What can I say about the remarkable true artist who was indeed ahead of his time.. He may have suffered from writers block. Who hasn't ? But, thank God he did. He found a new art which he embraced and took off running with it and never looked back. His body of work speaks for its self. You can always tell a. Walker Evans photo.

Absolutely! Walker Evans was a true visionary, wasn't he? 🌟 It's incredible how he managed to pivot and find his passion in photography when faced with challenges like writer's block. His unique style and perspective shine through in every photograph he took. 📸 It's like his photos have a signature touch that sets them apart from the rest. 🎨🖼️ His body of work is a testament to his talent and dedication. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 😊 Have a fantastic day! 🌟

In the early 1980s, my discovery of Evans’ photographs in “Let Us Now Praise Famous Men” (and the accompanying penetrating prose of James Agee) sent me on an excursion to find Mims Hill in Hale County, AL, USA. That experience, as well as exposure to his broader work, prompted a new (to me) and profound appreciation for that style of photography. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Joel. Another Great, nicely communicated. I was one of those who came to Evans via "LUNPFM" in the late 70s. (That lead me on to Friedlander who seemed to contradict most of what I'd been taught at photo-school.) I'd not seen many of the colour shots though. I liked the link you made with Matisse. It would seem much of his Polaroid stuff is equal to his B&W. To me, Evans at his best, whispers visual engagement. Currently, the fashion is to shout. That's partly the result of us all being immersed into commercial visual culture and partly the competetive individuality of photography. Thanks Joel for reminding me of the 'Quiet Way'.

Hi there! Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment 😊. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. I agree with you about Evans' Polaroid work-it’s just as powerful as his black and white shots. And yes, his way of whispering visual engagement is truly special. In a world that often shouts, it's nice to remember the power of subtlety. I'm happy you liked the connection with Matisse too! 🎨 Have a great day and stay tuned for more content. Evans was certainly influenced in my work. As an FSA photographer I find his work exceptional. I took a photo of a room in Yellowstone lodge in 1994 with my 4x5 that would have "mirrored" his photographed method. Sorry I cannot upload my image here but Evan's work will inspire me into the future. :)
