Bargains! Yes, that Picnic sampler is definitely one of the best of that turn of the 70s era. Love Dave Dee etc. That’s a great story about him if true. Nearly fell off my seat when I saw that Fairfield parlour album. Kaleidoscope are my favourite English psych band. Take care, John.

Hi John. I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that I didn’t know what the Fairfield Parlour album was. I bought it because it looked interesting. I didn’t even notice the Vertigo label on the top corner of the sleeve. Amateur. 😀

These are fantastic scores. I have that Dale Hawkins and it is indeed great. Great songwriting and funkiness to it. The Fairfield Parlour blew me away. Love that lp. I have a German pressing but not found cheap. This is why you hunt. Very nice

Hi Dom. I certainly had my share of luck when I found the Fairfield Parlour and Dale Hawkins records. The DH is the pick of the bunch for me. It has a real country funk thing going on, and is quite Lee Hazlewood in places. Cheers

Hi George. I definitely struck lucky with the Gun and Fairfield Parlour records. Beats the piles of James Last records that I normally see at a car boot 👍. Cheers. John

I thought you might like Dale Hawkins version of Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town. It's a bit unhindged. That Grassroots tune is much better than the songs on the 1972 album I have of theirs. They shoulda stuck to the pop psych, rather than going all rural.

Hi John. A good comp is hard to pass up. I dig the sounds coming from D. Hawkins record. Being from Los Angeles Traffic means something dreadful lol. I could live with the Traffic you picked up. What a great story about Dave Dee! I never knew that. Gun rocks very psych blues rock. What Andy said about the Fairfield Parlour album and a beautiful OG inner sleeve to boot! Money well spent. Do you know about The Liverpool Set? Cheers Steve

Hi Steve. No, I don’t know about The Liverpool Set? Psych isn’t normally my thing - I tend to pick up soul and reggae - but every now and again something grabs me. The Dale Hawkins record is excellent. Cheers. John

Torn between trying to out-early local dealers and playing the long game and running a more educated eye over the left-overs; like you, I've found some great stuff over the years including a cardboard tube from roll of carpet blind-buy, chock full o' goodies including Sabbath 45 on Vertigo swirl ! Thanks for showings - Paul

Hi Paul. Car boots are really hit and miss but I like the buzz of maybe finding something interesting. I lucked out this week. Makes up for the numerous weekends when I have come away empty handed. Records in a roll of carpet? That’s my kinda digging 👍. Cheers. John

Right place right time John. It's always exciting to be first to dig through a box of records and they looked really clean. Some great finds there, the Dale Hawkins looks interesting. Always nice to find a swirl too, even if the music they offer can be a bit patchy I find. No vinyl for me last weekend but three contacts, the first of which I'm checking out tomorrow. Cheers Dale

Hi Dale. Yep, definitely right place right time. That’s the fun of car boots. You never know what you might come across. You’ve done well to get a few contacts. I need to try to do that more. Fingers crossed there’s something there for you tomorrow. I was wondering if you fancied having a pub chat with me and Hed? I reckon it’d be fun to chat about the ups and downs of collecting, as well as picking a few tunes. Just give me a shout if you fancy it at any time. I reckon it’d be good fun 👍

That was quite a good haul. I had all the Mamas and Papas. That was one I purged. The Grass Roots were played a-lot on US radio in the 60’s. That vertical swirl is a great find.

Top finds mate, particularly Fairfield Parlour....love that record. I paid £249 more than your price 😂. Lovely looking copy of Gun as well. Dale Hawkins has been on my wants for awhile, just that that one would have made my day. I wish I could muster the enthusiasm for carboots again but I speak to loads of local guys who do them religiously and it's slim pickings. PS I'll take that Pussy Plays off your hands if you ever want to shift it on 😁. Cheers Nige

Hi Nige. Yeah, car boots are usually slim pickings but every now and again something nice turns up. Not sure it’s worth all of the early mornings though. Must be a glutton for punishment… The Fairfield Parlour was obviously a really nice find but, to be honest, o didn’t know what it was. I just picked it up because it looked interesting. I think most people would have done the same. Cheers. John

Hi John. I do love how you do your needle drops with photos and d the music in the background. My phone doesn’t let me do that, someday I should get an editing program. I have that Gun album but it has been a long time since I played it. Fairfield Parlour and an interesting sound, very 60s. No funk or soul this week, that saved me some money

I'd like to hear (or see) a noodle drop apparently they are all the rage. That's quite a story but not sure I'd trust a policeman. I don't think I hardly have any vertigo swirls maybe few Status Quo if they count 😅 I just don't do car boots maybe too competitive for me and too early. Whatever wherever we find records it's all about the timing. Well mostly. There is an art to picking up stuff that lots have flicked past and seeing the financial or intrinsic value.

Hi Martin. I don’t mind going out to car boots at the crack of dawn because it gives me a few hours to myself. As soon as I get home, I’m doing family stuff, so the car boot is time for me to spend looking for records with no distractions. I usually come home empty handed but this week was a bonus. Cheers
