Reconnaissance Operations Commander Course

Ever wonder what it’s like being a qualified Infantry Reconnaissance Operations Commander (ROC)? This should give you a pretty good idea. One thing is for sure. It’s not for the faint of heart. To succeed on the ROC Course at the Infantry School in Gagetown, New Brunswick, you need to be highly motivated, in excellent physical shape, and you need to be a team player. No one makes it through alone.
The candidates on the course are already trained and qualified in basic Reconnaissance Patroller (RP). On this course the Non-Commissioned Members learn to command a Reconnaissance Section, and the Officers acquire the skills necessary to command a Reconnaissance Platoon.
The course, which runs annually, is also open to international candidates from Allied Forces. The course has recently accepted members of the Latvian, Irish, and Australian Armed Forces which benefits training to all involved. Working with our allies in this capacity develops our interoperability, making sure that we work effectively together and maintain our readiness posture.

I did a survival, map and compass rope bridge and mountaineering course put on by CFB Gagetown in 1971 as a venturer for queen venture award. Lost 15 lbs in 12 days. I was the youngest at 14 on the course. Great memories

You need to be in the military, do time in an infantry role, attend basic recon course do furthur time as a recon patrolman. Usually at this point you'd hit the 3-4 year mark in your career and you'd have to complete promotion courses along the way before getting looked at for it.

My hat is off to the men in this course.....they are truly remarkable people. That female has no place in a unit like that....even if she can physically pass the requirements. Men & women bond differently, one is not better than the other... it's just different. I was in the infantry 28 years ago and had 4 women in my platoon. They were wonderful people and I loved them dearly, but they were terrible infanteers. And they disrupted the cohesiveness. Can you imagine what what happen to them if they were ever captured....the unspeakable things the enemy would do to them.....but there you go...DEI.
