit for a new sailor? What draft were you thinking and why. …ask yourself. That. I sailedfor almost two decades with 8’ I just didn’t try to beach her Roller furling wasn’t born with Ssilboat. It evolved for raving and simplicity I go think it has s down side in h th hat too many skippers carry too much sail too long. In the old days we read the weather and prepared in advance for wind changes up and down As far as ‘dumping” it a hanked sail can drop to the deck like a rock most of the times. If you get a boat with roller you certainly probably wouldn’t go back to hanks
@claytonallen3361
@claytonallen3361 2 жыл бұрын
@@YachtHunters I was thinking 4’ draft would keep me out of trouble in the marina entrances, and maybe in the Bahamas someday, my only experience was a small power boat with less than 2’ draft. I expect to take awhile to get experienced at sailing and don’t want to break anything during my “rookie” time.

That Loran C was not original, since Loran A would have been the loran system in place in '72. The unit on this boat was probably from the early 80s. Texas Instrument had some the first yacht Loran C units, which did not have waypoint capability - just TDs ("time delay" readings), which were easily plotted with an interpolation card (which I still have).

Why don't y'all carry a moisture meter with you and test some of the surfaces while you are reviewing these boats?

I am a big fan, and support what you are doing here. But, I would hope an experienced broker speaking to an audience that includes people new to the sport would explain why every sailboat doesn't have a nice, quiet, gasoline powered engine. The entire industry moved toward diesel for some reason, right?

The way the MOB gear is rigged to that backstay makes me think they got a lot of use out of the buoy.

I wonder how many bow men know how to properly change headsails on an old school offshore boat?? Secret is to undo very bottom hank, and put on all the new hanks. Drop the old sail while furiously undoing the old sail hanks. Which is why the marine braid netting on lifelines was so important!! Nothing like doing that in six foot waves on the great lakes......

Ahhh jack me mate !! Thems were the good old days No body gets buried in the gulf stream changing head-sails any more Everything done from the cockpit where they stay dry. And keep the hors Douevres from sliding around and them stem ware from falling over. Hahaha

@@YachtHunters Seems the only guys doing it now are the Volvo ocean race guys. Ever see the video " another day at the office" ( I think that's correct). I've been in the marine industry 30 years now. The crazy new level of speed is amazing. I've raced on one tonners, to half tonners. A J109 makes them all look sad. Will be my 34th Chicago Mac race this season. Love the Dinty Moore bit!! My father always said if you can't stand up to take a piss and cook a Turkey in the oven it not yacht racing!!
