Capturing Ride The Lightning Guitar Tone - Marshall DSL & Recto 1x12 Cab

It's a really unique tone that I've never been able to put my finger on. An eq in the DSL effects loop is key for chasing these tones. Turns out the low mids are bumped and the high mids cut pretty drastically around 1k. Such an iconic album that was a pretty daring move from the thrash scene to bring in some slower ballads and epic instrumentals.
As for my new Jackson KVXMG, I love it. Was a gift from my wife and kids and sounds fantastic. I've only had it a few days so I'm still getting used to it. The pau ferro fretboards aren't as attractive as ebony but the tone is really rich feels great. The quality of the build is near perfect and the neck is really solid with the same feel as the RR. I think in time I'll swap the EMG's for Duncan jb set or similar. I think it's got the acoustic tone that will suit passives.
Thanks for tuning in again, feel free to email me with any questions at Lambchopper678@me.com Subscribe to the channel and follow on me Facebook www.facebook.c...

Oddly enough I’ve listened to more than enough Metallica LIVE recordings from 84-87 they don’t seem to replicate Ride or even Master tone very well, hell even the Garage Day’s EP(1987 release) that didn’t replicate that tone too well either. Surprisingly their Justice tone was more on par to the studio version during the 88-89 tour. I always wonder to myself why they did LIVE shows like that.

Metallica has been overthinking their tone for the past 20 years, they're thrash metal, making it sound "full" is actually a mistake IMO. It sounds very oxymoronic for me to say the sound is too full or complete ...but it is. Or maybe it's that they're later material lacks the levels of compression which are so satisfying in the older albums.

That tone is close enough that I thought it was the original at first! If it helps anyone out, from what I’ve gathered, they used a tube screamer in front of the 2203, and the speakers for RTL are G12-65s aka the ones famously used by AC/DC on Back in Black.

this is not a RRXMG ( as you wrote in your text), but an KVXMG. You are right about the new fretboards from Jackson, they look like a very try and bright rosewood, with a lot of pores in it. I do not understand why they are not coloring (ebonizing) them. When the X- Series started production in Indonesia, they sold KVXMGs with a very dark black rosewood fretboards, much darker than regular dark rosewood. A friend of mine has a black KVXMG with this black rosewood fretboard and it looks great, even darker than many ebony fretboards. But I am sure, that was additional color, no rosewood is so dark. these were sold only for a short time, after that they had regular rosewood fretboards again. But aside from the color of the fretboard, it looks very nice ! I prefer a King V to a Rhoads, also while sitting down (of course classic style) and playing. it is so easy to play the way you are also sitting.

NAILED IT !! I ve been chaising that tone on my own but i still can't get it. My Gear is a gibson flying v with emg81,tubescreamer, jcm800, 1960a.....it seems that a 6 band eq is such an important piece of the puzzle...i m gonna get one

@@THRASHMETALFUNRIFFS i'm always having a tough time deciding the best pickup. I'm currently riding that duncan jb vibe and like it. Emg's might sound tighter but i can't stand them on leads, and something lower output like jeff waters does sometimes sounds like a passive that wants to be and emg.
@THRASHMETALFUNRIFFS
@THRASHMETALFUNRIFFS 3 жыл бұрын
@@aryinc Well, I'm afraid I don't know a lot about pickups, never changed any and my guitars just have what they came with but it's kind of nice because I just keep my same pedal settings but choose the guitar or use 2 different guitars for dual tracking to get a different feel to the sound depending on the song. My RR1 Rhodes has the Seymour Duncans and is great for classic Metallica type era, they're a bit noisier and more boosted in the mids I think than my LTD with the licensed type EMG copies which have a more modern scooped tone and noiseless for hard stops, heavy chugging and drop tuned HateBreed/Hemlock type covers. I prefer the Jackson more for solo's a lead stuff but mainly for the neck and whammy bar, the few leads or solo's I did with the LTD sound great to me but the neck is broader and flatter and just harder to play leads for some reason. But even my 2 no-name guitars with 30-60 year old rusted up pole cheap pick-ups I use in my Cheap V and BASS-VI have come through fine in the songs I did with those thanks to the BOSS ME-70 pedal and post EQ in the DAW

THRASH METAL & FUN RIFFS from interviews with Flemming he did say that he got James to do some slower takes for Cliff’s benefit. Cliff had great energy and felt the moment but his precision would suffer rocking out too hard. They didn’t keep James’s slower takes, only the bass line apparently. Nobody really answered why the songs on RTL are different pitches, there were thoughts that they matched the pitch with the church bells but turns out not the case.

@@LambChopper678 WOW, very interesting, thank LambChopper! Regarding RTL, I thought it was a trim knob got bumped while the analog tapes were transferring but that may have been not from the source like Flemming?! I think it may have been more common than people realize?
