Hi. I live in Calgary, and im looking to turn my 2008 Ford Focus into a car camper. I love how you call your Car the CarV. So clever. Thank you for posting this video..its going to be so helpful. Im so glad i found a fellow Calgarian/Canadian.

That's awesome - Yay another person from Calgary! Hope the build goes well for the Focus, they are pretty reliable and if it's a hatchback then I bet it has good room too! Hope to see you out there sometime!

The Corolla I had was small compared to newer ones. I unbolted the passenger seat and removed it indoors and the backseat cushion. Then got a board to fit from the glovebox to the backseat. I padded it with the cushions from my sofa. I made reflectix shade covers for the windows. Depending on your car you might attach 2 legs with 2x2's cut to size to get a comfortable level. I drove across the country and was gone 6 week, but on the road for 3 weeks. When I got home I had driven 6700 miles solo. What I didn't plan for was not having radio and cell reception in the open-space areas. somedays for 7-8 hours, but hey the scenery was great.

Sounds like you had a good adventure along the way though - I've thought about taking out the front seat too, but I often go out fishing and it's good to have it open for a passenger. Might explore that for a longer trip though!

@@novembersneverending I found finding a place to park every night was extremely stressful. Some cities I drove around for 20 miles before I thought I had a good place to sleep. Twice I parked near peoples homes and the next day I heard them outside my car threatening to call the police. Apparently, because I was peacefully sleeping and not bothering anyone. Right. I always tried to find a quiet place where road noise and people wouldn't bother me. Doing that caused me to be in places that are isolating. I worried I could be more easily targeted for crime or cops to give the knock. If your the kind of person that can sleep through any noise. It will be easier to find a safe sleeping spot.

The tent is what makes the car V work. It’s a strategy; it’s not cheating. ✌🏻

Love the Rockies. though many years since I backpacked my way around Canada. I did two four week trips in my Carolla sedan least year, one up through central New South Wales, as far as the Queensland border, then back along the East coast of Australia and the second up through Central Australia. Camped at Uluru for a week and had a brilliant time exploring there. It even rained on the rock, so rare in the desert. Added 11,000 kms to the clock. Both trips were epic and the Carolla did not miss a beat. Happy camping and fishing!

Thanks for the comment! That sounds like you’ve had some good trips! I’m hoping to make it either down to the states or up to the Yukon next!

After the vacation when you go back to daily life, do you put your backseats back? Is it easy to put back?
@oliverking75
@oliverking75 Жыл бұрын
Yeah super easy, it is only about 5 bolts, so once you take out the platform, it's just a matter of reattaching the seats. Takes me about 15 minutes or so.

It could be depending on what you're able to tolerate - would be a good idea to have a tent with you for extra space when stopped. You may also need some insulation for colder climates, I'm in Canada so the winter would be tough.
