But the concept of a hero who has built themselves on the idea of the image their power gives; (protective, able to make barriers) and then the moment someone actually Sees Them is when they just crumble is so *sublime*. A little indulgent "lay down the weight" with a dash of implied casually vicious retorts and repartees, topped off with some good ol' yandare threads in there. A+ way to wind down from a long as hell day working security.

There's definitely something up with the listener having a forgotten history with the villain. They already seem to have been under the villain's spell, so to speak, even if neither of them are aware of it. Not to mention there's something peculiar about the villain's interest in them and i'm not sure what he wants their shield powers for. It's pretty tough to use an exclusively defensive power for evil. Like, healing powers can be used for torture, but depending on how the power works, there's not a ton of harm you can do with force fields aside from trapping people

Mmmmhmhmhm. I like the ides of hypnosis, this oh so easy trick the Villain loves to use to get his way, being particularly dangerous for the person he cares about. What if the more he puts them under the longer they stay under? What if in the past the two knew each other and had their memories removed because the relationship was dangerous for them both? That's why his hypnosis feels so familiar and we are so interesting to the speaker. We KNEW each other, once.
