I still want to know where/how Kvothe's father learns enough about the Chandrian to write a song that must have been accurate enough for them to kill him and his troupe. Seems suspicious to me...
@MioMyDog3 жыл бұрын
I personally believe that he did what any decent bard does - he gathered up myths and rhymes, ad any info thread he could and compiled those into a coherent narrative. As to why it was so accurate - either he was really, really good at his job or he got extremely (un)lucky.

I look at it like Kvothe's answer about the term ravel. His dad saw these variations of names and with Laurian studied the etymology of them until he had the roots and learned the true names of the Chandrian. Gives Arliden a good source as a potential namer, hence Kvothe's knack , while balances out the whole waking vs sleeping mind. We assume Laurian's a Lackless so would know all about how one name can morph into many. Kvothe can see what's in front of him better than most, but he's willing to admit there could be a similar/random explanation. Kvother is ramston steel; the alloy of his parents.

Arladen says in the first book while he was talking to Ben that he spent years gathering stories but each only had a bits and pieces of truth to them
@lah-teeda60303 жыл бұрын
it's not that he learned enough about them, it's that he learned their accurate names and repeated them during his practice. In book 2, Bast specifically gets upset when Kvothe reiterates their names in full. Kvothe reassures Bast that saying the names once isn't of consequence(notice he says Cinder's real name twice, which supports the idea that Kvothe has slain Cinder, and thus can repeat his name more than one time) , but when his father was practicing the song repeatedly, he was constantly repeating the Chandrian members' names, and the only thing that kept them from being attacked sooner is that they were in a traveling troupe. Constantly, by happenstance, moving prior to the Chandrian locating them.

makes me wonder what will be covered in book 3? Finishes Kvothe's backstory, then sets into a new story about the Chandrian? If it took Pat 20 years to write book 3, how long will it take to write the next book in series. Either a new trilogy, or book 4?

I just noticed that Abenthy could be an Amyr, since during all the years he spent with the troupe while Kvothe's dad was gathering information about Chandrian they never appeared. In fact, they didn't appear even when he sang part of the song in front of the troupe, Abenthy included. So it's quite suspicious that the Chandrian only appeared when Abenthy was not there anymore, and never attacked him even though he had also heard the song. By the way this same argument could also mean Denna could be an Amyr or at least related to them

7 Dislikes... hmm Anyways, I loved the video, and the whole non-Kvothe lightning thing actually makes a lot of sense, I never thought about it. Following that idea, I remember that Patrick's approach was to bring something different to the fantasy genre. That's why Kvothe's story is more tragic than anything else, and it would make perfect sense that the hero doesn't actually affect some events as much as he believed.

I came up with a theory about the frame story. For that, let's suppose Kvothe has indeed changed his true name (As in the end of WMF Elodin is terrified that he might have). We know that the Chronicler possesses Naming skills. We are strongly hinted that Kvothe HAS locked at least part of his true name inside the Thrice locked chest. And we know that in order to learn the true name of something/someone, you must completely know and understand that thing/person. So maybe, just maybe, the Chronicler will learn Kvothe's true name through his story, and that's why Bast needs him for. Bast doesn't want Kvothe to simply "remember who he is", he wants the Chronicler to learn Kvothe's true name, so he can change it back to who he used to be before his name-changing shenanigans. I honestly don't know if anyone else has come up with this theory before, and I really cannot properly explain what made me come up with it. So, what do you guys think about it? (btw, my english might not be so good)
@gregsquires62012 жыл бұрын
Not bad. It's possible, but of course there aren't enough solid facts given in the books to confirm or disprove. Bast didn't know it would be a namer who answered his hints, but once he found out Chronicler was a namer it could explain his demand that Chronicler remind Kvothe of his true self (but it could also be to help Kvothe to remember his true self himself).

No, Cinder's sword is specifically mentioned to reflect light and shine white. Unlike the ancient swords of the Ademre. Folly is described in terms of metal much like Caesura and the term folly is generally mentioned when speaking about Haliax/Lanre (Abenthy's inscription). If he didn't learn an old magic for forging swords the references tell us Kvothe killed Haliax. This also makes the most sense when Haliax is described as keeping the others in line by protecting them. The true tragedy is an angry well meaning man killing Satan, only to then see the world is better with the devil you know. It's Hemme's rooms again with the Cthaeh in place of Elodin, tricking Kvothe into hurting someone they hate despite the consequences.
