Very useful vary basic.. over the ramp transport capacity.... in reality.. has no oposed landing ie forced entry.. capacity whatsoever.. and given the incredibly small numbers.. even a 30 percent attrition would shaft further operations... I wish Australia would get a grip... for 10 percent of that daft submarine project.. they could have pushed everyone's wages up.. increased manpower by recruitment and retention and then looked at aquiring a more balanced expeditionary force plus a realistic reserve... times passing and war is coming.... would be better with thousands of volunteer reservists than pie in the sky projects that won't bear any fruit for 20 years... in 20 years the winner will be deciding what to write

Absolutely right.. they could have bought 12 modified gottland class for less than a quarter of the new sub budget.. and had all deployed within this decade maybe plus 3 years... these would have provided high lethality minimal crew units able to operate as area denial assets .. a few support units and prepositioned material woulf give full range of operation .. and ambush (area denial) within south china sea and backwards to Australia. .. ie depth of area denial... thus protecting Australia and it's allies...

To be honest these Amphibious forces lack air support , if operating as an independent force far from their main land airbases and Australia has now thought hard and long , and come to the conclusion that it is unlikely that the Canberra and Adelaide would be converted to operate the F-35b because of the significant work and money involved and the associated reduction in the ships’ amphibious potential. However the option of utilising the concept of 'cross-decking' also provides avenues for the Royal Australian Air Force and/or Royal Australian Navy to embed both support and aircrew within allied naval aviation operations to enable Australia to rapidly develop its own such capability over the course of a number of years, should the need arise for Australia to reintroduce its own fixed-wing naval aviation capabilities.or a dedicated F-35B-dedicated Canberra Class LHD , note the Australians will get up close and personal with the UK Joint strike group and will learn from that as for a cross deck from them , that would be nice if one of the LHD ships happened to be near them, note the group would visit Australia if they decide to return that way back to the UK ?

"Capable of putting boots on the ground anywhere in the world". He forget to mention that it would have to be unopposed though. If Australia is serious about this amphibious stuff they need ship to shore transports that are either amphibious fighting vehicles or in the least landing craft that offer small arms protection that can provide fire in direct support of the landing. Cool editing and dudes with rifles and LSWs aside this is geared towards zero resistance. ie basic security for an administrative movement. Those Tiger ARHs are a joke. Can they even be deployed yet? They should have just bought Apaches and been done with it. They should look at the best kit the USMC uses for amphibious assault and get that such as the new ACV that is replacing the AAV.
