After watching it again, I can now see what happened. The turning driver started to make the turn, but a pedestrian was crossing so they slammed on their brakes causing the other car to hit them
@miles560011 ай бұрын
This is why pedestrians need their own protected phase, separating the pedestrian signal from the thru traffic signal.
@thisisnotpublic65697 ай бұрын
Not only that, but the Nissan driver was clearly trying to go fast through the intersection after it went red - you can see the green light in the adjacent road. Totally their fault, trying to speed up and not paying attention/taking into consideration that the other driver could brake.

At least that first guy apologized, some people do that and either weren’t paying attention or didn’t care. The worst is when they try to argue when they’re wrong.

I went to toronto once. My second day there someone rolled into the back of my car at a light.... we had been sitting there for at least 30 seconds already. My car had no damange but he busted the grill on his bmw. He didnt want to exchange info, i said it was cool because his car was damaged. Not mine lol. Worst city ive ever driven in.

Other than careful driving, that left turn collision would have been easily prevented if fully protected left turn traffic signals were used at this intersection (the type of left turn signals used along Spadina Ave).

The Nissan tried to make the light and should’ve yielded to the yellow to let the other car clear the intersection.

What happened was that freaking pedestrian crossing when the light was flashing making the black car unable to complete the turn. The Nissan was rushing through the yellow light and didn't realize the black car made a sudden stop. Traffic jam and road rage sometimes caused by the pedestrian. Police needs to ticket the pedestrian for jay-walking.

The person turning was at fault... so its funny how they're happy you caught a car accident they caused on camera lol
@TwistyTrav3 ай бұрын
@thelittlemuffet Doesn't matter. The Highway Traffic Act is very clear in situations where a left turning car is involved in an accident. The car going straight could full-on run a red light, and the left turning car would still be at fault, according to the rules.

@stephcurry235011 ай бұрын
The lady in green (going straight) is not at fault. The one taking left turn on green/yellow is at fault. They also did not wait for the pedestrian to cross before attempting the left turn.
@TwistyTrav11 ай бұрын
@@stephcurry2350 I agree. Even if the person going straight was running a red light (the light was still green, in this case), the person turning left would still be at fault. It doesn't matter what happens within the intersection because the driver turning left must not enter until its safe & clear to completely perform the turn.
