Fascinating, thank you. The boats shown at 6:50 are the 'Shinyo' suicide boats designed to ram allied ships I spent some time living on Amami Oshima and Kikai Jima and sailed on a small boat to Tokuno Jima. The Ryukyu Islands are a very interesting part of Japan and well worth a visit.

In the 80's there were a couple on Kadena, all overgrown with brush.

There are bunkers all over Okinawa, just need to know where to look. I was stationed on Okinawa back in the early 80's, in some more rural areas there was war debris/bunkers everywhere still. I'm sure as time goes by there would be less and less naturally, but one just needs to know where to look. Naha for instance...Just mind blowing how large it has become. It was literally just a small trading village, however this was expanding already in the early 80's. Look up Sugar Loaf Hill (Kiramachiji), in the Asato District of Naha. Hugh battle during the war. The Marines went up 4 times, and the Japanese pushed them back 4 times, actually many historians said there were 11 assaults up the hill. 2,662 Marine casualties and another 1,289 battle fatigue cases. The total Japanese casualties was never determined, but one can only imagine. Today, the hill hardly exists. They City planners bulldozed the majority of it and built a water tower on top. There is a small memorial there and a pathway up. The Japanese are not real good at remembering the war, unlike the Germans.

The airfields of Okikanawa were intentionally forsaken by the Japanese army in Okinawa. Tokyo did not admit the airfields in the hands of the US. Later, the Okinawa army was forced to take them back in disastrous vain.

Motion picture films with audio track weren't widely available at the time of this recording, so movies shot by American arm forces were mostly silent, like this one.

@@Slithey7433 In one one of the museums in Okinawa they have examples of drop tanks used by locals as fishing boats, and artillery shells used as cooking vessels. Crazy stuff.
