Moved from LR and PS about two years ago over to Capture One. I absolutely love it, so much fun. Joannie, as she said just scratched the surface of the software, it is awesome. One thing I would say, if you have used LR and PS for some years as I had then be prepared for a long learning curve. However, once you master it, you'll never look back. :)

Great input! I am currently using EOS Utility (Canon) to shoot tethered live and then import straight into LR to see/edit from there (and final adjustments in Photoshop). Can I ask why you think you'll never look back once you get used to Capture One? Don't you use LR and Photoshop at all in your editing now?

@@SusanneGeert No, not at all, I have stopped the subscription. I do though have Affinity photo, which cost me a one off fee of £25 (in a sale) which does my panos, HDR stacking etc. :)

Thanks so much. Excellent intro to Capture One. It is my go to. Readers can also know that C1 has a very robust ability to "Edit In" to use just about any other software like Affinity Photo as mentioned below. Makes the round trip quick and easy as well as retaining your original RAW files. Thanks for the video. Perfect - as usual.

Sounds interesting. I am currently using EOS Utility (Canon) to shoot tethered live and then import straight into LR to see/edit from there. Can you say a bit more about this: "C1 has a very robust ability to "Edit In" to use just about any other software like Affinity Photo as mentioned below." Not sure I understand what this means ;-)

@@SusanneGeert Sure....In Capture 1, under the Image tab, there is an option to "Edit With" which, when opened, presents a list of other editing software of your choice that you have on your computer. Using say Affinity Photo, a copy (variant) of the photo you are editing in Capture One is sent to that software where one can edit and then it will be saved back to Capture One. Hope that helps.

@@klebebrumblern7014 Ah, I get it - like "Edit in Photoshop" when you are in LR? Can you go from Capture One to Photoshop in the same way? Are you are former LR-user now C1-user? What is your experience, if I may ask?

Sooo timely! And sooooo succinctly helpful! Thanks Joanie, for bolting me off my fear of jumping into Capture One (from my beloved Lightroom). I bought a perpetual C1 license (I *loathe* the Adobe subscription model!) waaay back in November during their Black Friday sale, but... I've yet. to. open. it. - terrified of making the switch from Lr! But your video today was just the ticket I needed - your (amazingly brief, but oh so helpful) walk-through make it look like the switch won't be as painful as I thought. Thanks to you - by golly, I'm going to finally open up C1 TODAY! One question: Any tips/sites/videos on how best to import my Lr catalog into C1 - without creating utter chaos???

Awesome video 🔥 My tethered setup has the camera looking through a mirror, so I need to flip the live view feed to properly compose images. Capture One Pro has options for flipping downloaded images, but I can't find a mirror/flip image option for the live view feed (just orientation). Am I missing something, or is this option not available?

Since I got a new laptop that can actually do some editing without crashing, I have been shopping for a new editing software. Capture One is interesting I took a look at it, (I"m using Affinity Photo at the moment but no tethering) Their pricing is different subscribe monthly, annual or buy outright I saw they have dropped the price for the Sony application. One thing about Capture One if you are shooting tethered you can apply a LUT or their LUTs while you take your photos, so if you got a favorite LUT that sounds like a big time saver, LOL I don't have a favorite "look" yet. Although my email has offers for a lot other people's looks I can purchase.

Donald, since you are looking for new editing software, may I suggest GIMP? It is free and does not require a lot of power. I use it on my Raspberry Pi 4 PC.

@@AtlantaTerry My new MacBook has no problems with the newer software, although I have read that some Adobe plugins won't load on the new M1 chip Mac computers, Affinity Photo had a update all set to go and I can edit with no problem but I can't tether with it but I don't shoot in a studio so its really a non issue but I would like something like Lightroom where I can look at my photos and edit as I go. I don't want monthly payments or yearly subscriptions if I can help it, Capture One has a one time buy option and right now its 289.00 that's cheaper than Final Cut Pro. But thanks for the recommendation👍 I will take a look.

Great timing! I recently started tethering with Capture One after switching to Sony from Canon and so far it's been amazing but I'm sooooo used to Lightroom. Capture One doesn't quite fit like my LR gloves do, I know my work flow like the back of my hand with LR. BUT Capture One is flawless with tethering (sessions still confuse me though) and the live view feature is a game changer. Also the skin tone color editor is AMAZING for editing portraits (they have a great on line tutorial). So now I'm using Capture One and LR because I can't quite seem to accomplish everything I want/need to in Capture One yet though (can you sync develop settings in Capture One? Can you input metadata?). Anyway, thank you so much for this very helpful video!

Hi Joanie! I’m a big fan of yours you have inspired me to continue learning photography thank you very much for all the content you share with us. Loved your history how you started in this business 💗 I’m newly just bought a canon camera and I started editing on darktable as it’s free. Personally I prefer editing on my cellphone on snapseed is waaaay better. I got the colours and brightness I’m looking for. But I wonder if it’s ok to continue editing on snapseed? If am not using my cellphone to make the shots any longer?

Such a helpful video! I am currently using EOS Utility (with Canon) to shoot tethered live and then import straight into LR - the method you have introduced in an earlier video. I am thinking of trying Capture One out. I am quite happy with the library system and the editing in LR (and final editing in Photoshop). The reason I am considering Capture One is primarily the actual photosessions - especially with clients. I would love the feature in Capture One that makes both live view screen larger (I think?) and importing faster than with EOS Utility and LR combined where you have to wait for the images to upload. Would it make sense to use Capture One only for the photographing sessions - and then stick to LR and PS for editing? Or would this seems like double work? Joanie - do you plan on skipping LR and PS or will you still use them for editing and for the folder/Library system? Thanks a lot in advance ;-)

I gave it a a try but man, it was so confusing when you’ve used Lightroom and Adobe for a decade 😂 also... lost half my images so I was like ohhh nope 😂 But 100% agree Nikon capturing is terrible, why I want to try it as I use Nikon

Do you do much “Drinks Photography”? I’m struggling with lighting / glass and any tips would be great!
@AtlantaTerry
@AtlantaTerry 3 жыл бұрын
The secret to lighting glass is to NOT light the glass. Instead, you light the background or surfaces to the side of the glass. Then those surfaces are seen through the glass or reflected off the glass. What is seen through or reflected off the glass defines it. I believe there are some KZbin videos on the subject of lighting glass objects.

Depending on what you’re shooting drink wise. Backlighting can be really great. Gives the drink a lovely glow. (But obvs doesn’t work with everything) nice double diffused light is helpful too. But depends really what you’re struggling with :)

Hello. Congratulations for this brief but useful explanation of how to edit with Capture ONE. Now how to use DataColor SpyderCHECKR for color correction and consistency workflow food photography with Capture ONE? I'm asking this because as far I know SpyderCHECKR provides a suitable and reliable color calibration method for Lightroom, Photoshop and Phocus, but not for Capture ONE. Thanks and a hug from Portugal
