Dude, the fact that you were able to get in the ballpark is impressive. I've spent wayyyy too much time trying to get close with vst, tape emulator, ect.. and it is just crazy difficult. There is a weird combination of really airy highs, yet super dark, but cutting like a chainsaw. There is also very little gain as you pointed out, but it just feels so powerful, like you can feel the air move in the room. I just copied the RIP tone on my channel, and hope to get as close as you did with Peace Sells, but I doubt it. Your videos freaking rock, God Bless!

You most likely know this already, but I'm thinking that not all your viewers do: the thing about "pushing the needle into the red" when recording is a thing that works wonders for creating a warm saturated sound when recording on analog sources (like tape) but it doesn't work the same way with digital recording equipment like the USB audio interfaces that most of us are using today. Since that signal is digital, as soon as you cross the threshold for going into the red, you are hard clipping the signal which creates an ugly and very sharp distortion that is much different to the soft clipping signal of analog gear. It's very likely that the lead tones on this album had the needle in the red region when recording, because they did record that album on analog tape.
