Capturing Trojans

Uniform disk of particles gets dispersed by a large planet. Only some orbits remain stable over long time period - orbits close to the star, distant orbits further away from the planet, and Trojan asteroids orbiting the Lagrange points L4 and L5.
The simulation shows about 150 years.

Wow that's nice, really cool to see that the Trojan asteroids accumulate so fast. It could be nice to add orbital resonances to see at what point inward and outward the orbits of the massless bodies are stable again ! Also I wonder if the outer part of the inner belt that forms roughtly correspond to the outer part of the asteroid belt in our real world.

So, in a sense, the Trojans and Greeks are actually Jupiter's satellites, just orbiting in a widely different manner.

You could call them tenuous moons.

The lagrange point accumulation is also cool

very fascinating! i presume those two clusters that get stuck are lagrange points

Yes, those are particles orbiting Lagrange points L4 and L5.

Interesting how successful it was at "clearing the neighborhood" in only a century.

Fascinating how a clear region emerges first on one side and then the other. What happens if you slowly increase the mass of the planet? It would be interesting if you could go back to beginning of the simulation and leave the ones that wind up in the Trojans a different color so we can see how they are corralled into there

You can try it, the link for the app is in the description.

Hey! Is there any way that you can also make an open sph physics game? Like it’s 2 dimensional so that there srent as many particles and there is only like 1000 particles so it can be ran in real time and there are tools to make planets like you drag from your click point to determine the size and you can set a grid to make specific sizes etc. Also you can drag highlight to select a bunch of particles and you can throw them my flinging your mouse. You can also use many different materials to simulate layers and the core.

Mainly for clear video. If they were all one-pixel dots, youtube compression would absolutely destroy the quality.
